when writers put ~ at the end of dialogue it bothers me a bit if they do it once it bugs me a little, but i can deal. but people who do this tend to do it either eight times in a row ~~~~~~ or end every other sentence with it~ over and over~
Fanfiction gripe that is entirely my own fault: I posted an incredibly self-indulgent AU minific in such a way that it wouldn't show up in the tag, because it's an incredibly self-indulgent AU and I've already got enough of the most recent posts in the RH tag that some of them don't display. I now have no idea if anyone saw it or not.
Is this a genuine open offer and, if so, how do you feel about Undertale? Because I could totally use someone to double-check my grammar and haul me back out when I get stuck in an extended metaphor.
Minor frustration; sharing an in-joke in a fanfic with a friend and watching as absolutely nobody gets it. I guess the My Hero Academia fandom isn't widely familiar with Puccini, and it would be even more annoying if we thought it was an in-joke and everyone got it right off, but yeah.
@TwoBrokenMirrors If it helps, I meant it totally sincerely, on the grounds that I, too, am very proud of my fics on AO3 which have very minimal kudos counts. Like, I can count those kudos on one hand, and I treasure every damn one of them. : D

HI FUCKING FIVE I have four stories on AO3 and only one of them has kudos in the double digits, and that's because it's attached as 'inspired by' to one of the big fics in a small fandom, since I knew the author for a while. Of course maybe if I stopped writing stuff like 'Mycroft and Saruman have angry wall sex' and 'what if Wheatley from Portal was a Roman soldier and also got raped' and 'maybe I can make this scene from a children's cartoon more traumatising' that would improve. But I doubt it. xP
I... think "betrays" is supposed to mean "causes me to betray" here? An attempt to convey meaning succinctly and poetically by shortening a phrase to one word that captures the gist, maybe? Like misusing the verb "reels" as a noun. Except both these words already have usages that work in the given contexts and have totally different definitions in those contexts. This fic. Holy fuck, what quotes.

I don't think it was a fanfic of anything, but it's a terrible porn gripe and I've seen similar weirdness happen in fic, so... Spoiler: VERY NSFW I have a strong memory of a comment on someone's terrible lesbian porn fic where the writer was obviously male and was writing what he thought a lesbian-only city would be like. Apart from unnecessary grossness and complete lack of writing skills, one of the commenters' complaints was "About half the story consists of lines like 'Cindy got up to use the toaster. The toaster was shaped like a vagina.'" I don't know if that was an actual kink the guy had or just him failing to imagine how disturbing genitals on everything would look. Another comment was "Everything looking like a vagina would get old, fast. I am all for vagoos, no really, but let's be honest; I don't want to sleep in a vulva-bed and sit on cooter-chairs and make breakfast in a twat-toaster and drive a vagina-car to my vagina-office to work on my vagina-computer and then go home and have sex with my female partner. I'd be all 'Wait, am I having sex or making a pizza? Is this my laptop? My cell phone? What?'"
YOI Badfic Friend just quoted a thing from a bad a/b/o fic at me where a character was talking to his long-lost son about the kid's other dad, and within two paragraphs went from "I never wanted to give you up for adoption, he threw you out in the middle of the night while I was sleeping, but it's a good thing you found another home because I wouldn't have wanted him to be the alpha role model in your life" to "he was amazing, he was so sweet, it's nice to know a part of him is still around in you, he'd be so proud of you." The same fic has a social worker buying a client a dog as a surprise present, the same social worker being ENCOURAGED to pursue a relationship with that client, and an "omega sanctuary community" where no one is allowed access to computers or phones "in case they try to get in touch with their abusers." Also has a therapist who tries to creep on a client less than three minutes into the first appointment just so Love Interest Social Worker can rescue him.
...ummm. So are omegas assumed to not have autonomy or anything because. Technically legally you can't make an adult leave an abusive relationship I think? Are adult omegas permanently treated like kids in that case?
