NGL tho looking back on how sketchy Kaput is actually gives me an emotional connection to him where before I was just upset bc one of my friends really loves him.

Personally I am still holding out for some longstanding revenge plot somehow linking in with the Brainstorm stuff. Brainstorm has got to have been working on the timetravel stuff for a while. In fact the wiki says that "the project took several centuries to complete". Kaput can not have been vanished for all that long, given the Ironfist thing. And one of the few things we know about Kaput to be canon is that he and Brainstorm worked on Kimia station at the same time. I am side-eyeing this. I am side-eyeing this hard. Brainstorm potentially breaking physics again, while someone just so happens to turn up who may actually have known about his original time travel bullshit plan? Especially when we don't know how Kaput almost-died-and-was-vanished-by-censere?

Oh hey given the functionism thing being a theme, Kaput being The Spark Guy, Brainstorm being an MTO, what we just learned about Rung being capable of doing, Lug... I would not at all be surprised if we learn about Kaput being involved in the Cold-Con developement process :') And I would also not be surprised if he was planning some concerning things wrt that. Tyrest tried to kill all Cold-Cons and I doubt they're gonna recycle somethign too close to that but there's a lot of scary things you can pull with Cold Cons if you know intimately how they work when you don't destroy them. Especially now that he has emotional hooks in a bonafide Blacksmith.

And hey. Getaway is an MTO too ;)

I've seen people complain about megatron apologism in MTMTE and I don't necessarily disagree in that the narrative focuses a lot more on where he's going from now then what he did in the past. But the thing is that's not a megatron thing, that's just a continuation of an existing theme of healing and working to build a more positive impact, a theme established right from Issue 1 with characters like Whirl, Cyclonus, and Drift. Megatron started the war, but the fault doesn't lie entirely with him. Drift did a lot of horrific, horrific war crimes of his own violition, as did Whirl. Cyclonus skipped the war, and his agency was reduced by his relationship with Galvatron and prolonged exposure to the Dead Universe, but that doesn't mean that people just forget the fact that he massacred a lot of people. All of those characters have to work to build up positive relationships with other people and to deal with what they've done in the past while trying to do better in the future, and I think Megatron's story arc is just another note in that overarching theme. Redemption is hard. Megatron doesn't deserve it. But who does? Does Drift deserve it? Does Cyclonus, does Whirl? What about Chromedome? He helped develop mnemosurgery, he's done horrific things to the brains of prisoners who couldn't fight back. Does he deserve redemption? Ratchet saved the lives of dictators and tyrants who went on to kill massive amounts of their own people. Sunstreaker participated in a plan to kill all humans. Rodimus killed an entire city.

All the beloved characters on the Lost Light have fucked up and done horrific things, often willingly and enthusiastically. So I think if you come in with the perspective that redemption has to be earned, it's not going to be a good right, because the people who least deserve redemption are the people who need it most. Redemption isn't isn't people forgetting about the shit you did and you skipping away consequence free, but building yourself into a better person who does less harm and learns from your mistakes. It's not easy or fun or a gift.

Petra I think you have the wrong ship there :P We might have many war criminals over in DT too, but they're not canon

I'm playing a video game and listening to a podcast and reading things online all at once, and I totally misparsed this as Dead End. I corrected myself, but for a beautiful few seconds I was 200% (●♡∀♡) over that idea

And yessss, very much this post. The Necrobot even calls them out. He says 'you are all killers'. The only arguable innocents were Tailgate, Nautica, and Ten (if you start post-brain rewrite). None of them anymore! Tailgate sure spent some time bragging in detail about how awesome it was when he killed that one guy. Given how hard this story keeps rejecting moral extremes, like. I don't get how some people are missing this so hard. If even your heroes have done terrible things, it follows that even the villains have grey in them too. Where's the line for redeemable versus irredeemable? Your point about Drift was perfect. I hadn't been able to quite pin down what about his dialogue about Megatron in this issue made me uncomfortable, but that's exactly it.

This story has snagged some people with amazingly awful things in their pasts, and it consistently shows them as people and shows how they can improve. Even for the ones like Pharma who slip and fall, it's like.... the treatment of it is nuanced. Gahhhh, I love the moral complexity in this series, because there is always stuff lurking below the easy surface read. We saw Chromedome about to help lobotomize Soundwave, that was on the page. And Overlord does very little except commit atrocities, but there's an intensely rough backstory sprinkled through the stuff we see. It's all nuance! All the way down! That's what makes it good!!

As nice as this idea is, I can't believe Kaput wouldn't have accounted for this. At least, if the idea was to trap Tailgate, not just to keep him away from other people.

...Oh my god. I did not realize after Hedonia that after drinking the weapon's grade nucleon, they had to reconstruct Ultra Magnus's fuel tanks. That's...incredible...

Also Cyclonus 100% believes that if you sing louder, you are singing better. Pitch doesn't matter. Only TOP VOLUME
