I'm not a doctor but I managed to learn first-aid thanks to my old job. Main problem is lack of supplies, but I hit the quarantine hospital. They got overrun by zombies instead of overwhelmed by patients and nobody else was crazy enough to loot the place so it was loaded.

...Weird, possibly supernatural variant humans. One of you guys said they were like... frames without a spark or brain. Or like "spark eaters." In media they're either magic dead people come back to life or infected- either a virus messes with their brain and makes them hyper-aggressive while repressing higher functions, or a cordyceps-like parasitic fungus hijacks them for its own reproductive purposes. What we've got is a weird mix. While infected they're still themselves, all the disease does is kill them. But infected who die- it doesn't matter how, I've seen people who died of their wounds get back up- experience a "resurrection event" where they come back and start trying to eat people. Inside the Exclusion Zone where things started the disease is only carried through contact with the zombies- scratches have a small but not insignificant likelihood of infection, bites are almost guaranteed. About a week after the Knox Event- the first confirmed resurrection event and subsequent quarantine of the county- things changed outside the Exclusion Zone. Last I heard nobody knew how it was spreading. People who weren't anywhere near the zombies were getting infected. There were confirmed cases on the other side of the world. It shouldn't be communicable in that stage, and most people couldn't get away from the Knox area even if they were outside the quarantine. Shit was too blocked up from disaster response.

Do you understand the mechanism it works on? Do they change somehow so they can keep going after they get knocked down?

 

I dissected one and all it looked was sick. Heading towards organ failure. Mostly they don't seem to register pain. They'll bash open windows and doors with their face, or fall three stories and keep crawling. But they'll die from any injuries that'd kill an ordinary human where shock's not a factor. Most of the ones that took a dive from a height ended up dead. It's just the lucky ones that only broke their legs that kept going. They're pretty squishy, actually- it takes a bit of work to beat someone healthy to death, but anyone who can swing a bat with any force can take down a zombie in a few swings.

 

Ohh, I'd love to get one of those in our labs. Sounds like it could have Applications.
