honestly that fucking arc was really good as it is basically??? Like there's only so muhc you can do with a First Mission Is A Lot Harder Than It Was Supposed To Be To Get Some Narrative Excuse For Introducing Ridiculous Powersets and the land of waves mission handled it well with really sympathetic antagonists and a lot of emotional oomph. So the only thing worth fixing there is erasing one or two unfortunate deaths. #JusticeForHaku
So how about that awkward feeling where it turns out a fic was discontinued because the author died? Because that just happened. ... Now I'm going to be thinking about that with every single WIP I come across.
It was Larry Huss' stuff, his son & proofreader updated on all the final chapters to announce what was going on.
I may have actually ranted about this already, but my memory is terrible and this continues to annoy me, so I apologize x'D god I'm endlessly frustrated by how often krem from dragon age is infantilized. I don't terribly mind kid!fic in general, and I'm aware that the fact that I ship krem/bull leaves me biased, but the fact that there's waaaay more kid!krem fic and headcanons that treat krem like a hormonal teenager has some really shitty implications when you take in account that he's a transman. (like he joined the army, was there long enough to be up for promotion, left, joined bull, presumably was there long enough to become a lieutenant, and THEN joined the inquisition. HE'S NOT GONNA BE NINETEEN) so just in general, the tendency of fic and fandoms to insist on really narrow portrayals of trans characters, usually to "protect" them in some shitty condescending respectability politics kind of way
also in the kid!fic but also just the stubborn teenager personality fic and... frankly even fic where krem is otherwise more krem-like, people have a tendency to write fic where krem is a cockblock between bull and dorian which seems REALLY OOC TO ME x'D I can't imagine krem giving a fuck, and more than that, I can't imagine cockblocking from an adult krem not being solved by bull just being like "so dorian and I are gonna go fuck now" also I heavily ship krem/bull... but I pretty much exclusively ship them as poly/in an open relationship, so in my own internal understanding of their relationship, none of that shit makes sense lmfao
when nearly all the content for your favorite character is of a pairing you don't ship and actually find somewhat creepy
Related to some of the other gripes here, but that feel when you get dragged into a fandom by a fic, only to realize it was literally either the best or one of the best pieces of fic in the fandom.
I think I've overheard some beginning Japanese students having that exact conversation. Also romaji looks weird when it's used to write out full sentences like that.
Yeah, it's incredibly Japanese 101 week 2, depending on how fast your Japanese class moves. Once, after I'd been studying Japanese for over a year, a friend asked me if I would be able to provide some Japanese dialogue for something they were writing. I was all, haha nope! Not if you want it to sound like it wasn't written by a foreigner who's trying way harder than they're succeeding! It's really fucking difficult. Like, I feel kinda bad making even light fun of language learners using whatever tools they have to practice their skills. But studying Japanese with formal materials gives you a good foundation for beginning to communicate without offending most people with your tone, and a complete tin ear for how to actually talk like a real person. For native English speakers at least, they also really tailor beginning phrases to better match what people expect to be saying rather than how a native Japanese speaker would actually converse. You can gradually correct that through further study and real life experience.
