MY FRIENDS ARE MY SHOWER [Kingdom Hearts]

Thread title is a reference to the Ask Master Aqua askblog, specifically this post.

SO YES come in here and let's talk about that game series where you run around swinging giant keys at evil monsters that just want to eat the souls of Beloved Disney Characters. Please spoilercut Dream Drop Distance and of course KH3 spoilers, to be gentle on folks who aren't up to date.

Okay so can someone explain to me exactly what Kingdom Hearts is because to this day no one will tell me

 

A mess. That's what it is. But it's a glorious mess.

 

Long story short: It's a JRPG series where most of your non-boss NPCs are Disney Characters, produced by the people behind Final Fantasy. The original game featured the main protagonist, Sora, on a quest to find his friends after their world was destroyed and the three or them were scattered across Disneyspace. Sora uses a Keyblade to destroy monsters called Heartless (which are formed out of the darkness of people's hearts) that are responsible for the destruction of his world and several others, before they can destroy all the worlds that remain. Donald and Goofy are your primary party members (though you get a world-specific party member on most worlds) who were told by Mickey (who is a king, and a Keyblade wielder himself) to follow and protect the Keybearer in this quest.

It eventually becomes apparent that a group of Disney villains (lead by Maleficent, who is the only one who still gets a major role in the later games) are collecting the pure hearts of Disney Princesses (referred to, in a very obvious name, as the Princesses of Heart, though not all are literally princesses. This group of seven include one of Sora's childhood BFFs, a girl named Kairi, though you don't find that out till probably 2/3 through the game). Maleficent takes Sora's BFF/rival, Riku, under her wing and trains him in the ways of Darkness. This leads to an endgame where the actual final boss (a series-original character called Ansem) possesses Riku and you fight him in what is The Boss Battle I Have Been Stuck On For Six Years, over the prize of Kairi's heart, which is the last pure heart Ansem needs to unlock Kingdom Hearts, which is a source of Nebulous Massive Power. As Sora, you defeat Ansem, but Riku and Mickey seemingly sacrifice themselves sealing the door to the Realm of Darkness. Kairi gets left back on the restored hometown world, Destiny Islands, and Sora, Donald, and Goofy go off on a quest to find Riku and Mickey.

And that's the first game. It only gets more stupidly complicated from there, as you'd expect of a JRPG. I can TLDR the other games for you if you want, but it will take a While.

It was my fangirly introduction to slash shipping. I was a very confused twelve year old who had no idea why I liked the idea of Demyx and Zexion kissing so much. Ahhhh, good times.

@ rest of thread: So apparently when you mod Xemnas into storymode in Days, you don't get his flying animation from Mission Mode.

Instead, you get invisible hover chair.

there's just something inherently funny about all the xehanorts to me. maybe because they're such a ridiculous and consistent villain. and they've been around for so long. it's just. norts.

in Kingdom Hearts the main character Sora says "My friends are my power!!!!" in a climactic point in the first game.. and i'm pretty sure has said it a few times in further games and such. It's sorta his little cheesy motive to fight battle call thing. So the post linked is just making fun of that

TLDR, "My friends are my power!" is a Dramatic Stock Phrase, sometimes with the addition of "and I'm theirs!" to finish it off. One of the major points of the series is connecting with other people and helping each other.

WORRY FOR ME IS LITERALLY THE BEST FIC IN THIS FANDOM.

oh jeez XD thanks!! i gotta go watch a cutscene movie of bbs now tho-- I played like 2/3 of the game but that was a while ago, it's the game i'm the least versed on. whooooops.
