Spoiler: Assumption since it’s a little less than a theory. I assume the narrative reason why Lapis had to leave the show for a bit (putting aside the fact that her leaving is a sensible reaction) is because it would get mighty hard to bring back Jasper and have a Jasper arc with Lapis on screen to remind us that Jasper sucks. I choose to believe this because I want Jasper tho this is a HEAVY price to pay. (Darling thinks it’s because Lapis fights too good and the Gems need to be challenged.)
Spoiler I think that it would make sense if Lapis left because Jasper redemption arc--but I sorta hope Lapis comes back after....I WANT LAPIS.
Spoiler Lapis has been pretty off to the side already, so I think having a Jasper arc with the main Crystal Gems out of Lapis's vicinity wouldn't be too hard... except for the part where Peridot would probably be pretty heavily involved in such a Jasper arc. I think Lapis's power level is probably a bigger factor narrative-wise, but now that you mention it, this could be a good time to bring back Jasper.
I had a silly thought what if the reason Steven's spit heals and his tears revive is because Rose's tears healed and her SPIT revived -cut to Rose licking Lion-
Honestly that's been my headcanon this whole time, not even joking. EDIT: To clarify, I'm guessing with Lion it would've been spit transferred via a goodbye kiss or something along those lines, assuming that Rose did have resurrective spit. We know it doesn't take a large quantity of (insert healing bodily fluid here) to revive someone, so honestly just the normal amount of spit that's kinda on your lips anyway might well have been enough to do the trick if she did have healing spit. (She probably assumed it was her tears, but...well. Not all assumptions are accurate.)
