Is this a thing? have I transferred all my anxiety to him? That's mean on my part if so.

 

"I'm pretty sure it's all his own anxiety. He just cares about you," Lissa says, and brushes her cheek against his. "I mean. Really. Jordi is always talking about what a hard motherfucker he is but he loves you. And if he hasn't been in love before, and he knows you've got four little kits in there, that are gonna have to come out somehow, he's got to be worried. You don't know how much you need something you've never had till you get it, and then the idea of risking it at all makes you crazy." She sighs. "He'll probably love the kits just as much, once he realises you're going to be fine. One could hope that he might stop talking about using people's spouses and kids as 'collateral' even if he doesn't actually plan to hurt them, now that he knows how it feels. But he's Jordi, so that's probably too much to hope for."

 

*Return cheek rub* Yeah, a little too much to hope for. I mean, he has gotten a lot better. From what I've divined out from his past... Jordi struggled for everything and when I met him before I was a cat he was so absolutely alien to me and clearly a messed up guy... I don't know, there's something about seeing a guy interact with something truly defenseless like an animal that shows you what they could be. Even if that cat was me... I mean, nearly killed me when I turned human the first time... *Snicker-laughs*

Then when I offered to leave he got sad and then got angry when I pointed it out. He tries, he just really doesn't understand normal social norms very well.

 

Lissa nods. "Yeah, you told me that he can get away with the slavery joke even if nobody else can." She sighs, and blinks at Marcus. "That blows, poor guy."

 

*Nods and face-rubs again because there's always for that* I feel bad but I'd never tell him, he'd get upset.

 

"Yeah I wouldn't either." Lissa sighs. "It's not safe to be seen as weak...and he doesn't get that we know better. I had a shit childhood too."

 

Honestly I apparently had a great childhood comparatively! Only thing I came out of that with was a fear of being praised too much.

 

"That's good for your kits though. They learn to be people from you. You have to look at them a lot and sing them the songs so they know they should stay with you."

 

*Haku has to take a long moment to consider this. He keeps thinking of replies and then thinking better of them. At last, he settles on:*

Mm... strictly speaking, this isn't an afterlife, just somewhere easily accessible from them. I'm quite alive at the moment, just... suited to that sort of travel, so to speak! Do you remember anything of your own afterlife before coming here?
