"Courinna?" Ford raises an eyebrow. "Does that mean something in your local Talassani dialect or is it actually Coorinna, like a thylacine? I'm really going to be upset about the fall of Pennarion if you tell me there were thylacines there."

 

There weren't. Now there are. Our Ford's made it his project to save them, though I don't know how that started; I was away at the time and probably the third thing he said to me was "did you see any thylacines?" -she laughs fondly-

Since most of us have been hunted, pushed out of our homes, and various other endangerments and near-extinctions Vali thought it was fitting.

 

Ford perks up noticeably, even more so than the effects of his 'medicine' would account for. "That's wonderful," he says, wide-eyed. "That's the best thing anyone's ever told me about him. I know he managed to stop the fall of Pennarion, but it's not like he did that alone. I also gather your Valiska's older than my Lissy-cat."

 

-she nods- I'm not sure by how much though. I'm better at guessing life stage than actual ages; I grew up around way too many species that looked mostly human but all aged at widely different rates. And some find it rude to ask, rather than being proud you've survived that long.

 

"They made us at the same time but they implanted her first and she ended up in a different dimension from me, obviously. Her mother turned the rest of us in to the Station when she came back. I heard the Tisselen was furious." Lissa shrugs. "So in lived time, she started out five years ahead of us. But I promise I wasn't sixteen when my Stanford seduced me. At least I don't think so. Time's funny on the station, but my body was more mature than that when I left. We're just small."

 

"You better not have been sixteen when you came to my house, little miss." Stan grins. "I would have whupped his beanpole ass for that, life or death situation or no, especially after you started throwing up every morning." Stan sits down. "I remember when you used to act like my wife was your mamma though." His smile is very fond.

 

-Age. She could talk about age.-

I'm five.

 

"Five what, that's the question." Ford smiles at her lazily. "And you are?"

 

Years, of course. I'm...

-She hesitates slightly at giving her full name out here. She still doesn't know where here is. And she doesn't feel like she's in danger, but... she doesn't think these people are from the Ghost Kingdom. In the end, she just gives her nickname.-

I'm Naft. And you?

 

"Ford Pines. My wife, Lissa, my brother Stan--" he indicates each of them-- "and my grandniblings are somewhere around here too, but I don't see them right now." He isn't about to give more than a nickname for any of them to an alien--or possibly a faerie, even a demon--that he doesn't know.

 

I noticed. I have to lean down if I want to use Vali as an armrest. Not that she'd let me, or that I'd dare. -she laughs again, immensely fond- That's what Ford's for. It's easy to get his attention when he's busy that way; not a lot of people are just going to start reading on top of his head. And if I get more than three pages in then I'm going to haul him bodily out of the chair and the household may find it amusing but he won't.

Well, after the fact he will. But not while I'm doing it. -that's not a fond laugh it's a goddamn evil cackle-

 

"I'm Ford's chin-rest, sometimes," says Lissa. "But he's my pillow kind of a lot."

 

Stan laughs. "People who say you'll sleep with anyone get punched, because that's a goddamn lie. People who say you'll sleep on anyone are almost correct. You only sleep on people you like. But Ford definitely gets the brunt of that job, and the two of you are adorable, kitten."

 

Oh. Do you have any kids?

-She winds a hand through one of her curls.-

 

"We have a daughter but she's travelling," says Lissa, very quietly, and looks as if she's genuinely worried for the first time in the Rave...oh, at least since she saw Jordi getting Marcus drunk. And this time she looks a lot more worried, and Ford just hugs her tight.

 

Oh! Good for you!

-She grins, flashing blue-tinted teeth.-

 

I sadly miss out on the chin-rest experience. But I'm gonna lay on all of the people until they kick me off. -she catsmiles with her eyes, already a reflex again now that she's home and around Vali doing it-

 

Ford grins. "You know that might even work on me. I have a reputation to maintain outside the house. I'm the Warlock of the Falls, they say. But inside the house I'm as big of a goof as I want to be, around my Nest."

 

Lissa catsmiles back. "You should do that. It's fun."

 

"I would like to have more children. Someday." Lissa sighs, and then she frowns, and her ears droop. "But the doctor and the veterinarian both say I can't do it with Ford. Or anyone else who's related to Ford. There's something in his blood that's not in mine, and there's not any catte blood on Earth to use to make a fix for it."
