I have to wear a hat for work now and I gotta say it makes the jägers even more relatable
This is my hat, it may look like nothing special but it is mine and I kind of don't want to take it off ever

The stuff we're finding out about the Storm King is fascinating. He didn't really die at all, apparently? Just...turned into a shambling green-tinted corpse, apparently. (The Master of Paris calls him a revenant - it's entirely possible that he is, and that his focus is finding what's-her-name, the lost Heterodyne woman he married. He's certainly fixated enough on it.)

Not surprised that the Sun Lady is Zola, but I think a lot of people here had called that. I did notice Agatha's necklace, though - that looks...rather more elaborate than the choker she was wearing for the locket earlier. And yet, I don't think any of her entourage would let Lucrezia out to play, especially right now. And the Foglios usually aren't careless about details like that, so what's going on there? Is Agatha just wearing another necklace over top? Did she somehow bling the choker?

    Screeching about the latest updates.
Oh my god, the bastard pulled Jenka's fangs?! And...apparently had an affair with her! Which feels like it's probably related to the fang-pulling. (And boy, Jenka's pissed about it. I don't blame her. It certainly explains why she doesn't have sharp teeth like Mama, though...) I suspect Martellus isn't going to find the going as easy now, electric-possibly-magic sword or no.

I suspect that Agatha is about to get involved, assuming we don't cut to Somewhere Else Entirely, and I think shit's going to go down once that happens. Because what can she do, that doesn't involve the humming and being Visibly Sparky? What can she do that would be useful right now? I sort of suspect that the Storm King is going to assume that Agatha is the Lost Heterodyne Lady, on grounds of "fuck, there's only so many", and shit's gonna get realer after that.

honestly, i want tarvek to grab the sword and show martellus how it's done.
because this business right now is giving martellus legitimacy in the eyes of the people and that's the last thing i want.
conspicuously, we only ever see him with a sword once, and that was a wooden one...

and i hope agatha is tinkering on the sidelines.
(crack theory: the storm king had many descendants. one of the descendants married into house heterodyne, and agatha is, bloodlinewise, a legitimate heir to the sword.)

...heck, that might not even be a crack theory, considering that Storm King did marry her and presumably consummated the marriage. There's room for plausibility, at least, and considering that the Heterodynes tended to ride out and come home with brides from wherever, there's room for Agatha having more claim than Tarvek or Martellus do.

I'm about two years behind on reading GG, but I really love this comic and am glad to see there's a thread for it.

    omg
they're like the least inbred house in whole europe aren't they
because they keep bringing in new genes from other places

is that the reason the heterodyne spark is so ridiculously strong

    ETA:
I think the novels say that she disappeared shortly before the official wedding?
And Andronicus keeps referring to her as "my bride", not as "my wife". They might've shacked up before the wedding, though.

And then there's the business of where and when she'd disappeared to. It's highly likely that there's no Heterodyne descended from Euphrosynia at all at the moment.
    Wonder if she'll show up...

Also, @Briar -waves- have fun catching up, there are a lot of shenanigans up ahead ::D

It honestly might be! Especially if, like, the spark is a trait that relies on half a dozen other genes in order to fully express itself. And some of those genes are probably recessive, too, and might be co-linked with - oh, just at a guess, probably mental instability or aggression, both of which are likely to be traits that aren't really considered good traits to pass on. Except in the Heterodyne family, where aggression is considered to be a good thing, and mental instability is considered a charming quirk.

...for bonus points, I bet some of the traits the Spark relies on in order to fully express require the mom to either be a Spark herself or to have the recessive genes for it. (Of course, while Tarvek's father certainly made it very difficult for female Sparks to survive long enough to think about having kids, that can't be the sole reason why the Heterodyne Spark is significantly stronger than every other house; it's too recent a phenomenon to be even partially responsible.)

...hm. I wonder if having kids with minion-type folks has any effect, too? I mean, the Heterodynes seem the most likely to go "hey, we're both consenting adults and we're into it", while the other houses seem likely to consider it 'icky'. (And I wouldn't be surprised if there is a lot of ethics discussions around whether or not it's a good idea to have a romantic relationship with your minions.)

If Euphrosynia did vanish shortly before the wedding, that'd explain things, though - I have to admit, I have yet to read the novels. (I don't own them, but they're on my Amazon wishlist. One day...)
It does seem unlikely, in that case, that there's anyone in the Heterodyne family who's a direct descendant of Euphrosynia, you're right. And I wouldn't be surprised if she did show up at some point later on; we do know that Agatha's going to be doing some scrying through time at some point (but we don't know when, relative to the current time-frame), and I wouldn't be surprised if Tarvek or someone else wants to look way back and figure out wtf happened with Euphrosynia.

