does anyone know when Peace Talks is coming out? bc that was supposed to come out this year, but then the date changed to "???"
I refuse to believe that isn't canon. Old fairy lady domestic kismesitude. In related news, totally going to wear my half-assed f!Harry costume to work today, minus staff because 6 feet of solid maple is heavy. With this shirt, because while Harry can't read webcomics, he would totally want that shirt if he knew about it.
@thegrimsqueaker I imagine the delay is cause of the new series he started, The Cinder Spires. His websites DOES say he's going to be working on Peace Talks before he goes for a book 2 in the new series, though, so that's at least comforting ;P
Mother Summer is just so... used to Mother Winter's dramatics. Spoiler: spoip Oh dear, you dragged the destined wizard from a graveyard from when he tried to summon you, didn't you? Hush now, it's alright, I'll talk to him, here's something for a pain. Oh I know you won't take any but that doesn't mean I won't try.
the Mothers are so badass. Mother Winter is like Granny Weatherwax squared and the awesome is just perf
[BANGS FISTS ON TABLE] HELLO EVERYBODY IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE ANYONE POSTED HERE BUT I AM UNACCOUNTABLY EXCITED ABOUT THE DRESDEN FILES AND WISH TO SHARE THAT EXCITEMENT man, I. I don't even fucking know. someone gave me Jim Butcher's most recent book, The Aeronaut's Windlass, which was good and also had GOOD LADY CHARACTERS (!!!) and I read it and was like, "oh, it's a series, has he written any other books yet?" and I discovered he had not, but he had written this other series, and I remembered @Mercury having blogged favorably about it, and as they have good taste I was like, "aight, I'mma try this." and then. and then I tore through the whole thing in like a week. fake edit: my browser history informs me that it was, in fact, a week, at a rate of about two and a half books a day once I hit my stride, and, um. how long are they, actually? 'cause I read them online, but I'm pretty sure that's an impressive page count, and my usual rate is about 100 paperback pages an hour, which is to say I spent a lot of hours. I don't think I've gone on a bender than impressive since I read the entirety of Fullmetal Alchemist in under a week. well, I read Homestuck fast too, but that is an undertaking of a different scale. GOD. AND IT'S NOT EVEN? THAT GOOD??? I mean, it isn't anything groundbreaking, and I continue to be intensely annoyed with how clearly good-and-evil the Faerie Courts are, and "fuego" annoys me on a spiritual level, as does the fake Latin (the real Latin is not infallible either; "Venatori Umbrorum is commonly interpreted as 'Knights of Shadows'" my ass, that's what it fucking means, genitives don't fuck around), and that chivalry crap in the early books was annoying as hell, but. Harry Dresden, you guys. he's a giant fucking nerd who goes around in a Matrix duster and I love him so much. I just. what a guy. his voice is great and his burns are not nearly as sick as he thinks they are and he's so kind. like he's this six-and-half-foot tall badass who fireballs the shit out of things and he, like. stops to help lost children he is such a delicate flower and he never acknowledges it I have many more things to say, but in the interest of not producing walls of text, I shall close with this: @peripheral, you have excellent fucking taste in ships, high-five.
Just want to point out that the fake latin is deliberate—spells have to be semi-meaningless so that it doesn't burn your brain. (See: flicum bicus) But thank you! My ships are excellent.
The stupid fake latin is part and parcel of Harry's coolness and sick burns being a little less great than he likes to believe they are, yeah. And, yeah, there's so many grating things about this series but it's fun in a way that's great to read at least once. I'll gladly gobble up fic that asks done what if not this. Spoiler: Late series spoilers I appreciate the Winter as necessary evil for preventing the infinite spread of Summer and the encroachment of the Outsiders. The imagery of the battlefield at the edge of existence, where the only ground to stand on is made of the remains of the dead, where everyone with the skills to fight works together against the common foe that must be kept secret else the world be weakened further.... it really sets the tone of a lot of the later books. Terrible things that they think are better than the alternatives and a sense of inevitable decay, interrupted occasionally by unexpected hope like a fucking lightsaber in the hands of a great nerd. If Murphy's Law could get off Murphy's ass do she can have some kind of triumph, I'd love that. EDIT TO ADD Things I do NOT like about Winter, its use as a narrative excuse for Harry to get guilty boners to feel awkward about all the time these days. The HURRMPH AM CAVE MAN MUST FUCK THE FE-MALES PROVE MY STRENGTH boners get tedious.
the fairy courts get FUN later in the series, trust me but yes good this is a good series and deserves more fans
Yes. Though if Harry could please learn to stop describing every female character first and foremost by how hot he thinks they are, that would be nice.
truth right there also: has anyone read side jobs and if so, did the villainess from the "mac's beer is poisoned oh no" story make you think that "wow, jim butcher ran out of character designs" because she was a Tall Black-Haired Sexy Villain we've got a lot of those
HARRY NEEDS TO STOP AND CHILL THE FUCK OUT BUT ALSO THESE BOOKS!!! also has anyone read codex alera do we have a thread for that
At this point ive decided something happened to cross the wires between sex and power in Harry's head when he was a kid. That's not the mantle, that's him. Also hes obviously bi and overcompensating.
