All three gaelic languages are VERY consistent. They just don't use values that English speakers are used to. Complaining about it is like complaining about Pinyin spellings. Comes complete with baggage relating to the cultural genocide of the Irish by the English too. Irish and Scottish Gaelic have been derided and mocked and surpressed for years. To the point where both are on the brink of death.

Joking about their spelling is exceptionally iffy as a result.

The sad thing is that like...all things considered, Anna Mae isn't inherently that bad a name. A bit unfortunate given the sound, and definitely more Stereotypically Southern than I'd ever go for, but I mean...Anna is my chosen IRL name, and Mae is a nice name too. But these people DELIBERATELY picked the name because it sounds like anime, which is just kind of cruel.

My mom has a student named Riley Ridley. Which. I mean. Yes, it sounds kind of cool, but for the love of God, why would you give your child a first name that is literally his last name minus one letter?

And two names I just heard on tv that I actually think are quite pretty, but definitely scream "I am a prairie schoolteacher who wears a lot of gingham": Zella May and Marnette.

Not entirely relevant to the thread but I have to share it: There's a local church whose priest is named--and this is her full given name and completely legit--Mary Blessing. Would be even funnier if she were Catholic (I think it's an Episcopal church), but still pretty great.
