that detestable fiend @coldstars tagged me in this post and it was good and hilarious but i was SLIGHTLY BOTHERED that megatron had not been cleaned up so, because i have an extremely functional brain, i obviously spent the next four hours cleaning him up and making a Scene around him with paint.net (a shitty free poor man's photoshop)

but i can't reblog the post with it obviously because larrydraws already posted her Romantic Scene

anyway this is all just to say that i didn't lovingly craft this shitty but highly romantic megatron tableau in a shitty photo editing program for four hours just to have nobody see it

thank GOD i can always focus on the really really important things.png

okay that's all, enjoy your romantic date with megatron

I went to see the new Bayformers movie and, uh. Wow.
Megatron fondling Starscream's decapitated head, complete with touching his mouth, sure was a thing that happened in canon!

    t-t-t-TRIPLE POST COMBOB

My brain glitched out in the two forum posts between [open link] and [read link] and I was like hm hm what's up okay oh no someone else thought about the scavenger thing but we had that conversation first oh nooooo so then I scrolled back to the top to see who posted, and THEN my short-term memory reasserted itself. I still haven't read the fic through, but I'm no longer hilariously fussed that someone ninja'd the post-issue-7 theorizing we did in the thread.

It is definitely more of an "oh jesus why" movie than the delightfully fucked up nature of that one short scene, but it was a hell of a thing.

.............functionist anode served literally no purpose.

like hell is the functionist universe gone forever, and therefore, like hell is megatron gone forever. every poke at this universe is full of more and more layers of wasted potential. jro plain isn't that bad at plotting. and also I'm just tearing my hair out over this entire arc, because everything is awful can people stop suffering for like two minutes while I try to recover

I was planning to put off the inevitable anguish a little longer, but I keep seeing unmarked spoilers on twitter SO...

Aww, I was hoping to see more of baby Lug. I wonder what memories she has of her previous life? Her spark was transferred into a new body, but did it recreate her brain as was at the moment of death or is she a blank slate? I mean, I'm sure that'll be revealed one way or another pretty soon but ehh.

It wouldn't be the first time Brainstorm broke the rules of nature. Even if creating parallel universes was an accident, it was still explicitly stated to be an impossibility before he did it

That podium's empty. I kind of doubt Megatron has unceremoniously been killed off offscreen, but I'm taking nothing for granted right now.

Even though it's been entirely consistent throughout the comic, I'm still kind of taken aback by how flippantly the cast makes use of corpses. Also, 20 passengers? I'm guessing that's going to be team Rodimus + Roller, Anode and Lug, no one else has really been characterised very much.

    Thank you, Nautica!

Drift... well, I can see why he's saying what he's saying. He last came into close contact with Megatron when they were both decepticons and staying on tenterhooks all the time was the only rational option around him. It's not unreasonable that he's taking that experience forward. But their time on the Lost Light didn't overlap at all, so Drift is making some big assumptions about the dynamic on the ship, where Megatron got called out pretty much uh all the time.

What, like, physically dead? Because that's been the case for kind of a while.

Oh noooo Tailgate don't start isolating yourself. He's always had a tendency to overreact and although I think this could have been a good thing under other circumstances after the whole I'm the strongest and I've got to protect everyone thing it's kind of worrying.

Oh, ok, that was an entirely overdramatic way for Minimus to say that. Also I'm glad that his character development during season 2 is finally getting recognised rather than being in the background, because he's made some really positive steps and just seems way more comfortable with himself in general. To be honest, I wouldn't mind that much if they left the Magnus Armour behind.

    Nominative determinism strikes again!

Ok so Lug does remember everything. That got answered quickly.

    nooooooo

    nooooooo

I was spoiled for this so I thought I was prepared, but I wasn't.

    I really wasn't.

    Again: nooooooo

(My OTPs, what you doing to them)

Terminus has way too much to answer for, and now Rodimus is actively trying to manipulate Magnus so that they all fall back into the same dynamics as season 1, where he could get away with doing whatever he wanted and this is all so disappointing, everyone's backsliding and I want it to stop right now.

