I've seen people bash Kylo Ren fans for "giving him the redemption arc that should have been Finn's." Which doesn't make sense on multiple levels.
Yeah, and again, Finn's only "crime" is being kidnapped and brainwashed from childhood. There's nothing TO redeem. He hasn't actually done anything wrong except be affiliated with The Bad People when he didn't have any other choice.
of course, this is tumblr, where any interaction with The Bad People makes you horrible and problematic
God damn that is stupid. Though the thing that annoys me most besides Mando dude bros is the fuckers who are EXTREMIST about the legends material or the Disney shit. The EU fans who are extremely pissed and think that Disney ruined absolutely everything and are assholes about it are assholes. Also if you are a Mando dude bro blaming Disney for RepComm's non-canonicity you have no real argument. It was non-canon before the buyout due to the Clone Wars. Feloni and the Lucas Film management at the time are who you need to be expressing ire towards. Disney had fuck and all to do with that debacle. The Disney fans who meanwhile are overly spiteful towards EU fans and are like the EU was all trash are also assholes. You can prefer one over the other or be done with one part of Star Wars but for the love of god do you have to be such dicks to people about it?
*bursts back in two days late with starbucks* AND ANOTHER THING Chromia has been getting ship tease with Ironhide pretty much since she started being an actual player driving the plot (plus the eighties canon). Aesthetically, she has at least some feminine indicators. I just really, really want to know where the heck is this stone butch coding Also, flashbacks to the time I got hatemail for writing this m/m ship for a character (a robot), when I should have been writing that m/m ship instead, and ugh how dare I. But they allowed that at least I didn't straightwash a queer man (robot). Where are people getting this nonsense?
if you use a black and white filter in your red vs blue amv, i will have pretty much no fucking idea who is who i mean, seriously, the voices and the armor colours are the primary ways i tell apart the characters and if you remove both, your fanvid quickly loses all meaning like, yeah, i know who is who in Certain Significant Scenes but in normal fight scenes or whatever, i need the colours and/or voices to tell what the fuck is going on and get the desired feels from it
this time, i'm griping at myself. myself and colours. making crossovers is hard when colours that are hella important in one thing mean shit that just doesn't fit in another thing. and of course, i could solve this by just going with default white souled undertale monsters but... i really like undertale monsters with coloured souls and magic blushes and magic pants stuff, so... fuck... and like, i definitely can't compromise the red vs blue armor colours (and since monsters wear clothing, i won't entirely have to but i don't want to give everyone too many colours in their palettes either) but i'm not giving everyone Unfitting SOUL Colours either. i'll probably have to go with "all the monsters SOULs are white and the monsters all blush red" to make it make sense to me but i don't want to.
i rather like the white souls with a colored outline a lot of fanartists do for monsters, would that be workable? plus, people cant really control what traits they have to make the different magic colors in game, so itd be seen more as a personality thing rather than choice? that way you could do both colors from both things maybe.
yeah, that would probably work! :D i mean, my brain is kinda loling over the idea of, say, "my dick is green 'cause i am feeling particularly kind today," but other than that, it sounds pretty workable, yeah.
I'm sick of the thing where you can't say, "hey this villain seems mentally ill" because it means you think all mentally ill people are fucking cartoon villains who're gonna go and stab their dads. Piiiiiisss entirely off. As someone who has read non-tumblrite posts about how Kylo Ren can never be redeemed because he's obviously crazy and dudes like that just need to be put down, I don't think that kinda talk strikes as much a blow against ableism as they want it to. The people who're gonna look at a dude who talks to inanimate objects and throws temper tantrums and punches his gaping stomach wound and think "wow, this dude isn't exactly mentally sound" aren't gonna not think that just cause you whine at them a bit. And maybe if what you want out of thw story is the same thing the dudes who think "not mentally sound" = needs to be put down like a dog....
Also, the post that prompted my last post said "if Kylo Ren turns out mentally ill it won't be good representation" and like buddy what do you expect to happen, like the dude's gonna get an official diagnosis? Like Luke's gonna hand Rey a bottle of pills and say "here's his schizophrenia meds what that he went off the day before he killed a bunch of dudes, because he's schizophrenic." or something, like please. It's never gonna be anything but a way of interpreting the character.
What we're going to miss between movies is Luke training Rey to be a fully certified psychiatrist, and when she graduates from being his student, he's going to hand her the greatest gift a Jedi can ever give his pupil-- a fully stocked, portable pharmacy and a copy of the dsm-5
Honestly half the star wars villains seem to sum up to "really needa therapy and some pills". Need a villain? Get a mentally ill person. Maybe stick them in a cult. Now give them a planet destroying laser.
I used to play a game with JRPGs where I'd try to determine how much of the conflict could have been completely prevented just by getting one person adequate therapy/support. E.g., the entirety of Tales of Symphonia's conflict owes its existence to one kid never getting proper grief counseling, most of Last Scenario's stems from two people's years of unaddressed trauma, and all the world-spanning death and destruction of Knights in the Nightmare happened just because Heaven thought brainwashing their people into emotionless, unquestioning servants who deny any feelings of their own and then sending them to deal with serious issues was a functional plan. It's fun!

sometimes i see a funny moment from canon used at an epic, emotionally powerful part of a song in a fanvid and i'm like, "uh... this is awkward." i mean, it can work but sometimes the funny canon context just sticks too deeply in my head that and there are times when non-funny scenes are used in fanvids in ways that don't really fit the scene or song, emotionally or thematically speaking and like it's all pretty subjective and what works for people varies but my brain is very insistent about highlighting stuff in fanvids that just don't work for me. and yet i love fanvids. they are awesome.
that and fanvids that make no sense when i try to get a narrative from them which doesn't bother me so much on ones with funny songs but with feelsy songs it gets me 'cause with feelsy songs, i'm taking it more seriously as a thing and it's hard to explain hmmm.... fanvids where it's like, "so it's steven universe wait for it but steven is burr and connie is used as theodosia and onion is used as james reynolds. and peridot is hamilton. and it starts with lion barfing and ends with a random scene from garnet's universe." that exact fanvid i described doesn't exist, it is just an example i made up, but i have watched several vids that feel that way to me, and which seem unaware of how little narrative sense they make.
