Okay but consider: the superglued shards fusion experiments being originally started as a possible way to un-shatter Pink And then things go, well, how we see them in modern times, and they can't do that to a diamond but they also can't admit an idea the Diamonds had failed so... is this weaponisable? Let's go with that, it was absolutely meant to create a superweapon all along, definitely
And as a plus side, the superweapon's first try is against the planet Rose was willing to shatter a Diamond for, which just makes things even better.
steven having all sorts of powers the way he does makes me imagine pink diamond basically going and deciding to make her first gems, the rose quartzes, into the most self-indulgent "mary sues" ever, giving them all the cool magic she can think of. and like, if cg rose quartz and steven are any indication of what pink diamond and her court were like, what they valued and emphasized, this could easily be what happened. that or like, maybe every diamond's first gem is really self-indulgent and powerful. maybe all diamonds go through a phase like that, a phase in which they are basically a teenaged girl with godlike power.
