Boat Trolls planning thread! (full of spoilers, non-players enter at your own risk)

ok sleep good when you do! and think up some kind of token bel would give erskin that he'd actually wear— he doesn't like having flashy metals and jewels on him, since they make it hard to hide, so he'd eventually chew off anything too shiny. i guess that could be a game they played, but it seems like it'd hurt bel's feelings and defeat the point of a quadrant token.

 

yeah, something like that! i hadn't thought of lapis, but it's the right color. earrings on erskin would have to be rings, the idea of dangly- or stud/post earrings in moveable fin kinda makes me wince.

maybe a chunk of rough, raw sapphire? set into a leather or rope bracelet or choker? maybe an 'insultingly' shitty, rough, impure cut of sapphire, that could be funny. erskin wouldn't wear priceless jewels and gold but he'd like a little blue-grey chunk of rock.

tossing ideas out: seaglass, a round bluish river rock, the same rock but with a hole in it, a scrap of blue fabric, a lapis bead, a lapis bead on an earring, a crummy sapphire chunk with a spade scratched in, maybe the storm thorns are blue or yield a blue fiber.

maybe bel DOES get him a really nice bracelet or something but it flips over and has a dull side.

 

surprise is fine! though as a player i think tattoos and scarifications are a really dumb idea and they probably shouldn't. plus i think galley would be kinda hurt, and erskin would mean for galley to be hurt, and that's more unpleasant than hot.

oh so, a plot suggestion— maybe back a day or two, clarke came by to check up on erskin's leg, then borrowed jethro for a hate date?

also, i think it would be cute if the quadrant token erskin gave to jethro was like, a tracking device. maybe a chip stuck in his prosthetic or something? it'd be a pretty intense declaration of trust— that jethro won't misuse it, but also that jethro will be able to defend himself from anyone wanting to take it. or would jethro not like that?

pats pats! what we know of the summoner and sufferer's rebellion gets relayed to us, if i remember correctly, through two biased and loathsome sources: mindfang's bullshit journal (moral: my life is such a cool adventure), and a lecture doc scratch gave little damara (moral: rebellion doesn't pay, kiddo). i think hussie might have related a bit about the empress and her actions in relation to the Game.

aside from that, alternian history is, so far, a huge blank. some stuff's been extrapolated (the empress' spacefaring empire has lasted way longer than recorded human history) i have a few favorite headcanons (warring citystate-hivedelling prototrolls!) and we might get a more solid picture when hiveswap comes out. we know even less about beforus.

we don't even know how many centuries or millennia after the summoner's rebellion that the game playing kids were hatched: i just realized, we could legit set the boat troll's lives thousands of years before then, significantly closer to the expulsion of the adults and/or a period of history in which alternate dialects and linguistic systems were still accessible to kids if they really dug for it.

 

another plot idea: bel has started up on his nineth-sweep sub-adult growthspurt and they don't notice till he gets back home and pancho and galley are like 'whoah there' and bel is like 'oh ok that's why i've been so hungry and clumsy' and erskin is deeply irritated that bel's hilarious dropping-things stage is going to pay off with another foot of height advantage
