I write both fanfic and original fic, but I am terrible at writing on a schedule. :/ I'm also notoriously bad at writing setting and letting people know where the characters are and what they look like, so if anyone has any good advice or resources about that I will happily take it. Or au fanfiction of your own fanfiction...
@Helen of Boy there's nothing wrong with fics-of-fics as long as you've got the author's permission. and if you don i'm an asoiaf fan. tyrion lannister's my fave character in that series.
seconding that with permission, fics-of-fics are generally fine! One of my biggest AUs used to get a fair amount of fanficfic. If you use AO3, it's even got an "inspired by" field that lets you link to the parent fic directly from your own posting
I wish I did, but description is probably my weakest skill. I've found a short descriptive paragraph (one or two sentences of appearance plus whatever the character is doing) upon introduction helps. Also/alternatively, replacing dialogue tags with action tags, if it's positioning that matters. But it's the kind of problem where lots of us don't do it well, but we all do it poorly our own ways, a little. I'll try and remember the better stuff, but I'm pants at catching it without a beta to help. If ever I finish any, maybe... but I gotta do that much first, or I might end up with... well, too many more, even. Yeah, but I feel strange about it all the same. Probably because the fics in question are the so-good-I-forget-they-aren't-canon kind so I don't realize that'd be what I'd be doing until it's too late.
:D Tyrion is great. I mean, in asoiaf, there's a multitude of characters that I call my favorite, but I do so love Tyrion. I especially enjoyed A Clash of Kings because he is really in his element in that book.
yep. it does have lots of cool characters, but tyrion - like toph, bean, and norm the genie, to name a random few of my faves - just hits my fave character formula(s) really well. like once i find a character that fits me that well, i'm like, "yep, fave."
i now have a scene where a future teller recounts an au. because i couldn't get it out of my head. does anyone want to hear my story?
basic over view of my story: there is a school shooting in a universe where trauma often gives superpowers seven people trigger (six students + one teacher) they muddle along for a few months, each with declining mental health everything goes to hell because evil telepath. mains are riven (aletheia), nat (aisling) and sam (circe) riven can rewrite perceptions of reality by speaking to someone nat is invisible 100% of the time circe has healing/body manipulation that she herself is not immune to. they're a poly relationship circe is a genderqueer person who has amab lower bits and boobs. aletheia goes sort of mad and kills people. he also doesn't talk. he also saves the world. @Bel Capricorn have i got everything right here?
I've always wanted to write a creation myth myself, and I'm gonna go through and read all these ideas and maybe get inspired when I've got the time. I like this and I like you. :D
:D Thanks! One day I realized 5/7 names started with De--, and I thought of the possible pun. Then I was obligated to see the joke through. Dictionaries became my close friends for a few days...
Pretty much. I mean, there's a lot that is important that isn't in there, but for a basic overview it does nicely and it's certainly more concise than anything I've said about it.
