Hey, can anyone explain to me what the great thing is about Vriska<>Terezi in the retcon timeline? Not even trying to be disingenuous here. It just never clicked because (to me) it seems like an unbalanced relationship, with Terezi still very depressed and saying Vriska doesn't need her as much as she needs Vriska, and Vriska... still being pretty terrible to most people. But everywhere I go on tumblr people are praising it as some transcendent, beautiful relationship that was perfect for them both and massively moving and everything, and I feel like I'm missing something. So just... can anyone, honestly, tell me what the appeal is? I'd rather be happy with it than frustrated, but I'm having the hardest time wrapping my head around it.
It IS a terrible, unbalanced relationship, and I think most of the people praising it as great are just happy to have another canon girl/girl ship and kind of... glossing over the more unsavory details.
no, i think your interpretation is pretty much right! fluffy vrisrezi squicks me the hell out, 'cause i feel like vriska might not have been the only way to have them win the game, but terezi (understandably) wanted to relieve her own guilt so she found some way to do that and win the game. two birds one stone result being vriska browbeat everyone on the meteor and pickpickpicked at whatever weaknesses she could find for three years--it kept them ~whipped into shape~ enough to function during the game but ultimately didn't help anyone's existing issues i don't think, least of all terezi
(That said, I will happily ship GO Terezi and Vriska (Vriska) because they're both at a point where they can recognize the shit that's going wrong and fucking them up, work on that together, and help each other. But canon end game vrisrezi is in a pretty god damn awful state).
One of the things that especially frustrates me about it is that, I actually liked the idea of Terezi/Vriska before! Still do, in some circumstances, and I've read good fic following from it. But then we got to this in canon and I had to frown because it's nothing like what I wanted. (I really can't get over how verbally cruel Vriska is to so many people, and it seems like Terezi just kind of rolls over and lets her do whatever.)
I really, really want to write the Dark Vriska◇Terezi where Vriska not only stomped on everyone's weak points and browbeat them to keep them under her thum8, but also sneakily manipulated everyone's minds so that Terezi would continue to be compelled to search for her years after the fact. Someday. But yeah, most of the art I see floating around Tumblr is fluffy soft Vrisrezi, and apart from the dead pre retcon versions, I have very little idea where it's coming from
yeah, like i can theoretically see how a flushed or pale vrisrezi might work in fanworks (or with GO terezi & vriska (vriska)), but the canon end game vrisrezi is a pretty terrible/nonfunctional moirallegiance. mostly i like vrisrezi as <3<
Yeah I like Vriska and terezi when they're both sharp-edged girls who give as good as they get to each other, and right now it's just... Vriska is mean, insists she's the one doing all the best things, then terezi rolls over and believes her. Not the same thing at all.
I was always fond of a red/black flip for them, personally. I could even see pale being a really good and interesting take on their issues, just... not like this. I would seriously love a fic like that. Dark fandom show me the implications of this lack of balance.
oh dear god yeah i really really don't like people insisting that canon vrisrezi would be healthy? look just let canon vriska either die heroically or undergo major character development
Aaaahhhhh I am the resident Serket fanboy and I gotta say I have not been satisfied with Vriska's relationships in canon. To me, Vriska is ultimately a very fucked up girl with good intentions. I want her to realize how she's fucked things up, and work her ass off (stubbornly, slowly) to fix it. I want her to make amends with Terezi and Tavros and Aradia, not just have the cycle of violence keep going. (Vriska) Vriska's relationship with Meenah never sat well with me, they were supposed to be out fighting Lord English and being badass, not having Vriska fangirl over Meenah and run from her problems. As for Vriska <> Terezi, while I do want them to get along, I don't really get how they're supposed to get there from where they were. I'm not sure if forced is the right word, but why is Terezi, and only Terezi, desperately searching the furthest ring for Vriska? Not to mention, as much as I love Vriska, her being able to fix (or "fix") all the problems on the meteor feels forced and rushed as hell. I barely see WHY she would intervene on some of the problems that occurred, much less how she would solve them. Vriska is great, but the ending arc was not great for her or for Terezi.
I probably shouldn't even jump back into this but yeah my opinion of that part of the ending has... only strengthened with time. We had so many good characters who basically were set up with cosmic prophecies about how they would do great things and like Sorry, you only get Vriska, who will be visibly throwing a tantrum for pages and pages now, right before she gets to Hero, for no reason that makes narrative sense. Karkat who? Descendant of the Sufferer who? Come to think of it why did we bother with those pages and pages about how Feferi should be ascending the throne? What's a 'Sollux' and why do you think he'd be doing anything important any time soon? Important character in a fridge, what ever do you mean? And what's this babbling about 'Dave' and 'Roxy' and 'Dirk' and 'Jade' everyone was in a fight scene Vriska planned, you saw them, what are you upset about? And I still feel more shafted by the disappearance of Terezi's character than by anything else in the last year or two of Homestuck. Come back. Please.
call me cynical but i get the impression that people like canon vriska<>terezi because it makes them feel better about treating their own partners the way vriska treats terezi
I do know there are some people who are just straight up in it for "yay, another canon girl ship!" but.... lord, I want to say "no, I don't think it's all THAT bad, "but then tumblr. I quietly dispair
