...Wait, was that excerpt from like, the chapter summary, or the fic’s text itself? I mean, either way it’s.... wow.... but if it’s in the fic itself... /O\

I asked the same question and was very relieved to find out it was a chapter-end author's note. :::PPP

More critically important conversations from me and YOIBF (not the same author as the overscrupulous warning, BTW):
[7:29 PM] [YOI Badfic Friend]: "The phone is swiftly taken from his hand and tossed across the room like a dishrag." who throws dishrags across the room
[7:30 PM] LadyNighteyes: This author, apparently.
[7:30 PM] LadyNighteyes: Also, pretty sure phones are more aerodynamic than dishrags.
[7:31 PM] LadyNighteyes: Hard to get a dishrag to go all the way across the room. Drag's too high.
[7:31 PM] [YOI Badfic Friend]: Yeah, to get a rag all the way across the room you'd want to ball it up first

[7:46 PM] [YOI Badfic Friend]: "Draco Malfoy has a secret that, if it gets out, can make him a bigger laughing stalk than he already is. When Draco gets a new friend, she helps push him out of his comfort-zone and then, before he knows whats happened, the secret's out. The outcome of this was almost the opposite of what he thought would happen."
    [7:47 PM] LadyNighteyes: "laughing stalk."
[7:47 PM] [YOI Badfic Friend]: I'm imagining some stationary plant-like sea creatures laughing

Character/Reader fic. Not because it's the evolution of self-insert fic, because that's some people's thing, but I find it so viscerally uncomfortable to read.

"You're dating (x) and you sit on their lap and say--" No I don't this is out of character for me you can't tell me what to dooooooo

Tbf I have chucked dishcloths from the kitchen into the bedroom, which is probably equivalent to "across a room". This is usually because it fell on the floor and now I can't use it and I'm upset about that. However, I wouldn't call it a toss; it's an overhand throw with a lot of force behind it.

You can kind of fling them and get good distance, but it's definitely not a toss. Requires a bit of a whipping motion and it's easier if you're flinging it to the side.

cleverThylacine cuddles for the weird and the fierce

    OMFG.

I like some of it, and I wrote a lot of the content for one of the Ford x Reader tumblrs. But people do not freaking think when they write it.

Seeing dialogue that goes, "I love you, Y/N". Terrible.

And if you're going to specify the reader's age, their family members/family history, etc, just bite the bullet and invent your damn OC already. I get completely thrown out of those fics when I find out that I suddenly get along with my mom and call her a lot or that I have a younger brother in college instead of a younger brother whose whereabouts I normally know only when he is in jail.

I keep falling into teeny dead fandoms and then get mad when there's no fic*. Why couldn't I get into Supernatural or, like, Teen Wolf?

    * Or at least none thar satisfies my picky picky standards

Of course, Celestia might not be that powerful if we believe a good chunk of the show, but I'm still gonna side-eye that AU because you just know what the kind of people who like it is like.

    i. i want to finish reading this fic so bad. it’s a very highly kudos’d fic and i can see why! it’s good! but the threshold of miscommunication plot/drama has reached OH GOD WHY levels for me.

i now remember why i stopped reading this fic the first time i attempted it. hhhhhh

This is why I can't watch most romcoms. It's like straight cis monogamous people somehow do not know how to use words to the point where someone's relationship breaks up because their girlfriend saw them hug their sister, but because their sister lives in Alaska and they didn't have a chance to tell their girlfriend she was coming to visit, the girlfriend assumes he's cheating, because people who are cheating always hug and kiss in public where everyone can see them.

I've probably complained about this before, but...why are so many of the really heavily recced fics super mediocre? Like, seriously. It seems to be a constant in every fandom I'm in. i'm looking at you, herding cats

#admittedly i'm also salty that my own fic has never been recced by anyone other than close friends #but still

partly differences in tastes/standards i bet, and partly that if everyone is saying "oh this is the b e s t you have to read it", then shy people like me arent going to go against the grain and say anything to counter those recs if we dont like the fic.

and... idk ive only recced like two fics ever i think? more reccing must be done...

Yeah, another thing is that there's not a lot of people in some fandoms who do recs, so people end up listening to whoever does, even if their tastes aren't that great. I also think the "friends reccing friends' fics" thing might be an actual issue, because while I know of a couple of cool blogs that actually do make an effort to just rec good fics, a lot of people, when they make recs, are reccing fics they are especially attached to and a lot of times that means they know or have interacted with the author.

So out of my experiences with being recc'd, the most recent fic has mostly been recc'd people who I'm at least on friendly terms with. The other ones were respectively a rarepair and a rare crossover, and got attention for being some of the only game in town. It also helps that other than the rarepair and like two other old fics, I write gen, which means while I get less attention overall because nobody kisses, people are also less likely to hate my fic on principle because the wrong people are kissing.
