Animal Sightings

Forgot to post yesterday because I crashed once I came home but! I saw two doggos while I was out!

One was being taken walkies and crossing the intersection opposite where we were stopped. A cute little black miniature poodle who did the Dog Show Prance everywhere.

The other was in the coffee shop and was very chill. They were kind of big but not huge and pale cinnamon and white. I think they were kinda old? They had a kinda short tail with white rings which was cool! They laid down on the floor all pancake while their owner was ordering which was really cute.

 

Im at a food festival and there are various doggos :3

named jax or jacks i think? He sninf other coworker's child he also VERY snif other other coworker's dog ivy. Intense sniffing not pictured, but here's ivy again. Iverson why are u on the bench. Are you going to play rover, because i'm really bad at it so you could give it a shot (her name isnt iverson, i just say that because she is a cute and good dog who inspires nicknames)

Also! Today after food fest thing, i not only saw more dogs, and a cat in someones backyard, but i stopped by some flowers where my family and i saw many bees last summer while in town :3

Saw a beaver and a black cat on my walk through town tonight. They both ran off when they saw me so I couldn't get pictures.

 

I have heard that bumbles raise their middle legs if threatened or startled, but i dunno if that was what she was doing, or if that's true

The new (??) next door neighbors seem to have a black lab mix and a tabby and white cat!

 

A pillbug got in the house so I picked it up to let it outside, and I think it started chewing on me? It crawled on my finger and sort of hunkered down in one spot, and I could feel a weird pressure. No pain, but a definite something. I know these guys will eat just about anything they can, so I guess it makes sense for it to investigate new material by trying to eat it.

They seem to actually have individual personalities. Most of the roly polys won't crawl on my hand at all, and some will roll into a ball pretty much instantly. This one was very active and curious!

Fun fact: Since roly polys/pillbugs/pill isopods are crustaceans, they require liquid water to reproduce. But! Female pillbugs carry their young in a special pouch, and the babies emerge as self sufficient tiny adults. How do they do this without liquid water? They carry a water droplet with them in their pouch, and lay their eggs into it! I couldn't find any information about what the eggs hatch into, but maybe a larval stage that then eventually morphs into the final baby pillbug? It's a really neat solution to reproducing outside the ocean that I'd never heard of before!

The neighbourhood kids found a painted turtle. Dad is currently helping them take it back to the creek (i.e., the only way of making sure they don't do something daft/dangerous to try and help it.)

 

I saw a very large white floofdog on the way to work. I resisted the urge to bother the floof, because there was a large crowd and I figured the floof did not need any further strangers up in its personal space, but it looked highly pettable.

Also saw a bunch of pictures of people's dogs and cats while doing work-related Facebook stalking, but that doesn't count.

 

A flock of about 8 or so turkeys has been wandering the neighborhood and they were in our front yard yesterday. They moved off before i could find a camera, but they'll no doubt be back. There's lots of scattered chick feed for them to clean up.

 

Saw a big ol' brindly dog outside my window. She had on a harness, but no collar. I went out to see if she belonged to someone who was outside, but there was no sign of her by the time I went out to look. I hope she'd just wandered away from her house and went back quickly.

 

there was a dude on the streetcorner near where i work playing a sick solo on a recorder. sounded awesome. even more awesome was the big fluffy black cat he had with him, chilling on a leash

 

Went on a walk on a walking trail, saw several doggos including a pair of black+white floofers who i met twice as we were going opposite directions around the trail

 

I went down to the mailbox when I got home yesterday and on my way back up to the house I noticed a lil mouse friend chillin under my car
no good photos, bc he was nearly the same color as the pavement, but. so smol. Like, maybe three inches long including tail, albeit fully-furred.

 

The other day I was walking down the neighborhood home from work and I heard some bird calls and then a chattering that sounded really weird. So I looked up and, splayed atop a power line pole with its tail spilling down one side, was a big ol grey squirrel staring at me. Dude, I'm just walkin through, you don't need to chatter at me :P

We have a doggo who is excellent but is not a cat and doesn't get on with cats so well, so I go by the local petsmart, where they are partnered with a shelter to get kitties (and birds, and bunnies, and on one occasion, betta fish) adopted out, and pet the cats who are there for adoption. It does my soul good. There is a beautiful pair who if I had the space and the cash would be living with me now, a long-haired tortie and a short-haired black kitty. They've been there a while and I am desirous of these cats. They had three new cats in today, and I got one of them to sit in my lap!

Also saw four dogs being trained as service dogs at the farmer's market. They apparently love bringing them out there because it's an environment with lots of distractions (other dogs, tasty smells, many people walking around) so it's good for training them?

 

Recent Gobi the neighbor's cat activity:

• I heard jingling and called and he appeared! Rolled over and looked at me with his crossed eyes for a bit, purred, then left.
• The next day, I met him on my way to school and was late for teaching because I stopped to pet him and missed a train.

 

Saw a couple dogs at a thing where a pet food donation was being made, they had them there for photo ops and one of the bags tore so the one worker was getting one of the dogs to eat food from her hand for photos/reassurance/snacks. I got to pet the dog whose name is Chloe, she was nervous because of the people :(

I dont know the other dogs name but he was also excited because people! smells! food!

Then after habging out with friends aat a restaurant i was walking back to my car, i spotted a dog waiting at the Dog Leaving Spot outside the gelato place because the owner was inside, getting tasty gelato.

On sunday I went for a long walk on some park trails and got yelled at by either a chipmunk or a squirrel, and saw several dogs (edit: which i already posted about, oops)

On wednesday i went for a walk in another part of the city and spotted 3 cats, one of whom i didnt take a pic of for whatever reason
