Fishin' in the stream of consciousness (all-purpose, no topic chat thread)

I only ever had the vhs, it was my favorite princess movie. Lil me thought maleficent was gorgeous and the thorny castle was beautiful so i wanted to watch it over and over til the tape broke

 

One of my old favorite VHS tapes (Wayne's World) has a public service announcement type thing at the beginning that asks if you know what AIDS and HIV are. By the time I was old enough to watch the movie, the tape was years old and the message seemed incredibly hokey and unnecessary. Everybody knew what AIDS was. It was just a fact about reality.

In retrospect, knowing a little bit more about the struggle that went into AIDS awareness, it seems way less ridiculous. I think the red ribbon campaign happened in '91. Jeremy Irons hosted the Tony awards that year wearing a red ribbon, a huge landmark in awareness. Wayne's World was released in early '92. I'm not sure when they released the cassette, but probably while AIDS awareness was still not a guaranteed thing.

The message seemed dated because they succeeded. In the words of my sister, "Hopefully most PSAs will be laughed at for being unnecessary in the future."

Mad, if belated, respect.

ETA: Upon further inspection, this cassette seems to have been purchased at a McDonald's during a 1993 promotion for the upcoming sequel. In a little over two years we went from the first celebrity reportedly appearing on screen wearing a red ribbon to educational announcements distributed via McDonald's. That's amazing.

Guess Hussie was inspired by Voltron for the Alternian aesthetic. Which in turn apparently inspired (at least in part there's clearly some Transformers: Prime decepticon aesthetic in the new Galra Empire style too) the rebooted Voltron. Incredible.

 

One more hour of work, blarggg

 

And now the show that I was under the impression was closing early is NOT closing early. So I have to stand here for an hour before we can pack up and leave. Fuck this.

At least I've had one hour of break time since I got off work.

 

Someone smeared half a cookie onto a tree in front of the town library. It's about 5 feet up at least, so it wasn't a little kid. I have so many questions.

 

Reminds me of the gum tree we had at my college. Everyone stuck their gum to it, it was just the thing to do. You could almost not see any trunk anymore

im getting con crud, i can feel the pressure in my head already, but i just drank coffee which is giving me a strange reaction. i'm. suddenly really cuddly?? and love everything and every one? i feel like one of those giant, old floofy cats that only want sun, snacks, and copious amounts of petting from anything with an hour and a half to spare only for petting. i know i'll feel more icky later but right now its like being in some relaxing, slowed down version of the world and everything is great. i wish i could bottle this feeling. just. y'know without the obviously "i will feel sicker later" part.

 

I think slight mood elevation is a possible effect of caffeine. I've found that particular one to be pretty unreliable though.

 

Look, anime reviewers, I don't need a recap of the premise or a spoilery discussion of the entire show. I just want you to tell me whether this is going to be manic pixie dream violinist, and if so, if the story is good enough to give it a chance anyway. Surely that's not too much to ask, right? Right? Where do I find good anime reviews? Grumble grumble I don't even like this genre of anime that much gripe grumble.

 

I love video games because I can say things like "I tried throwing a building into another building, but it just bounced off" and it makes complete sense in context.
