To be fair, he didn't so much find out about the murdering as he got real fucked up on homebrew hallucinogenics after a few days of fasting and saw a buncha buck wild shit. He doesn't know he watched a murder happen, he thinks he watched a wonderous and transcendent ascent by a Master to a higher state of being. He also thinks it's real sad that he's so shit at letting go of personal attachments, cause she'll be super disappointed when he doesn't achieve mastery himself and join her in eternal bliss.
"It was all a dream/coma fantasy/drug trip" has been done to make at least passable stories and it frustrates me to no end that fandom never uses its 2edgy theories to run with that! Anyone else a fan of Sucker Punch or YU+ME Dream?
I love Sucker Punch. It got me through one of the hardest times in my life. Also my latest petty gripe which I think I have complained about before (but which Persists Endlessly) is using Character A in my fandom as a plot device for characters B and C to get together. Usually, this is done as 'Character A is an abusive asshole (because morally ambiguous in canon = abusive??) towards character B. Character B is rescued from this toxic relationship by Character C, who fixes all his problems by virtue of not being Character A.' Literally it is SO. HARD. To find actual shipfic with my problematic fave because it's mostly 'this character is abusive and acts as a catalyst for my OTP to get together'. And that's fine and good if that's what you want to read/write, but just... the tags are so full of '#Character A/Character B for one chapter #Character A is a total dick #Character B can do better.' Please just let me read shipfic of my problematic fave. Please.
looked up a ship on AO3, found a fic with >63,000 words, 50/?? chapters, and ABSOLUTELY NO DESCRIPTION. the only tags are character names, ships, and "character death." how the fuck am i supposed to know if i want to read this? if it were a short one, a couple thousand words, i might give it a shot even with no information. but i'm not investing the time into a fic the length of a novel with literally nothing to go on, jfc
Fandom language tics that you notice and then can never un-notice and it's like nails on a chalkboard. "he (tasted/smelled) of X and X and something so uniquely (character)"
[8:51 PM] [YOI Badfic Friend]: "he was clever, and he was made of fire and whiskey, grenadine and a splash of bright citrus." What does this mean [8:51 PM] LadyNighteyes: He was a flaming cocktail. [8:52 PM] LadyNighteyes: Probably one that has a single-entendre name.
there's apparently lots of cocktails that use whiskey, grenadine, and citrus of some sort, but i wasn't able to find any that are supposed to be set on fire.
That I haven't written a fic where Mae shouts MAYBE IT'S MAYBELLINE, BITCH and punches someone in the face. Why this would happen I don't really know. Just that she'd probably get her ass fucking kicked but it'd be worth it. Maybe. Kiiind of. ok not really but we committed to it, dammit
I could see an older Mabel (one who doesn't stick her fingers in her ears when people are swearing, although at least in WT being around Valiska will cure you of that) pulling that move, too.
thanks now i have MAYBE IT'S MAYBELLINE in the voice of mabel stuck in my head and i do not know how to deal with this
Then there's Marvel's character Saturnyne sitting over in a corner with her Avant Guard looking hella smug.
Please, author. All of your fics are amazing. Just finish, like, one. Any of them. I'll even take one from the fandom I'm not in because your plot hooks are so compelling that I'll read stuff about canons I've never even touched before. ... Aaand you've started a new fic today. Goddammit it's good too.
I do that! Can I gripe about my own bad habit? I get to the exciting bit of a story and then stop writing, because I'm so terrified I'll fuck up the ending! Oh, a reviewer of a bad hentai comic gave a lovely description of my "favourite" kind of horrifying story:
when a fic should be your jam but there are just enough grammar/spelling errors that it makes the fic unappealing also, paragraphs that never end
