I'm either going to get popular on tumblr or break my computer. Someday, one of those things.

 

I've just discovered that my hair is long enough that if I flip it directly upwards it makes a satisfying soft thwack against the ceiling.

 

Awesome!! I'll ramble about Kyoto a bit preemptively. My favorite shrine I went to was Fushimi Inari-taisha, aka that one with all the torii. It's gorgeousssss and really peaceful, when I went it wasn't too crowded and the trails are absolutely gorgeous; it's also open 24/7 so it's great to go to when other shrines and things are closing. I had Determination to reach the top but boy it took me a long time (hour and a half i think?? I know it took me approximately half and hour to go down and i was seriously 'gotta go fast' about going down because it was sunset and no one in the world knew where i was (i was traveling alone) and i had the fear of the spirit realm in me). And it's veryyyyy exhausting. I was shaking a bit by the end of it. Gorgeous though, probably would do it again exactly the same way.

I also went to the Golden pavilion and Silver pavilion (not official names, but convenient colloquial ones). They were both much smaller but very lovely, gorgeous places! I was in the silver pavilion in a really peaceful slow rain, which just made the streams and the gardens even more gorgeous and i had traditional tea while watching the rain, it was excellent. they're both smaller and in my memory fairly interchangable, so if pressed for time just one of those is probly fine.

the first temple I went to was kiyomizu-dera! which is one of the most popular ones so you'll probably end up going; it was gorgeous as well! all of kyoto is gorgeous. it's a great place. Main thing I remember here is there was a line of people going to drink water from a cool controlled waterfall thing and i was like 'well i have no clue if i'll like, get terrible local water sickness from this probably straight from a natural spring water but i'll drink it anyways cause this looks cool' and i didn't get sick!! the water is fine to drink, also if i remember correctly it's for good luck. Anyways, temple was fun. there's also lots of cool tourist shops and things on the road on the way up to this temple.

I also! in kyoto, went to their aquarium. It was adorable, they have a bigggg central aquarium meant to represent the local sealife and it's absolutely gorgeous to behold. I was really really tired the day I went to the aquarium, and it was a great relax time. lots of cool fish, good aquarium, no complaints. it was walking distance from my hostel, too!

Aaand if you're going to Kyoto, both Osaka and Nara are a day trip's distance from there! If you take the express J-rail it's about a 40 minute trip to either. I'll talk about them in another post if you want!!

If you go to nara, don't meme on the deer

Just give them cookies or theyll make weird annoyed noises at you (or possibly bite your hand if theyre in a hurry to get the cookie)

 

those deer are in a MIGHTY HURRY to get the cookie.
if you have no cookie some of the deer who are full and just chilling away from cookie stations let u just pet them a lot tho
be careful if petting one boy deer and another boy deer comes to say hello. they may decide to fight over you.
aka two deer locked antlers LITERALLY A FOOT AWAY FROM ME and i have never scrambled away from a situation so quickly

 

The deer at the Itsukushima Shrine, aka water torii or floating torii, near Hiroshima (my personal favorite shrine in this stunning little area, near a fucking gorgeous city) are way, way less pushy. They're friendly and you can approach and maybe pet (their antlers are velvety) but they're way less likely than the Nara deer to nip you quite firmly if you're not fast enough about distributing your deer wafers.

I didn't find Nara deer too offputting with their pushyness; but I've worked with miniature horses which are approximately 4x more powerful and pushy. A nara deer nipping my stomach was a fraction of the pain of good ol Bandit biting my stomach when I fed the big horse before him

 

A deer in Nara literally pinched my ass. Hard. It bit the top of my back jeans pocket and also the flesh underneath. It wanted a fucking wafer sooner rather than later thank you very much.

I wouldn't really say it hurt. I mean it did hurt but not in an injury way, just in an unpleasant sudden strong sensation way. It didn't at all seem like it was trying to injure me, just make the depth of its displeasure known.

I wasn't even mad, because how many people can say a deer has pinched their ass? I have no idea, but I'm one of them!

 

habituated animals can be rather pushy

someone commented "this video game gave me chills" on an amv for a cartoon and i'm amazed that someone actually managed to be that wrong

 

maybe they just meant to type "this video gave me chills" and didn't realize they left the typo "game" in there?

sometimes my autocorrect panics and tries to square my weird typos by inserting random words :P
