Before I was able to build my life with my brother and his wife and our lovers and family, and even after that, before Fiddleford and Tacey died, before I met Lissa." He swallows; it's not normal for him to Feelings this much with anyone but Lissa or occasionally Stan, though if he goes on too long with Stan he gets punched in the arm and teased till he smiles. "I can't..." He searches for a word that probably doesn't exist. Oh, there it is: but it's in some eldritch language he doesn't want to use in the Rave, where reality is so malleable.

"I can't, with normal people, even. The normal monsters, even worse. At least the weird ones are interesting."

He's so glad the guy in red with the stick up his ass isn't here; he can't grammar right now.

I'm already in enough debt to my brother that ten lifetimes couldn't repay." Ford kisses the top of her head. "And don't you go getting ideas. Defence only. Otherwise the voices slip back in, and I won't have you haunt-ridden on my account."
