according to the canon quotes on the undertale wiki at least, he is eerily accurate until he's killed you twelve times - at which he just gives up on counting and just says the same line over and over again

Another person that's almost never talked about in terms of the resets is Asgore, who'll nod sadly if you tell him he's killed you before and isn't surprised to hear it. I didn't even know about that interaction until I went digging into the Undertale wiki for other reasons, but UT fandom (or at least the section I've seen) isn't super interested in Asgore in general.

Yeah, I think Sans, Asgore and (obvs) Flowey/Asriel might be the only ones who explicitly seem aware of/unsurprised by resets, but hm something that isn't talked about a lot is we also we get the implication that ALL characters are vaguely aware of them (there's a lot of 'you look familiar / when i meet the children i always feel like i've met them before / etc' lines.

Real, real tired of people claiming their headcanons are canon things, especially when there's not even circumstantial backup to suggest the idea. Especially for works I'm invested in, because it pings my someone-is-wrong-on-the-internet pet peeve radar. Listen. Listen. You are making things up. Headcanon can certainly be fun and all, but stop treating it like it's automatically right and everyone else is wrong.

Ohhh, coding. Consistently one of my least favorite things. As always, folks, this is giant robots. And frustrated, because I've enjoyed this artist's work and now I'm just... disappointed.

    coded lesbian.png

Okay, so for the one, apart from this post.... there's been this weird feeling, not so strong I can call it an actual push, but a feeling in the fandom like since oh, they're introducing women now? all these women are lesbians they only like other women I'm sorry those are the rules~ I can understand a little, because while every established flushrom couple we've seen is m/m or f/f, there were two het pairings of new couples from these new places falling in love, and no new same-sex couples. But also, this is a very large comic with high levels of gay, I'm willing to give them credit for not intending to do the thing.

Anyways, that screenshot. Two of the major new characters introduced were a lady (Windblade) and her lady friend who is also her bodyguard (Chromia). And people liked that ship a lot. I like that ship a lot! I like other ships more because I'm more interested by new people getting to know each other than old yep we are in love that sure is the comfortable resting state of matters. And there has also been a leetle bit of ship tease between Chromia and a guy (Ironhide), probably because they were an item back in the eighties and this is not even remotely new news.

I like the ship, I get people not liking the ship. But then wow does it ruffle my feathers like nothing else to see assertions like this getting tossed around. Chromia is coded stone butch? What?? Why?

    [IMG] [IMG]

    She is a robot

Apart from helmet=short hair=stone butch, the only other connection I can make is that she's got a stockier build than Windblade (though nothing compared to loads of the guys) and that she... has an axe? She fights? She's...... assertive???? If you turned me into a robot and took away my clothing, makeup, and hair, I'm approximately as stone butch as Chromia (i am most definitely not stone butch). I'd even practically look like this if I was a giant robot. I'm solid, I'm strong, I'm naturally muscular, I sure do like weapons and violence. I guess those trivial descriptors outweigh every other aspect of my life.

Like, it's so irritating. Because if someone came up to me and way like eyyyyyyy stone butch chromia?? I'd be so excited about that! But now it's gross of me to ship her with men, so.... nope. Thanks for poisoning that headcanon for me! Also it looks like you've also made Strika a stone femme now, good job

    (I love her)

God do I talk forever, I'm sorry. The bit about shipping her with an old man is dumb. These are immortal robots. We have a canon couple with at least a six million year age difference. And this artist ships cygate, so that's some nice hypocrisy. Ironhide is old, but he's more tired than anything and because of [complicated plot] he's having trouble seeing what the point of existence is anymore (and all his friends left the planet). She's done some Shit trying to get Windblade to agree to leave the planet because she wants Windblade to be home and safe. Also they're both fighter police types. Wow, it's almost like I'd enjoy seeing these two people with very similar backgrounds get each other energized and invested in life again. But nope, this is the convenient time to remember that immortal space robots sometimes are older than each other. It's a step short of calling it Literal Pedophilia, but it's getting uncomfortably close.

eta: chromia's helmet is victory roll coded now, sorry sweatie, i calls it as i sees it uwu

coding arguments... well, sometimes they make a modicum of sense (like garnet from su being coded black, or (afaik) spock being coded jewish?) buuuut a lot of times it's stuff like. that. where people are like "X is coded butch lesbian so shipping her with a dude is rly homophobic!!!" and i just want to roll my eyes back into my skull

Steven Universe is the fandom with max discourse density (ironic since the source material is prob the opposite of Problematic)

i don't even have to be looking for steven universe to get Discourse spoiled on it

I have a policy of unfollowing anyone who puts SU discourse on my dash. Usually I re-follow them a week or two later, but my dash is under quarantine, dammit.

In my experience, the less problematic the source material is, the nastier the discourse. If the canon is full of problematic stuff, no one in the fandom can fool themselves into thinking that their tastes are Pure and perfectly moral. I have yet to encounter a single anti in the Red vs. Blue fandom.

@adisagestar I'd say I mostly agree with that, but on the other hand I've seen meta posts crying about how Eric Cartman did nothing wrong on my dash. What you said seems true as a general rule though.

Yeah, I've seen a couple of "so-and-so against sebaciel" or "anti-ereri so-and-so," but that's the closest I've ever seen. I don't know enough about Dangan Ronpa to know if I'd recognize ship names from that, but I'd think given its megapopularity not long before the current anti craze started I should have, and yet. Dead silence.

You're certainly never going to see, like, Game of Thrones antis, because everyone would just laugh at them.

And here we see the magic of sampling bias, I guess.
(I've seen Discourse(TM) for both, but not the "if you ship this you're gross lol" attack brigades or "anti[ship][character]" URLs.)

It would be pretty funny if there was a Jaime-Against-Incest blog, or a Cersei-Against-Incest blog too. Idk, for irony points. I'd say ASOIAF fandom doesn't tend to have anti character URLs or ship attack brigades (tho I have seen people say things like 'if you like Cersei there's something wrong inside of you' and 'if you don't like Cersei as much as Jaime you're sexist' etc, but that's more lowkey). Then again I don't see much of that for live action in general?

On the other hand... Dangan Ronpa has a Lot of those anti name urls. It's a bit funny.

I may be following the wrong folks, but I unfollowed somebody from RvB this week because they posted a guilt-trippy discourse post about how saying "pedophilia and incest are bad" means that people will call them antis. For, y'know. Acting like an anti.

And I've run into other RvB tumblrs by fairly popular writers with "do not follow if you ship incest, you gross person" pages. Which is pretty fucking funny to me, considering
that two of the most popular early ships for Carolina were Texas and the Director, who turned out to be her parents.

...where the hell would you even find pedophilia in the rvb fandom? There's like. One kid? And he's a giant blue alien who almost never hangs out with the main cast?? Or were they talking about Theta?

Additionally fuck those guys, I will ship all the incest I want, and Carolina/Tex is the BEST ship. Because Tex isn't actually her mother and that's part of what makes them so interesting!
