thread to scream about iron fist!! i for one honestly loved that show and want to share my copious amounts of headcanons and thoughts on it!

i really loved how they portrayed danny's PTSD, the cinematography for it was phenomenal and SUPER cool (additionally i love how they show his social ineptitude and how he's clumsy as he tries to work his way back into society)

My main take away is: there need to more broke/middle class super heroes. I am getting bored of rich white dudes in costumes. i loved the first half of the season, yeah pacing could have been better. I am also curious as to why heroes are venues to tell stories about PTSD and trauma. I noticed this trend in action, sci fi, and fantasy shows. Is there an element of removal that allows us to see heroes as people with PTSD that contain heroic traits and more relatable than a middle class guy or gal displaying similar symptoms due to shitty pasts and traumas slowly healing.

...in addition to being autistic I was a sociology major. Sometimes I like to turn that section of my brain on, check that the lights still work :wordswords:.

I love that Danny Rand has an ancient MP3 player he has kept working, that was likely made before the plane crash. That is relatable as someone who grew up middle class. How did he get batteries in Khung-lan? Did he get batteries in Khung-lan? That probably required serious effort. I loved that his friend who owns the dojo is supportive but not enabling. I am not going to spell the fantasy Mystical Tibet before occupation's name right without some help and practice.

Also I just started watching defenders which looks binge worthy and features the fister. I will have to make a thread for the show once I am further in.

(psst, we've been talking about The Defenders in the MCU Netflix thread!)

my impression is that, in recent years, there's been increasing recognition that the kind of violence and tragic backstories that heroes have traditionally faced would actually really mess a person up and so media has been trying to explore the consequences of that.

anyway i'll olly back out of this thread until i actually get around to watching Iron Fist. i read The Immortal Iron Fist and really liked it, so i want to give it a chance, but i'm Bad at keeping up with tv.

god you and me both dude. i do like though that, the other defenders are middle class/lower and (while i wont go into detail bc spoilers) they bring similar issues up when luke and danny talk!

Gosh yeah, I feel that so hard. It was a REALLY nice touch, adding it in, and it really gives a big emphasis on him still being attached to his past life by how he holds onto it and doesn't let it go. (I take it to be something similar to Peter in GOTG and his own walkman/mp3 or whatever the fuck he had.)

I adore how they wrote Colleen and Danny's initial interactions, on both sides. (Honestly Colleen is amazing and I adore her) She doesn't know him, so she tolerates him to a point, and doesn't take any of his shit. Danny respects her right to do that, because it's her dojo and she's the head of it, even if he disagrees with her teaching methods.

And I think it's K'un-Lun? At the very least that's what they used on the wiki ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, I get that feel a lot. I think it's good they're portraying accurate trauma responses to traumatic experiences instead of acting like the heros are perfectly fine.

The Pinyin is Kunlun, Wade-Giles (Which is awful and no one should use it) is K'un-lun. It's also apparently mispronounced in the show.

    Simplified Chinese: 昆仑
    Traditional Chinese: 崑崙

oooooooh! I'm not sure which way of spelling they use in the show (I wasn't exactly paying attention to the subtitles haha) and it really sucks they might be mispronouncing it :(.

Yeah...it's unfortunately a common problem with shows and films that use other languages besides English. So I'm not surprised but it still sucks.

(They write "K'un Lun" in the subtitles (in the defenders at least) and pronounce it with both syllables rhyming with "gun.")
