The first 5 or so pics are builds based on RP settings I was participating in, and the rest are just things that sprung from my brain save for the last two. Weirdly, I'd say my favorite things to make are mazes and lighthouses, but i don't have any good shots of my lighthouses handy...

in my first ever world, a creeper camped outside the dirt hut i had made myself to survive the first night.
ever since then, ive been playing on peaceful.

currently, im playing on a creative server of a university friend of mine's, and my own server (without mods currently) with my dad. he works below grounds, i work above.
i spent a few days of just travelling in a straight line to find different biomes to get all the different types of wood and seeds. (first jungle biome i came across: about 7000 blocks from the spawn point. joy. i have, while looking for that jungle biome, found about a dozen underwater monuments, three desert temples, and just about every other biome, quirks included.) (i was so happy when i finally spotted the jungle)

If you're using atlauncher, Natural Magic is a fun pack with lots of magic stuff, but like no tech outside Forestry. And modified orespawn so you don't have to dig into the butt of the dirt to get anything. Even diamonds show up aboveground! A ton of them! So there's like no scarcity but there's also none of the tech you'd use to get to the point that you're swimming in diamonds anyways so.

I may miss that in my ftb infinity world but I wanna play with tech now while waiting for nm to update sooo...

Also I am a serial restarter. I'll play a world for a few days, and start hating my location. So I'll load up another one. And then try another one... I did find a good spot once but then upgraded mods so I didn't want to deal with the hassle of trying to recreate or integrate into the world. :(

Heh, thanks for the likes! When I say I like building I really....like building.

Ok, informal poll: creeper holes. Do you fill them in completely or just put a layer over the top?

Depends on depth and materials on hand. I'm lazy about shallow holes and tend to layer over the top with the dirt that drops from the blast. Holes deep enough for things to spawn in get filled to where they don't, usually leaving a tiny hole on the bottom because lazy.

I've gotta fill them in. If I don't have enough dirt I'll go whack down a nearby hill to do it too. It has to be perfect and filled in and flat. If I'm just covering an inconvenient hole or pond or something I'll just drop in a few torches though.

Likewise my so asked why I was turning a perfectly good hilly area into Ohio. I need all this flat to build because what if I expand? Where do my farms go?

If I have cobble to spare I'll fill in most of the hole and throw dirt on top of it. if not... i'll just put a couple torches in and throw dirt on top of that. THERE YA GO GOOD AS NEW

I'll fill it back in with the dirt I picked up from the explosion, but whether I do more than that depends on if it's close to my base.

I have to fill it in...if not right away then eventually. I will sometimes use cobble for the bottom layers but dirt all the way.

I have a couple questions about mods, if it's ok to ask those here?

    1. (this is probably dumb, but I've only played vanilla before, so) Will new mods be possible to apply to existing maps?

    2. Is there any mods that lets you fly in survival mode?

I've started this dumb floating tower project. Haven't even gotten to the trickiest part yet, and am already sick of falling to my death...

I'm pretty new to minecraft (as in, i started playing the xbox version [someone else's very old non-updated version, to boot] two weeks ago and the computer version a week ago when i lost access to the xbox, hah) and I must be the world's boringest player because I'm p much permanently on vanilla peaceful and my current favourite thing to do is find a cave, explore the cave, and when the cave is explored, pick a spot and either dig a straight set of steps down or dig a nicely symmetrical horizontal tunnel. I do this until I run into lava or open into another cave somewhere.
I will also go on creative and turn natural features into whatever thing they remind me most of, if I'm feeling really imaginative.
All this mod talk alarms me rather than entices me, frankly. This may change of course when I get bored of my current modus operandi, which is likely to happen relatively quickly if I know my own brain.
Mostly though I just want to toodle about and poke stuff without worrying about dying too much, hence peaceful.
Not sure why I felt like sharing this, considering it is so boring. xP

@overpants-anon : iirc, you might be able to use a vanilla save file and and load a modpack with it, though several things may happen:

-It has to be the same version #. (i.e. if you're using a modpack that's compatible with 1.7, you can't use a 1.8 save.)

-if the modpack contains new ores or blocks/structures that spawn, they won't exist in the chunks you've already created, so you'll have to travel a bit and spawn new chunks to get the new stuff.

-so basically, mods like WorldEdit (good for building) or handy map mods like Voxel are easy to add to vanilla saves w/o messing things up. world-changing stuff gets more complicated.

Also, you can't really convert a modded save back to a vanilla one easily, its more likely to crash or get corrupted, so make copies!

Basically, if you download a mod-launcher like Feed the Beast/AT Launcher/Technic Launcher (the ones I use, I'm sure there are more) there are tons of instructions on their sites to walk you through stuff if you google them. But basically what you do is open the launcher, have it load in the modpack you want to use. (i.e. get to the game title screen where you would make a new world.) then quit the game, go into your Roaming folder (on a PC, I don't know how it works on Mac), click the folder with the name of the launcher. Then there's usually a folder called mods or modpacks. in that folder should be the name of the modpack you want, and there should be a folder in that called "saves". paste a copy of your world in there, then load up the launcher again.

THEORETICALLY this should work, but if anyone has any actual experience doing this, feel free to chime in.

EDIT: off the top of my head, DartCraft lets you make flying armor? There are also a bunch of mods w jetpacks. IndustrialCraft2, Applied Energistics I think?

@TwoBrokenMirrors the newest vanilla update has a ton of cool stuff in it so there's totally nothing to be ashamed of :p I honestly don't end up using half the mods in the modpacks I use because there's just SO MUCH STUFF. I can be overwhelming! I say do what you find fun and then branch out only if you're interested.

@Valerie I haven't tried it, but I'm very tempted since my usual Minecraft computer needs a computer doctor. 8( I'd be interested to know if its any good, too.

That is I think what I am planning to do. Eventually I will get bored of Mining All The Things and then I can move on. Too many choices at once just makes me afraid. xP

It would be very nice if me and the bf could set up a long-distance joint server to play together but I don't think either of us are good enough at computers to do so. =/

Forestry mod users: How do you trees? I've got bees more or less figured out, but making trees happen is ???

I am out of spoons and can only Minecraft right now, but most guides are either so clinical or so vague as to be useless to me... or are spoonsinks. So if someone can simplewords it for me that would be awesome.

I read somewhere bees do the cross-pollination but I've never had it happen. Is it only certain breeds/traits? The only thing I've figured out so far are using the grafter and treealyzer.

@Valerie @Enzel minecraft mobile is basically perma-creative mode with like 80% of the functionality missing, unfortunately. it's not nearly as interesting as the actual version ):

@Lazarae I've only watched vids on Forestry, but iirc you plant two trees that can crossbreed near an active apiary/beehive, and eventually some of the leaf blocks will turn a slightly different color. If you break it with a grafter it will give you a new type of sapling. The combinations are set, so you may have to look them up. I don't think the type/genes of the bees themselves matter too much.

@bluefox aw, too bad. I was always sort of puzzled how the experience would work with a touch screen anyway, it doesn't seem like they'd go together well.
