Spoiler My thought was he works with compost instead, but maybe. Okay, Stelsa's the "Sign of the Worshipper". I'm definitely thinking Sufferist, though I maintain that really by rights ought to be the opposite of troll Judaism.
Spoiler I really want this to be a thing because it'd be???? so cool?????????????????? corpse religion yay
Spoiler see my first thought was 'there is a vibrant and argumentative segment of trolls that are Very Interested in decomposition and related fields, and they will have many arguments about what the best kind of shovel is or what kind of dirt is preferred, and there is a long running argument re: using... idk, chemicals or whatever to influence the process, and the trolls who follow the old way where you have nothing but your shovel, your dirt patch, and your delicately-bred and carefully-protected colony of rotworms are considered orthodox.
Also, Spoiler y'know trolls can and almost certainly do have religions BESIDES 'gosh the sufferer is great.' i mean i'm not even clear on if Sufferism is a religious stance so much as a philosophical and ethical one. also I am still pretty doubtful that the sign titles will be useful in interpreting characters beyond a 'oh that's kinda neat' way. it seems pretty likely to me that they came up with a hoard of characters and character designs first, and then filled in a lot of blanks based on what seemed cool or funny at the time.
Spoiler I didn't say they didn't, I'm thinking it because that plus rebellion storyline plus Hussie made comments about Terezi being "troll Jewgish" and her ancestor was involved with the Sufferists so the train of thought made sense. Y'know, everyone's assuming Fozzer buries decomposing stuff. What if he digs it up instead?
Spoiler Maybe Sufferism is a religion and troll jewish just means following the teachings and philosophies of the sufferer but not treating him as a religious figure?
Okay, why is Tumblr getting mad that there are no limebloods? No duh there aren't, I'm pretty sure they've all been dead for centuries by this point and if there were any they'd be hiding as Karkat was! Though I may be remembering wrong. Do we know when they were exterminated?
Spoiler ...that would be a reading of Judaism that I think would miss the point on why Jews are Jews considerably?
I'm not sure ALL the troll sign titles will have relation to the troll they were given to, but given that Marvus MIGHT be hiding his blood color and then is displaying a purple sign that is 'sign of the audacious', I'm also not sure the titles have zero significance either.
Spoiler If you were referring to my post, then yeah, I agree with you, and I'd hope that troll judaism would be much more complex than that. I was just thinking that that might be an aspect of it. Or something. It's kind of hard to extrapolate what troll judaism might look like when we don't even know that much for sure about "troll christianity".
Spoiler Given that we've seen no group of trolls which maps neatly onto any group of humans (human juggalos aren't actually the secret henchmen of an eldritch abomination, as far as I know) it seems kind of weird that they'd try to do it with Judaism.
Spoiler Depends on how they approach it, but not necessarily so. One of the core concepts of Judaism is that we've got a duty to make the world a little better than it was when we came into it. That duty can take a lot of different forms, and you're supposed to do what you can do - if giving money to the homeless guy on the street will mean you're short on grocery money, then you're not supposed to do that, and knitting scarves and hats for people in shelters is Just As Good as going to protests or fighting for wage increases. As best as I understand it, Sufferism seems to involve a certain amount of "the world is shit, it shouldn't be shit, let's try and make it less shit".
Spoiler Yeah, if it was a cultural and practice analogue rather than a strict 1:1 thing that could work. Okay, we all look at Fozzer and think corpses while Tumblr is going "lol poopsmith". Are they immature or are we morbid?
Spoiler Well, they do have a point. Corpses aren't the only things that decompose. Also, why is he sad now? He was smiling in the leaked art!
Spoiler Isn't it also kind of a death cult? Or maybe a death cult sect formed a while after the Signless died? I thought that at least part of his teachings involved the fact that eventually his descendant would hatch and bring about the apocalypse, and That Would Be A Good Thing. kind of like the Rapture but without the heaven part. Just the whole sinful species being cleansed from the planet. Maybe the sect that follows those beliefs is troll catholicism.
Spoiler I'm not sure. I know that fanon definitely goes with "Sufferism is an apocalypse cult that is really popular in the brood caverns", but I'm not really certain of how much of that is people extrapolating from what we know about the Sufferer and how things went down, and how much is stuff that actually got told in canon. (And if it is canonical information, who is it from? The series is full of unreliable narrators, and Aranea tends to want to spin things to make a cooler story from what I recall.) I'm pretty sure that his teachings didn't involve anything about "hey, eventually my descendant will turn up and then the world's gonna end"; he seemed very focused on the whole "hey, let's make the world we have now less awful" side of things. It may have been something his followers added in later, or it could straight-up be apocrypha or fanon.
