In other news, two things. First, I finished the Trespasser epilogue and am officially done with all three dragon age games! Yay! Second, I was discussing the game with my brother and accidentally referred to Solas as Sollux. Homestuck is still taking over my life.
Trespasser finale Berit is having a bad/explosive enough day to justify using the Tower as reference for her tarot card!
The Tower is also Ren's (my Inq's) tarot card! Though not so much because she experiences cataclysmic upheaval, but because she is about to unleash it upon Thedas. She is the lightning striking the tower (which works so well since she's spec'd deep into the storm/lightning skill tree). The Tower is probably my favorite card :33
It also works for Berit in that the end of Trespasser is what finally breaks her polite-and-accommodating facade and after two and a half games of that she gets to hit the "could one thing in this fucking world stay fixed!!" beat :3
in Inquisition, deep mushrooms seem to grow out of petrified giant spiders and its awful and i can't believe it took me this long to notice
Yep, the other reason Ren is the tower is that Everything she thought she knew and believed in has crumbled. The Inquisition is no more, her gods are lies, her dear friend and mentor is trying to literally destroy the world, her relationships--both with her friends and her now husband--are falling apart Spoiler: gifs to illustrate my ink's headspace She's got nothing but her own power and her determination but by the fake gods, she is going to use them to make the world better.
My tarot knowledge is basically limited to the major arcana. I'd be interested to hear you elaborate!
Oh man, I was tempted to use two of swords for Berit too (bc of the repression/avoidance aspect) but I already used it for that non-DA card I drew of Reed and I didn't want to betray their similarities TOO much :P
I played Origins and I'm still sad Morrigan was 'straight'. On DA2 and not sure who to romance first, though might be Anders.
@Charlie yeah i was sad about Morrigan too, but then Zev showed up and I was basically, this bisexual elf is my husband now. But yeah, Origins definitely has the feeling of "straight as default" that the other games manage to mostly avoid. As for DA2 romances, they're all bi/pan which I like, if if you're going to play multiple genders ever, I recommend saving the anders romance for a dude!hawke. There are a number of differences and it's rather unfortunate that Fem!Hawke really gets the inferior romance. Similarly, I find romancing Merrill and Rival!Mancing Bela with dude!Hawke to feel uncomfortable. If your like me and will only ever play girl-iding characters, I recommend finding the mod that puts the M!Hawke dialog back into F!Hawke's Anders romance.
I just wanna know why all the Good and Upstanding Chantry companions are always straight. (Leliana's a filthy rogue with a sketchy past so I guess she doesn't count.) (But then Sebastian is ALSO a rogue with a sketchy past but I guess he was more of the 'fun loving rich kid who then Found Jesus' sort) (Forever mad about Cass not being bi and bi Cullen being jettisoned because Reasons I guess)
honestly i know it's hashtagproblematic, but i love that DA2 just had everyone be bi. you can romance whoever you want, regardless of your Hawke's gender, and it makes my bi-as-fuck heart happy. the fact that Cass AND Cullen were supposed to be bi annoys the shit out of me, too. the explanation i heard was they "ran out of time" and made them straight to save time, but in that case CLEARLY Bioware does not have their priorities in order.
I've heard (though I have no way on confirming because this was apparently said on the bioware forums, which have been nuked) that the modeler in charge of Cullen's male romance was a couple days short of a deadline, which is why it was cut, since Cullen and Solas were bonus romances in the first place. He was apparently super apologetic about it on the forums. On the other hand, the fact that both of them had their m/f romances prioritized in the deadlines over Cullen's m/m romance is pretty :/ and I really desperately want a bi companion that has all the romanticized fairy tale trappings to them.
Spoiler: nsfw spoilers for Cullen's romance also in my opinion Cullen has the hottest sex scene in Inquisition. i'm a sucker for the "sweep my desk clear and nail you across it" trope, and it makes me sad that it's gender- and race-restricted.
i did a new and fancier version of my tarot card! it matches the style better, i think :3 Spoiler: big
I thiiiink Helios's post-Trespasser card would be Death, but I can't tell how much of that is the actual narrative aspects of change and renewal (he lost an arm but technically gained freedom from all obligations and political machinations for the first time since he showed that he had magic!) and how much of it is because I really want to draw him astride a halla in black Keeper robes.
as I understand it - Two of Swords represents caution, stalemates, the calm before the storm and uneasy balances. Which is pretty much perfect for a Lavellan mage who really doesn't want to be here, who's doing her best to keep her feet and do the right thing.
plus the traditional imagery of Two of Swords is... a lady, in front of a brewing storm, holding two swords crossed in front of her, which is very easily translated to 'inquisitor razeia lavellan in front of a storm/the Breach holding a Knight Enchanter sword and staff.'
are there any mods to get a Dalish bed or throne? somehow the Dalish banners, drapes, heraldic symbolism, custom stained glass windows, and obscenely Dalish armor that my Inquisitor wears doesn't get the message across. so, idk, maybe a giant tree-shaped throne, or similar? (really I mostly want art, I don't think anyone has modded in such things.) eta: ....i forgot that i brought up this very thing like 50 pages ago, geez. i still want it tho.
