I mean, I'm not looking at it like it's some awful thing. Surprising, but you can be jealous all you want because you deserve to be a little jealous.

 

"No, you don't seem like you think it's awful," Lissa says, wiping her eyes. "But I'm not sure how I deserve to be jealous? What I deserve to be is pregnant." She sighs. "My sister is, too. She thinks there are two. There were three in my dreams, though."

 

I mean, you're not being allowed to have what you want? You can be jealous of people who can have it, so long as you don't feed that shit and let it fester. Being open is good. *hugs her again* I like you a lot, Lissa, you're a good person and deserve whatever you want.

 

"Thanks," Lissa says, and leans against Marcus. "I like you too. And I'm going to fuss over your kits, so be prepared for that."

 

Good, because I'm sure they'll love being fussed over by their aunt.

 

*Haku doesn't look particularly pretty at the moment. His clothes are rumpled like he slept in them, his hair's been unpinned from its neat bun and is falling raggedly down his back, and his nails are painted a brilliant red, which looks a little bit terrible against his green and brown outfit.

He leans against a wall with a bleary expression.*

 

Not a booze person, huh?

 

I didn't have a lot of practice. *He winces at the sound of his own croaky voice.* This is hell. This is actually my personal hell.

 

You sound like that time I broke into Batman's liquor cabinet. Well. The first time, anyway. What'd'ya feed sick people where you're from? That'll probably help.

 

You got better or you died. *He slides down the wall slowly and puts his face in his knees. Muffled:* Water might be nice, though.

 

What, no... Tea? Soup? Congee? That's shit. Water's good, but you want something with salt, too, or you'll feel worse.
-he concentrates and produces a glass of water and a banana, already halfway peeled-
Won't be offended if you don't take it, but it should get you started.

 

*It would still be rude to not accept, so Haku manages to get his face out of his nice, comfortable knees long enough to accept the food and water. He drinks greedily, and then looks down at the banana, vaguely curious.* They had these in central water country, but I never tasted one. *He takes about two bites, then puts his face back in his knees.*

 

-Jason thinks a little more, and a bubble of shadow that blocks out most of the ambient light in the rave appears-
Drink some more water and have a nap, kid. Although - I can't just keep calling you kid. What do you go by?

 

*He picks his head up at that.* Haku, my name's Haku. Thank you.

 

You can call me Red Hood. Take it easy next time, huh?

 

"Gonna hold you to that," Lissa says, pressing her forehead to Marcus' for a moment, before rubbing his cheek with hers and settling back down.

After a little while, she sleeps, and wakes to hear the boy tell them his name.

"Hello, Haku. My name's Lissa Pines. I've been distracted, because my friend had some news that was pretty startling, but...I'm starting to think we have similar histories, maybe?"

 

Pleased to meet you, Red Hood and Lissa Pines. *He tries standing up so he can bow properly but his vision starts to darken at the edges and he slides right back down the wall.* Sorry.

*He looks sidelong at Lissa, still wary, especially in an impaired state.* Maybe, if you like, you could tell me your history, and then I could tell you mine.

 

"Crazy assassin death cult? That's the short version," says Lissa. "All that stuff about usefulness and whatnot." She shrugs. "Have you ever considered doing something fun with your life, instead?"

 

My father killed my mother and I killed him. I would've starved or froze to death but someone took me in. To repay the kindness, I became his best weapon. That's the short version. *His voice is flat and even, like he's told this story so many times it barely bothers him anymore. He puts his head back on his knees.* I'm dead, anyway, and it doesn't matter what I do.

 

Lissa shrugs. "This is a dream realm. Either you're a ghost, or you're alive somewhere. Here or wherever, you deserve to be more than somebody's tool."
