  1. What if I played Fallout 4 in-character as Mr Egbert, trying to save my son John- I mean, Shaun? Would that be funny? Or has it already been done?

idk if it's been done but it'd sure be fun. reminds me of fond memories of all the runthroughs of 3 and Vegas I've done as John or Jake over the years. 8D Hammers and fisticuffs. nothin' beats punching a deathclaw in the dick with your fist.

Can confirm, I ran a New Vegas girl who did punching and it was great.... except I had to keep reloading because my companions were made of paper comparatively.

  4. Obviously you need less companions.

  8. Can do!

    The story so far-

After getting ready for the day, having breakfast and doing some paperwork for the door-to-door Vault-Tec employee, I was ready for a nice day in the park with my beautiful wife Roxanne and my infant son John- I mean, Shaun. Then it all went to hell. Nuclear war had begun. My wife and I took our son and ran to the vault, barely making it there in time. We get our vault suits and enter the "decontamination" chambers, but then it gets very, very cold. This is a cryogenics chamber. Vault-Tec lied to us. So cold...

I don't know how long I was frozen. When I wake up, there's a man and a woman opening the chamber across from mine- Roxanne and Shaun's. They're alive! But now they're taking Shaun and... Oh god. Oh god no, he shot my wife. He kidnapped my son. As soon as I get out of this thing I am going to kill you with my bare hands. But I can't move. It's still too cold...

I wake up again and the chamber opens. I run to Roxanne's chamber in case by some miracle she's still alive, but no. She's... gone. I take her wedding ring.

I get out of the vault and see a wasteland where my home town used to be. All the houses are in shambles. But someone is still there- Codsworth, my trusty robotic friend. I can't believe anyone else survived, and he's as happy and shocked to see me as I am to see him. We see if there's any sign of Shaun or his kidnapper in Sanctuary, but there's nothing but garbage and giant bugs. On top of that, I found one of my suits still intact but not a single hat.

Codsworth points me in the direction of Concord. Let's see if anyone there can help.

  9. The story so far, part 2-

On the road to Concord, I pass the Red Rocket station and am greeted by a large, white dog. He seems friendly enough. I think I'll call him Bec. We get to town and find some raiders in a shootout with a group holed up in the museum. One of them shouts down to me, asking for help. I scrounge some armor from the dead raiders, along with a pair of brass knuckles, and Bec and I fight our way through the building. Once we take care of the raiders, I am greeted by Preston Garvey, leader of the surviving Commonwealth Minutemen. More raiders are on their way, but lucky for us there's a crashed vertibird and a suit of Power Armor on the roof. I retrieve a fusion core from the building's generator and fire the armor up.

I take the vertibird's minigun and shoot my way through the raiders and what the hell is that thing!? It's called a Deathclaw. Of course it is. The minigun isn't quite enough to put it down, but I shoot one of the abandoned cars and its engine explodes, killing the beast. Mission accomplished, barely.

Preston and the others thank me for my assistance, and we go back to Sanctuary. One of the Minutemen, Sturges, helps me fix the place up so everyone has somewhere to sleep, along with food, water and some sentry guns just in case. Preston gives me some info on what's happened in the Commonwealth while I was on ice, and Mama Murphy assures me that my son is still alive. She says I should go to Diamond City to start my search for him, but Preston hopes I can help out a settlement at Tenpines before I go. I'm a bit reluctant, but if it can help make this wasteland a better place, it's the right thing to do.

Before going to Tenpines, Bec and I do some scavenging around Concord. There are no hats to be found, but I did find a cake pan. Now I just need some ingredients for baking.

This've been bugging me a lot now that I'm rereading, maybe you guys have thoughts.

    About Dave, Dirk and Roxy:

Upon meeting them, in both cases Dave almost immediately says something to the tune of "You're the paradox clones of our guardians, so you're responsible for our shitty upbringing". I know the talk with Dirk goes into much more nuance and detail later, but I don't really understand why both Dirk and Roxy agree that they hold the blame right away? They are paradox clones, so they're genetically identical to Bro and Mom, okay, but... they aren't them. They lived in different times, different circumstances, they never met Dave and Rose prior to the game. And yet, they're both like "yeah sure". Am I missing something here? Dirk said he could see himself growing into the person Bro was, but he still wasn't him, and... I don't know anymore.

The honest explanation is "issues all the way down". Dirk and Roxy both have fucked up boundary lines and self esteem issues and Dave is lashing out. So you get Dave going "You are genetically the same people responsible for me and my ecto sib's childhood suffering so I'm going to poke at that because I have no other viable deal with this since both those people are dead."

And Dirk and Roxy are going "Yes, we are terrible, horrible people and even if we didn't do this thing directly in this time line, this is proof that we are inherently FUCKED, and it's our fault by proxy."

Dave seems to realize what he's doing and pulls up, has a frank talk with Dirk, and flat out tells him "no, you aren't that person. You have the potential, but that doesn't make it inevitable."

Wait, am I forgetting something? Did he really talk negatively at Roxy? I seemed to remember their convo going well.

Edit: Like, please do correct me if I'm wrong! It's been a bit since I read that one. I just remember his issues with Bro far more, personally.

Yeah, I don't remember him saying much directly to Roxy the first time they met, seeing as she was asleep, and the next conversation I remember between them included him asking if he could call her Mom.

    ... I am totally due for a re-read.
