Yeah, in general the vibe I get from Connie's parents are that they had 0 intention of having children, got a surprise baby, panicked, and then read a lot of parenting books and/or took parenting classes and followed the rules to the book because they had no clue what to do on their own.

Oh wooow, that was really cool!
I'm glad Connie doesn't have lie anymore. That's always super distressing. Or at the very least tiresome. Man, I wonder how much she's been missing out on 'cause her parents were home, or her tennis instructor woulda told if she'd bailed or whatever. Maybe she'll get to being more involved in Steven and the Gem's stuff now! That'd be neat. But, god, Connie and Steven, holy shit. Those kids. They work together so well! They're just so in sync, it's absolutely gorgeous. When Stevonnie gets to fighting, it's gonna be a sight to behold, yeah?

I'mmmmmmmm not gonna get involved in any convos about Connie's mom, cause if anything this episode kinda solidified my feels on her as HATE HATE HATE
Uh, yeah. I'm not gonna be talking about that bit.
SO, HOW ABOUT THAT NIGHTMARE FUEL, HUH?

Yeah, those fucking mobs man, those things are in hella pain. It's gotta be a riot in their heads. I wonder what determined what part gets put on the whole? A whole lotta gems donated arms, and a whole lotta none of them thought to put in a single eye.

Well, ya gotta be careful, ya know? Put too much of one gem in and it might be able to scratch up a mind, and THEN where would everyone be? I think there's less a specific bit each bit of the gem makes, and maybe bits that are easier to make?

There's probably some Clusters that are like 99% eyes.

    And that's terrible.

(Edit: Alternate response: When no one was looking, the Cluster developed forty eyes. It developed 40 eyes. That's as many as four tens. And that's terrible.)

The first Cluster was four eyes, a handful of arms, and a tree trunk of a forearm, so, who knows! Man, I'd pay actual human dollars to hear what kinda nonsense those things have going on when they're trying to build themselves. "HAands, hOw MAnY hAndS,, AlLLL thE hanDs????"
You think shards forget what it's like to be a body? All the shards Pearl had sequestered away made hands when they got the chance, and all the shards we've seen has been capable of animating things, and wow, I just. Dang. Even that scroll, someone said it had ink on it made of powderized gems. You think it's possible to really and truly kill a gem's conscious? Or do they just fragment and degrade forever?

Same. But they do seem to do decently without eyes anyway. I mean yeah that one went after a stretcher, but without more brains one with eyes might have done that anyway. Also, agreeing that hands/arms might be easiest for them to form. And gemkind seems to have a bit of a thing with hands imo? Like the huge hand ship and the hands on the mural and stuff. Maybe that's the shape most fragments take in part because that's a symbol that's important to them/ gem society?

Well, all the gems we know of don't bother forming ears, so I figure even if you don't bother to form any sensory organs a gem might have "hearing" by default.

my heads all static-y, and I'm not making words right, i can't tell if anything i'm saying makes sense,

Ohhhh thone are hella interesting questions. I suppose the only way they'd ever be really and truly dead is after they've decomposed down to their core components like copper, etc. I wonder if there's any sort of taboo against actually killing gems, or if it's considered kinder to leave them cracked? (Since Ame seems likely to be an outlier and most gems could survive cracked for a long time like Lapis). It still sticks out to me that Pearl's physical form was destroyed countless times on the battlefield- how was she never shattered?

I figure, it's impossible to truly permanently kill a Gem. Something will always survive. HOWEVER! A complete Gem is necessary for coherent thought. A cracked Gem has effects similar to a meltdown, IMO - everything becomes harder to deal with, rage and despair build up, and it's incredibly easy for there to be a downward spiral. A genuinely broken Gem is not really capable of proper reasoning - they can act on instinct and follow orders, sometimes, and the more they get broken down the further their consciousness degrades. Powdered Gems are essentially only capable of detecting PAINWRONGBADNO and rage and suchlike, and so will lash out at anything and everything nearby if given some way to do so.

I wonder if the reason shards are so violent is because they were killed in battle.

And no I don't think she could be- most of the time if you seriously wound a gem then they'd end up poofing.

"average gem gets hideously deformed when gem is cracked" factoid actualy just statistical error. Average gem can survive with a cracked gem. Amethysts Georg, who lives in Beach City and gets very fucked up after slightly cracking her gem on a rock, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

(I actually have always assumed it was Lapis who was an outlier, though--her gem was pretty badly damaged, to the extent that it was practically in multiple pieces, and given the fact that her willpower is fucking insane, I wouldn't be surprised if an injury that severe would totally fuck up most gems and she held herself together through sheer strength of will.)

I actually read a (now largely Jossed, but still) fanfic that suggested that the CGs would bubble broken gems as a kindness to them, as it puts them in a permanent stasis of sorts--that you can't completely destroy a gem's consciousness, and that basically putting them into a sort of indefinite coma was kinder than letting them retain that partial (and painful) consciousness.

Yeah, I figured that an unbubbled Gem will try and make a physical form on instinct, but if they're badly damaged/insane then it'll just make a mess and a monster. Kinder to let them rest in a bubble until they can be gotten to a healer.

Lapis' willpower is indeed fucking insane. I love her so much.

Also, my mom said this during Nightmare Hospital: "Oh shit, Helicopter Mom lost her rotor!"

I'm still laughing, my mom is perf.