    Please?

Rodimus, you're being an absolute dick here.

(and Drift didn't know Minimus, either. To him, this would look like Rodimus pulling Magnus out of a crisis of faith instead of forcing him to regress and agggh)

    Oh no.

    Not again.

Wait. If Tailgate wants to be depowered, why didn't he bring up fool's energon with Ratchet? I mean we know it's a placebo, but he doesn't, and it would mean he's talking to the guy who's brought him back from the brink of death twice rather than someone he barely knows.

    Oh no.

    Oh no.

That can't actually be the end. Everyone's regressed, it's like all the positive development for everyone during season 2 never happened, Magnus is back to being a joke, Tailgates stuck back down a hole for millions of years, Cyclonus is wracked with guilt, Drift has stepped right back into his old role as yes man - and I guess Anode's happy? But even then in bringing Lug back she's retreating into the past.

Like, I doubt any of this is going to be permanent but it's definitely going to be the status quo for a while and I think it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Now to actually catch up with the rest of the thread

Gotta love how each flower represents the death records of multiple individual mechs, and even once he knows that, Kaput just goes rolling merrily on off through the fields, tossing up petals in his unicycle wake.

I mean, there's no other way to navigate this planet, but this is hilarious to me

I'm just imagining him starting with the flowers, laying them out in random distribution around the statues. And at first it's mostly manageable, but then the war escalates and starts to get away from him, and one day he looks around and is just like '...........FUCK.'

By the way, we haven't gotten any information on who DC-357 is in the TAAO comics, have we? That's the mysterious informant who'd been passing along info that Swindle was alive, and who left the badgeless uniform in the dumpster. I'd been assuming it was Rattrap, but now I'm thinking that I didn't actually see anything about that on the page, and he seemed surprised when people came looking for Swindle. Unless I'm totally forgetting some little detail. But I'm trying to flip through who the significant players are, and I'm striking out on who this is likely to be.

So I've geared up and gotten into phase 2. I'm really impressed with it. James Roberts in particular really is a very good writer, and specifically good in the medium he's using. (I'm sure most people here already have an opinion on that.)

First few episodes of MTMTE. Minor spoilers, big images and a few scattered thoughts.

Just. Look at how much work this one panel is doing:

It's one panel with a few short sentences of text. And it tells you so much about who these characters are, what they're doing and why, and how they relate to each other. Everything is just so competent. Which sounds like faint praise, but I don't mean it faintly at all.

The warning at the beginning of the first issue about things not to do, lest disaster happen, is a really simple story hook but it's incredibly effective. (Also snerk at using the name Delphi in a prophetic warning.)

I'm actually pretty shocked at how easy this all is to follow. I mean, it helps a lot that I have honed my robot skills on phase 1. But I am not actually needing to consult the wiki most of the time to figure out what the fuck is ever happening on the page. Even the action scene art is pretty easy to follow, and I have a known issue with visuospatial shit. I still have to skim the wiki because I'm a bit hit or miss on even really obvious visual cues. But even then, in retrospect I can see why it was obvious. And the art and the dialogue tend to work really well together to provide things like foreshadowing and thematic consistency so when something crazy happens, you can actually parse it.

Also the story is working really well with the characters. It's like the panel above, doing a lot of work in a small space.

    This page:

This is an exciting action scene introducing plot elements. It's also making a great joke, further developing the tension between Ratchet and Drift, providing characterization for Drift, and building context for Drift's behavior in the resolution of this subplot. Most people are just not that fucking dedicated to slicing, even for a good cause.

That's all I had to say that's serious.

This just made me laugh because I've also been reading a hell of a lot of philosophy over the past few days:

Okay Ultra Magnus, but only if you promise we can equally scrutinize areas of synchronic ambiguity. I'm too postmodern for your bullshit.
