I tend to sell off any eggs I find as a fast way to build up my gem stash, because I don't have the patience for acquiring Fancy Genes from scratch instead of acquiring them preapplied on discount bin dragons in the auction house :P But some people have a lot of fun figuring out the best way to gene up blank slate babies!

(the first NotN event was kind of broken, but I went apeshit bananas on the coliseum and made enough $$$$$ to apply three gem genes each to my two progens, the two dragons I was given as presents when I started, and my first ever nocturne egg. God, that was an... extravagant holiday. They unbroke the event enough that I don't think those same kinds of extremes are very achievable, but I still make good NotN money and coast on that for a while afterwards)

 

OH, and if you buy any limited period clothes in the marketplace, especially if you're planning to sit on them until prices go up and resell them later, check out the bundles tab for sure. You save some money, but also the bundles don't go into your apparel tab until you open them, so they don't clutter up the apparel interface for your dragons. I'm still sitting on a couple bundles from last year that I totally forgot about, so I've got to see if I ran out of any apparel I wanted to use, but I'll probably sit on them a few months more and try to turn a profit :P

And if you turn things around for gem-based profit in the auction house, it's worth checking out the regular gem apparel bundles, because apart from the holiday sets, there's some really pretty other stuff in there. Some of it cycles in and out, but there's like, rainbow silks (I have them on my Ten dragon) or night sky silks (on Equius and Roxy), or there's some pretty, pretty white armor (on Prowl, I think) and the.... other silky things, the fluttery silky translucent apparel things. White ones of those also, on Drift. It's a dangerous part of the site for my wallet, but... so PRETTY ;u;
