I've seen Abney Park in concert twice, they're way cool (even if perhaps a little too self-consciously steampunk at times)
FFIX is my favorite in the series, i cried so much the first time i finished the game and still cry at the ending every time i replay it. Melodies of Life and You're Not Alone get me emotional, but my favorite is Assault of the Silver Dragons - it can make me do anything.
I love this track by Angels and Agony: the regular version And a quieter piano version ... It works for the theme of some of my stories ...
Right now? Ghost by Mystery Skulls. You know, the one Tumblr got so excited about because of the video. It's actually a damn good song in its own right.
Alan Parson's Project - I, Robot (specifically "I wouldn't want to be like you" tends to tickle me while at work)
I have this one playing right now: VNV Nation, "Space and Time", off the "Automatic" album (second most recent IIRC). A lot of their tracks tend to fit my fictional characters ... though that might be because I was listening when writing!
Porcupine Tree has some nice music; their usual vein is very proggy, but they have some really nice, mellow pieces in there too. "Lazarus" is quite pretty, I think, too. They're a little bit obscure, so I love passing them on. :D
I did my time on public radio, so I appreciate obscure music! My partner and I did a weekly show, mostly goth and pagan music, for seven years.
Oh wow, that sounds awesome. I... feel the need to pester you for music recommendations. I grew up on 70s prog music, and just got into the wide world of goth music in the last year or so since I got Spotify and a respectable income.
I'd love to! but it is a pretty big genre, especially when you consider it as "goths like these" rather than the narrower definitions of Goth and Goth-Rock. What have you liked?
Um... many things! I was going with "goths like these", because I'm picking things up mostly through osmosis from goth/punk friends. I still feel really clueless about these new musical horizons. The Birthday Massacre, Ayria, Skinny Puppy, And One, Katatonia, Nine Inch Nails ... I've been listening to more industrial/metal and synthpop than proper goth music lately, because the screamy thumpy music helps me with overload, but I think I like a pretty broad spectrum.
I caught Ayria in concert twice when she was supporting The Crüxshadows, who I do like except they get a bit samey at times. I loved her! Synthpop isn't really quite that screamy thumpy thing though :D Here's Wolfsheim, a synthpop/darkwave German band; I love this song (from 1991)
I like plugging in tags on 8tracks... so right now I'm listening to a mix called "come and see;" in the sleepy hollow tag. Just realized all over again how good Sympathy for the Devil is.
