Apropos of nothing, how do you choose names for your cat/s?

The last time I had an opportunity to name a cat I named him after an anime character, so.

The air bnb I stayed at on Sunday had 3 cats. One of them was part Siamese, but rather than being cream and brown her face was more pale red. Very pretty!

My family's cat was a shelter cat named Peggy. My sister decided that was not "a cat name", and since she's got a lot of orange, Peggy became Penny.

Oooh, maybe a red point siamese? I love all point colors, but red is very pretty

And Penny is such a good kitty name

    Extra: a good exchange

In my experience the best cat names are either human names, or random objects. Three of my favorite cat names I've ever heard were Pants, Concrete, and Desdemona. I also know a Kenny, a Diana, and an Almond. There's also the option of naming them after notable markings, like Star or Socks.

    Very good points!

My dad had two cats in college, one named Little Kitty and one named Fillmore. My dad's name is Phil, so the cat was named after him. Fillmore used to get stuck hanging on the screen door.....

At that same time he had friends with a dog named Alligator.

The only cat I ever participated in the naming of was one my family rescued when I was in like 4th grade. When we got a cardboard temp pet carrier to take him to the vet, it had rocket ships on the side and said "COSMIC PET CARRIER," so we dubbed him Cosmic.

We name ours after Greek/Roman gods! My mom had a theme of famous emperors (Julius, Napoleon, Caesar), my spouse had a theme of snack foods (Kitkat, Mars Bars) and so when we combined our households (Mars, Julius) we ended up with a new theme direction to go in (Apollo, Hermes, Calypso).

I've had four cats in my life, but two were adopted already named. There was my dad's cat... named Kitty Cat. And my first cat.... named Kitty.

Moral of the story: my family should not be trusted with naming animals.

Went to a pet store with my mom to get supplies for her rattos, saw some cats for adoption and two cats who just live at the store. One was named Stewie, he was warned not to push his orange friend off the shelf they were both on so he went and sat by the door instead. A wise cat.

Here are the 2 adoptable felines

    ah yes hello

I want to name a cat Mog, after the titular cat from "Mog and Bunny", a very emotional children's book

Apparently my cats all have ridiculous names

    Raffles the Amateur Catsman
    Sirocco Breeze (Rocco)
Wakanda CaraMac (Cara/Mitten. A Caramac is a weird white-candy-bar thing, btw.)

My parents named one of our cats Twostroke "because he purrs like a two-stroke engine", which... yeah. He got called Toostie for short.

there are other Mog books!! I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I am.

One is called "Goodbye Mog" and I'm actually in tears at the train station because I'm assuming mog dies in it and I guess I just can't deal with that

My mom's cats were Max and Sasha(sp?), two sixteen-pound trucker cat brothers

My dad's cat was named Emile

Meanwhile i named our first fish Garfunkel, presumably because "Simon and Garfunkel" implied to me that those were both first names

And my brother and I named our rats all sorts of things sometimes based on their markings, sometimes just for whatever reason. A rat with no name = No Name Brand, which is sold at Loblaws, so she became Loblaws and her brother was Costco

I had the opportunity to name my parents' cats three years ago. They're from a huge litter with three momma cats so possibly brother and sister, possibly some combination of aunt/nephew, uncle/niece or something.
I named them Suske en Wiske after the comic book characters that are quite popular around these parts.

I have no idea what I would name a new cat though... though I like the Greek mythology idea :)