(Crack theory: Agatha actually is Euphrosynia, de-aged as a result of Whatever The Hell Happened and found/rescued by Bill. The Castle's blood test likely puts paid to the theory, though; I suspect that if anyone's going to recognize a specific genetic signature, it's going to be the chapel's tests.)[/quote]

spark/minion romances are probably that society's brand of supernatural romance bodice rippers. Novels, operas, traveling shows...
I wonder how female sparks were regarded society-wise before the disappearance of the younger ones. We know Agatha was at university and that's not a thing of notice by itself, the smoke knights are equal opportunity employers...
Now young female sparks might get in trouble because "it's not a girl thing" but I hope they can grow up to point at Agatha Heterodyne and go "nu uh she's a spark". On the other hand it might be seen as a Heterodyne quirk, because the Heterodynes don't stick to the rules.

I see your Agatha = Euphrosynia crack theory and raise you Euphrosynia = Muse of Time (=? The Other). She got caught up in a thing of Van Rijns, and now haunts him because she's pissed at him.
If she's also The Other, maybe she married into the Mongfish family (or founded it?) and her Other-ness was inherited by Lucrezia.

You can buy them in novelty stores in paris.
Looks like the master has the blueprints and just aimed one at Andronicus.
Clever, gotta say. Guessing that the new Storm King needs to reforge the blade for legitimacy.

Good thing that it's aimed, too, no one wants an unshackled Lucrezia out and about in Paris.
(Oh man. Can you imagine. Lucrezia without the weasel. Tweedle doing the touch-of-the-king thing. Lucrezia royally flipping out and putting her spark to something actually useful and negating the effect because that upstart dares?!

Probably an unpopular opinion (based on what I've seen of fandom): I LOVED Martellus since the first time we saw him drop his public face and act like his actual, horribly wicked self, and I am an elemental of sheer delight right now. You faking asshole, I can't believe you're getting away with acting so heroic. I can't believe it's going so fucking well for you. I can't BELIEVE you look so good in public when we KNOW you're the malignant abusive crapsack you are. You awful, brute genius.

    Continue the Martellus please.

I love Martellus as a character, but as a person I want to punch him in the face. I love his banter with Agatha and Tarvek.

Part of why he's getting away with it, I suspect, is because he's not acting; he's doing stuff that's genuinely heroic. And he does care about the people who fight beside him. Doesn't make him not a malignant abusive crapsack, though. Just a more complex one.

Hi, I'm a long time fan of Phil and Kaja's work. I started with "What's New with Phil & Dixie" in Dragon magazine. I even have a full set of the "XXXenophile" trading card game. I have been following "Girl Genius" for years now, I'm glad to see that there is a thread for it!

Now I'm gonna brag a tiny little bit: I just got my very first "Girl Genius" T-Shirt today! It's the one with Agatha looking into a telescope and the legend"Science" at the top. I is poor, so I got the 50% off one, but it's still great!

I am both understanding of and mildly disappointed in Oggie giving Tweedle props for being good enough to be king on basis of "you are willing and capable of doing the hard work of mercy-killing your own men". Also oh geeze, the whole of Paris is dark now? Except for that one spot where Tweedle is...

...the Master of Paris did say he ran the city. And traitor-minion went "the method of death is important", and we just learned that the Master used his body to run a lot of the city. How much of the city working depended on him not being dead?! (Also, gonna bet that traitor-minion just shorted out the whole city on...probably Lu's orders, although which Lu is hard to say. I doubt Martellus would've ordered it done nor any of the rest of his family - they get more out of Paris being a reliable stronghold, after all. Zola's there but she probably also got more from Paris being one of the safe places than from crashing it. Lu/The Other pretty reliably wants to burn the world, though.)

Well, it's been a while. We're finally in England, though!

"This is no catastrophe!" No, this appears to be Victorian!Rapture. To give them credit, though, he did just say that the island is continuing to sink because they don't actually know what the heck the Spark who started it actually even did - all they're managing is stop-gaps and adapting. And even if there's anyone who thinks it would be better to give up and try to start moving back to the surface, it's not like the queen is going to let them because that'd be quitting.

agatha's old troupe, the heterodyne show.
agatha is in england, so i hope they meet.

this is also the reason i believe tarvek ultimately makes it to england.

because remember who mistrusted tarvek a great deal and has no reason to believe he means agatha no harm?

    yeah.

this is going to be hilarious.

    AAA!!

Gil and Tarvek are in the same room!! or!! area of the sky I guess!!

I love it when they're in the same room!! Good things always happen!!

The best thing about GG is that you wait realtime years for characters to meet up again/colliding trains to smack into each other and then they do!!
