Different standards for manga/anime maybe? That dollmaker tends more toward moe but it's not so over the top that I can't read it as adult. On the other hand I've played frankly entirely too much Love Live to have standards anymore. :')

 

Undoubtedly. I read a lot of shoujo manga and the adult or even high school age male characters all look older than that. If I was going to do an adult male character in anime style we'd be talking more like this:

 

Generational thing then. Modern shojo is trending more towards that dollmaker style, and shonen's been there for a while.
