What are your fan fiction gripes?

  1. BaseDeltaZero

    BaseDeltaZero Shitposting all night.

    It gets hits.

But really, that's pretty much just a swap of secondary sex characteristics. Breasts seem more practical than facial hair TBH... but I'm probably biased.

On the other hand, the only thing I recall treating the 'subject' with any degree of seriousness is, uh... Boku no Futatsu no Tsubasa (My Two Wings), which is... kind of annoying. See also: monster girls.

Rule 63 of characters with strongly gendered names which doesn't change their names is really jarring to me. It's bad enough when the new given name is stupid, but there really ought to be one of some sort, otherwise I forget it's even supposed to be R63 in the first place.

My favourites are the ones from this and the one where someone caught by Pyramid Head ends up "flopping in the monster's strong arms like a fish. A fish that was about to be raped."

    Hortense! Fetch the lubricant!

I have very very very fond memories of the binder stories and weepingcock in general.

Always remember ladling in the lube.
And the discussion of how one can moan in french.

Thanks for relinking me to these masterpieces.

I personally do not like genital euphemisms. They generally are not well done and take me out of the scene. I do not like wing!fic where binders are worn long term and the wings are magically okay.

Genital words are especially tricky when trying to find in-character ones for non-contemporary characters which aren't hilarious.

yeah, i don't like weird junk euphemisms except in situations when the characters themselves would use them, and then the hilariousness/grossout factor is just part of the experience

I once ended up resorting to "thing that looks like a thing" because the character probably wouldn't say "phallic".

I've been spoiled by trolls. Having one simple in-character term to use for each part is so much easier.

Discussions of special interest fandom have concluded they have no good euphemisms. Historical ones which would be suitable for the time period (admittedly vague with influences from everything from the Celts to WW2) almost all sound stupid, and furries using "cock" or "pussy" just doesn't work when they can hold a conversation with an actual bird or cat.

Fics where people insert sexism into settings that don't feature it (at least not prominently) in canon. Like, one of my favorite things about TFA is that Rey never gets any sorta extra crap thrown her way cause she's a chick, and then fandom has to go and throw all sorta of "whu whu a giiiirl can't" for her to overcome and it's just. Tiresome. Like, I get it, I get that some people want that kinda. Wish fulfillment where you get to see a chick beat back the people who think less of her for her gender, but also, urgh. Like, we got casual lady stormtroopers in the First Order and all sorts of lady officers in the Resistance and Leia's a General, and it's obnoxious when people throw that away for he sake of drama.

Plus it's like! Star Wars is the Worst for weird sexist "a chick can't do the fight" because on the one hand you got normies who use guns and ships and who the fuck's gonna say there's any sorta disadvantage a chick has compared to a dude when it comes to shooting guns and flying ships?? And on the other, you got wizards who wield weightless swords and space magic. Physical strength doesn't matter, what matters is your willpower. A universe in which a three foot tall elderly gremlin is a powerful melee combatant cannot claim that a girl shouldn't even bother fighting because she's always gonna be at a disadvantage.
