Digs this thread out of the depths so as to not clog up personal threads. Cause I have been up to my eyeballs in Sims hell for many days now.

I had ended up paying the origin access fee so I could partake in all the dragon ages and more importantly try out the Sims 4 since I was unsure about buying it. It looked weird and strange to me compared to Sims 3. Conclusion: Sims hell for me.

So I have been trying challenges. Did rags to riches as a warm up. Doing perfect sim at the moment with some cheating to maintain my fun, the soulmate aspiration is a buggy terror and I decided to have a triad and cheat the partners through serial romantic so there'd be no jealousy issues instead of just the one spouse. It's been a lot of fun and I thought it would be a good way to tour the careers and features I would not normally touch with my usual gameplay style.

The Pets expansion is out and oh my GOD there are so many breeds to choose from. *0*

    OK SO

When 4 came out I heard it was Painfully Disappointing. I played it briefly on someone else's account (not an uncommon thing in my house since everyone's gamers) back when the base game was still pretty new and wasn't exactly impressed.

Now that it's had expansions and probably interesting mods, how is it in comparison to previous games? My favorite's been 3 and I've always liked the storytelling aspect.

It's definitely more limited than 2 was, by a long shot, and some of the things I loved about 3 (C U S T O M I Z A T I O N) are completely absent. That said, you can do a lot of cool things with building still, City Life added a boatload of new stuff that was really, really fun, and the design aesthetic has been one of my favorites so far.

If nothing else, it's really nice to be able to make trans sims without relying on mods or fumbling with the character creator in the hopes of popping out something passable. And the lot traits are a really fun mechanic to fiddle with, because they can really shape how your sims interact with their environment in ways you wouldn't expect.

    Oh, also, the dividing question:

Sims Medieval: love it or hate it?

Probably a bad time to admit "can't recall much of playing it", huh? :P

(I did enjoy what I remember, but it was one (1) time at a friends house years ago, because I never owned it.)

Legit all I know about that game is the whalerage trait or whatever the fuck which is the most hilarious sounding bullshit.

i remember being a bit disappointed with sims medieval, because i was expecting something with a similar playstyle to sims standard (do what you want, build houses, etc) but the storyline was waaaay more structured

i have sims 4 and a couple expansions, but it pales in comparison to my “sims 3 + all the expansions + a bunch of store content + custom content” so i haven’t enjoyed it much, although i think the art style is cute! and i’m glad it finally has toddlers

I love the aesthetic of Sims 4, but I cant get over the itty bitty super limited amount of traits for the Sims ): that and the lack of customization just make me enjoy actually playing the game a lot less.

4 I've not been able to get into and I don't own it myself so I only ever play it at my mother's. 3 is ok, but really I just want to play 2 usually? I think it's partly I like 2's variety and partly just that being a comfort game for me.

That said, I just love making Sims. At least 70% of the hours I spent on the sims was just on CAS, it's so fucking relaxing

I own Get to Work and City Living for 4. They’ve made a huge difference in how compelling I find the game. The city particularly is so beautiful and there’s so much cool content.

I like 3 better as far as gameplay. I feel like 4 is somehow both more restricted and having less direction. My thought is that the scarcity of traits is a problem, but the lifetime goal system is a bigger culprit. While in theory I appreciate being able to switch a sim’s goal at any time, in practice it makes playing one sim too much like playing any other sim. There’s no sense of personality to it. It’s too much gameplay for one sim, with not enough structure to help you find a focus or make it feel coherent. And while it’s too much for one sim, it’s way too little for an entire game of sims. There just aren’t enough different options.

That said, I still love playing the game. :P

I wish you could do more with the pets, but they ARE cute and I'm enjoying having my homeless teen have a kitty to keep her company.

I actually do not like the toddlers? they get boring very quickly and are a lot of work. and honestly i wish i hadn't gotten the parenthood pack. not that thats completely related to toddlers.

the only toddler i played enough to get all skills completely leveled was a sims 4 version of Elodie from Long Live the Queen because i wanted to see how she'd end up if anyone had bothered raising the heir to the throne to have actual skills.

the fuck do they teach at that school

So I'm thinking of doing the same thing because I'm presently too broke to straight BUY all the Xpacks that are out but I want all the content. How does it work? Is it like an extended demo thing or do I have the games I want as long as I have OA?

Origin access gives you full access to the games so you can play through the whole thing. Think a rental or videogame Netflix and once your subscription is done you will nolonger have access unless you buy or subscribe again.

Downside is its not their full game library. With the Sims 4 all you get is the digital deluxe edition and no expansion packs. Origin does at least let you see the contents of the access library before you buy though so you can decide if there is enough games you want to play to make it worthwhile for you

Because no Sims game is complete without bugs: what's your favorite?

The MFU (MotherFucking Unicorn) is legend in my house. I was playing on Bridgeport. Despite it not having wild pets (because it's a city) a unicorn spawned right outside my sim's apartment. And stayed there. And when she moved across the bridge the unicorn followed her, still camping out right on the edge of the property. It started following her to work, into town, over to friends' houses. I eventually killed it via debug commands because STOP STALKING ME.

The other was a mod conflict. Somehow my pets were able to use the mailbox. As anyone who's used a child-can-do-more-things mod that doesn't add new animation files, this causes meshes to stretch horribly to adult proportions. Children using an adult animation just look a little like Slenderman. Cats using adult animations are ABSOLUTE HORRORS. Worse, the animation had no idea what to do with the tail. So it stuck straight out. From the crotch. Que a mod dive because no matter how useful that bug was it wasn't worth it.
