Here's one: people in fic who are communicating electronically ALWAYS typing like teenage girls on Tumblr. Someone who doesn't use the internet enough to have internalized Rules about how to read tone in text texting someone is at least going to have the capitalization autocorrect puts in.
Or people in fic who all type exactly the same. Homestuck typing quirks can get Weird, but they're actually pretty true to the really diverse ways people communicated over AIM and other chat clients-- even ignoring a lot of the substitution-based quirks, you can tell a lot about a character based on how they type. I wish people explored that more.
My friend is reading TWEWY badfic (by the same author as the hooker AU where Joshua charged less than bus fare for sex, for those who remember that), and this time it's a demon AU in which Joshua is 1/3 incubus. 1/3. How?
I think someone did the math on a similar 1/3 sort of nonsense and determined you'd have to have intermingling incubi bloodlines over... either 6 or 8 generations to get that amount of heritage.

I think it's... you'd have to be 4/16ths of a thing to be 1/3rd of it, so that's... somewhere down the line, you have to have parents that are both 1/8th or something like that. It was very convoluted and I can't actually find the post itself.
4/16 is 1/4, though. I don't think you can get exactly 1/3, unless we're counting "actual percentage of genetic material that was inherited from this ancestor," in which case it's raw chance. You could approximate it better the more generations back the breeding program went, though- if 43 of your 128 great^5 grandparents were demons, for instance, it'd be ~33.59% demon, while 1/3 is 33.33%.
GOD I AM SO BAD AT EVERYTHING. 8/24ths, or something. It was a REALLY BIZARRE FRACTION and I cannot remember it for the life of me. (In my defense I have gotten about 3 hours of sleep every night for the last week and a half because fucking birds, so I'm not firing on full.)
BTW, fun time activity for if you love Tolkien and hate yourself: try to figure out what percent Elf Aragorn and Arwen's kids are. I tried that once. I regretted it.
Gripe I have just developed I dove into the Xenoblade Chronicles section on Ao3, and Good Lord. Fully half of the 300-ish fics are also Super Smash Brothers crossovers. This is what the ship tags look like: Spoiler: I have so many things to complain about Guess which of these tags is the one that only has Xenoblade characters! Some don't have any at all! (It's Shulk/Fiora, y'know, the one with thirteen hits) ...It looks like this is mostly the work of two authors who, between the two, have written 120+ fics of crossover porn. The most popular Xenoblade fic is 300k about SSB characters at Hot Topic, and while I admire the author's dedication I still feel like this is not the category to place that fic in. This feels kind of all over the place when I type it out but every time I swap back to the other tab I find something else that annoys me. ...any good Xenoblade fic recs?
Far enough removed that Elf God doesn't smite them for being the product of incest and that's all that matters.
Despite my petty and irrational resentment of Xenoblade, I feel your pain. That's like when I went looking in the Mistborn section, but so much worse.
I mean, if he was going to do that he would have smote Aragorn first. He's descended from both Isildur and Anarion, who were brothers, and that's a LOT more recent than his descent from Arwen's uncle. :::PPP
