The Crafts: Wixes, Spells, and the Weaponized Placebo Effect

@Acey I have pea sized round peridot beads! I can do necklaces, bracelets, ear rings, wire wrap rings, things like that. Because it's a gift I wanna give away for free I'm gonna say nothing too elaborate or heavy (I want to be able to ship it in a letter envelope.) @Aviari All my beads are polished and shaped, I have mostly rounds and tear drops! Buuuuut on the super DL I could probably find ya a small quartz point that's been doofing around my house for a while =P I could do a bead wrap and make you a necklace, or if you have any other ideas lemme know!

Basically everyone should message me, really. @Starcrossedsky @Aondeug and @Kaylotta, if y'all want to talk about meanings and think about it some more, don't think I don't compulsively read anything that might conceivably involve me! But if you have a basic idea of what sounds good, let's decide on something for sure over message so I can keep track and get your address.

I think with that said, I'm gonna work on these ones for now and post when I can do more since I'm pretty pathologically afraid of promising too much and never finishing anything. If somebody really feels like they missed out and are super bummed about it tho, feel free to let me know and we'll talk =)

(For those not aware, the Tanzanian government bans the export of rough stones > 1 gram, the US used to have a trade embargo against them (idk if it's still in place) and the stone is itself rare af occuring in only one place in the world. Being tanzanite witch is suffering.)

(I mean fortunately I have a bunch from my graduation present and one itty bitty raw hunk but. hurgle, tanzanite.)

 

So. Uhm. No one knows I'm into the crafts really, save for my moirail and my auspie. I recently began real reconciliation with my father, and he's come to visit. I haven't seen him for 8 years.

We're sitting in a Zaxby's (of all places) and got to talking about our estrangement, and how my mother drove him out of my life and taught me to do the same. I chuckled and said "It didn't work out so well for her when I turned the tables and did it to her, too."

He gets a small, satisfied smile on his face and says, "Well. You do reap what you sow. Maybe it wasn't such a bad thing <Best Friend> and I did back then."
Stepmom and I both go, "Eh?"
Bigger smile. "Just a little magic. You remember <Best Friend> is a witch, right?" At this point I am freaking out inside. "Well, I got a little warlock in me, too."
"I. Me too. I am too. A little."
"Really?!"

And then stepmom sat there very confused while we blathered on about how science is indistinguishable from magic and I told him about my ward plants and and and ...!!!

Not what I expected to bond with him over, that's for sure.

TLDR: My dad dabbles in the crafts too and may have hexed my mom in the divorce but she deserved it.

 

To go along with the whole newly discovered "Dad's A Warlock":

Dad is also chronically ill. Ten years of Crohn's Disease caught up with him badly in the last couple weeks. He really shouldn't be visiting someone cross-country in the first place, but I'm glad he did. That in mind, I'm making him a wardplant.

Bamboo like the rest of them, but I'd like to crowdsource additional healing/health promoting spellcraft I can work into it. Anything. Colors of ribbon to bind the plants, stones, herbs, time of lunar/solar cycle to build it, anything you can think of. I want as much love packed into this thing as I can manage. What are some things that have worked for you?

 

I give offerings of milk to Bríghid when I want people's health to get better. It's not really "magic", I suppose. More offering something up and asking another individual who can do something for their aid. Try to keep dairy in the house and keep a "hearth" going (I use electric candles myself).

 

Black Tourmaline is meant to absorb negative emotions and energy away from the person suffering them? I was told to keep it in contact with skin but that might just be a different take/working.
Technically not part of a warding or health really, but on trips and offerings, we make an offering for the pachamama with alcohol. Have a small glass, sip the first thing, then spill it on earth as an offering for a safe journey. Perhaps you could extend it to a safe journey in health and life right now, though it is usually a thing the traveller themself does, not something one does on behalf of the traveller.

 

Mother of pearl binds away discomfort, even if it doesnt fix anything?

 

Jumping from that you could use an actual pearl as a replacement for the Onion Thing. (Some practices believe you can use onions/garlic to absorb negative energy because things get stuck in the layers. You throw out a 'full' onion/clove when it starts to get gross and replace it. Pearls are kind of sea onions? and have the 'get rid of bad shit' built into their creation.) If he has a source and can swap out pearls every month or so. Since they're pearls you can probably re-use them after a simple purification. So more like shaking out a dream catcher than the Onion Thing.

 

I use pearls for this, and also as a general "trap it and keep it" thing. Like I throw them in money jars so that whatever money is attracted is kept and keeps coming.

 

Definitely liking pearls. I also have a bunch of teeny jars (.5ml) I was planning on filling with salt/etc that can't go in the soil without harming the plant itself, probably one for each stalk/point of the pentacle

 

She likes butter and tea too in my experience. Offerings are not to be consumed. Liquids you pour out. Butter and solid foods get buried, burned, or drowned. Forgot to mention that when that is very important.

 

You could pour melted butter.

 

I want to incorporate it into the plant, butter or dairy + soil may attract flies and I'm not sure how well lipids affect plants :/ Could put some in a vial though.

Yup. Round pot, and the stalks are bound with repeating half-hitches so the twine makes a clockwise spiral.

 

Melted butter would work yeah. And you could just pour out a glass of water I suppose if you're worried about the milk. Or put it in a vial yeah. So long as you're not consuming it I don't think she'd mind. Though you'd have to ask her yourself. Just shoot a question and do whatever your standard divination method is if you're worried. Really that is the standard and probably best way to figure out a god's opinion on something, beyond studying the hell out of lots of things.

 

Healing isn't really Freyja's thing, and she's the only Goddess I really commune with, but she is good for workings for lack of pain, for taking pleasure in the time someone has, for helping with feelings of loneliness and lack of connection to others. Amber is always good for her, as are gold things (and real gold is not required; I often give her gold-foil chocolate coins, for instance). Also salt water, since she's the child of a sea God and has aspects of the perilous ocean. Golden alcohol is good; whisky, the more golden white wines, and dairy especially butter and cheese. Flowers of the spring and early summer.

I guess she is for healing in a sense, but healing of the spirit, of the soul, rather than the body.

 

Huh, what Morven said reminded me that seawater often has healing associations, or I might be making that up. So I don't know if you could include a closed vial of sea salt, since salt is known as a purifier, but that way keep it away from hurting the bamboo.

 

Went to the beach with Dad for the first time since I was a wee thing. Grabbed a bottle of seawater for that among other things. I really, truly appreciate the help. Thank you, all.

 

Be sure to boil it, otherwise you'll just have a gross bottle of algae.
