now i want post-pacifist undertale fic in which the monsters, now that they are aboveground, are cautious around humans 'cause they are well aware of how thoroughly humans could fuck them up if they got the urge. 'cause it feels like to me most post-pacifist fic doesn't really take account of how much the power imbalance could affect things, how stuff like mouthing off at/trying to dunk pta linda when she does something bigoted could work out really badly - even if humans end up mostly thinking monsters are awesome.
A couple things: I read a fic that had a therapist screaming at her patient because he had therapy-related trauma and didn't want to attend sessions, and this was just treated as The Correct Way To Do Things. In another fic a really well-written sex scene was completely spoiled because character A kept saying things like "I'm going to be late" and "I need to leave" and "you need to let me up" and just generally trying to get his partner to lay off, but character B didn't because ~he could tell that he liked it and ~he doesn't need to get there on time anyway because character A had a reputation for being late so no one would care. Which on top of everything is really out of character because character B is canonically very respectful of others. And of course it wasn't tagged.
There was a person I knew on Livejournal who griped one time about porn word usage; he's a pathologist, and he said he keeps on reading "pussy" as meaning "of or pertaining to pus".
'Nother one from relativelylessimportant: "That awkward moment when an 'impossible' situation has more than one really obvious solution."
... the infamous pta linda has just arrived (though this isn't even a fic about the pta) and sans is here we all know what that means, yeah?
One I saw involved the monsters outright breaking into Linda's house, and they were still supposed to be the heroes.
Wait. Are you telling me that the Undertale fandom has managed to take one of my least favorite fic cliches, the high school AU, and make it even worse? Is the next phase going to be Truth or Dare fic?
It's not really high school AU; it's "Frisk is in elementary/middle school and all the monsters are Frisk's parental figures".
Well, that's…that's…certainly something. Lord. Do they all go to the PTA meetings at once? Because I've not played Undertale but from what I know it has a decent number of non-human folk, and that is a really funny mental image.
Usually it seems to be just Sans, and it's set post-monster-integration so that usually ends up being irrelevant.
"all monsters" in this case usually means any of the main six (usually sans) and/or metatton, not all the monsters in the underground. like, you never get a moldsmal telling linda where to stick her lemon bars or anything like that. just the main guys and the robot. and flowey too, sometimes.
That's disappointing. Come on, people, if you're going to wring an entire sub-genre of fic out of the same tired premise, at least be funny about it. Also:
YOI Badfic Friend has now told me so much about bad YOI fanfic that I overheard one of my roommates talking about the show in the living room and could identify several ways she was completely wrong about it and I still haven't even seen the show.
more commentary on pta undertale stuff: it always feels tacky and unnecessarily mean when the monsters insult the pta parents' kids. 'cause like, it's not the kids' fault that their parents are assholes and if the kids are in the room for the monsters insulting them, the insults will end up hurting them. and like, with the "burning in hell" line existing, i can sorta see why people would think sans would do that but i'm pretty sure that was an extra special case - the human had just killed practically all the monsters, after all.
