...also I just realized that the team from the last page, the D-list SJW college activists - they're called the Bombshells, and that is almost CERTAINLY a dig at DC Comics Bombshells, ie 'Marguerite Bennett's LGBT Lady Wish-Fulfillment Extravaganza, Now Featuring 200% More Monologues Against Fascists.' I think it's probably a fakeout, but at this point Nick Spencer's just reveling in the controversy because he thinks outrage gets him more cash.

 

Even if it's not my goodwill is dead.

 

Honestly at this point there's been so many mobius double retcons that it is VERY difficult to tell what the hell is happening. At this point I'd kind of like to burn down all of Marvel's recent stuff also (Squirrel Girl and Ms Marvel may be spared the flames, though. they're still good.)

I'm heartened, at least, by the fact that (apart from the actual self-proclaimed nazis) literally no one is onboard for this. At least one shop has gone "nah, fuck this, we're not only not doing it but we're not even going to hand-sell Marvel stuff any more" (meaning, if I understand right, that the only way Marvel's comics and possibly merch is getting sold is if people specifically order it. Which is a stumbling block for any new titles, because part of what those hope for is that someone will see it sitting there and go "hey, that looks neat").

 

So Hydra Steve is worthy of the hammer and the wording on the leaked image is "They were worthy".

 

Considering the Nazis were obsessed with Norse imagery and real-life neo-Nazis use Thor's hammer as a symbol for themselves, my opinion is starting to go from "Nick Spencer is tone-deaf, tasteless, doesn't quite get that Nazis aren't just a member of the horror-movie-monster suite, and has boxed himself off in his little cis white straight goyim dude corner where anyone telling him the thing isn't okay is 'too sensitive'" to "Nick Spencer might actually legit be a neo-Nazi."

 

That's fucking fine. Marvel obviously don't need my queer fucking money, the assholes. I'm going to give it to Blizzard instead because just fuck Marvel right now for real.

I'm so pissed that my 20 odd years of loyalty to diverse titles are now being blamed for their falling sales when this Nazi apologist crap is being promoted. God I hate this.

 

If anyone's got the time/energy, it might be a good idea to write a form letter people can send to Marvel and Disney saying they're former fans who are now boycotting Marvel over this (and/or donating to the Holocaust Museum or some other relevant charity) and post it to Tumblr so it's easier for people to make it clear exactly what they're mad about and that it'll hurt Marvel financially.
