I'm liking the Black Tapes' Sumerian/Babylonian bent. People forgetting their influence on demonology/Judeo-Christian mythology in general kinda irks me.
I finally got around to finishing season 1 of Tanis, then binged s2 of Black Tapes and am now disappointed I have to wait for content to come in on that front instead of backreading :( The spoopy scary demons theme may be a little overwrought but I am really digging the intricacy, the way Tapes manages to keep introducing threads without really dropping any. Everything feels relevant. Which is probably a liiiiitle unrealistic for an investigative but holy fuck is it ever impressive.
wait it is now i get more of nic's endless fucking waffling ass rambling but with pictures?! DAT VOICE (i feel so silly that the main reason i prefer tanis is the narrator's voice)
Tanis 212 reaction: congrats Nic! You found oroborus! I must stop now but things I have said a lot tonight, binging s2: "Nic no." "Nic don't" "Nic you dumbass" "I swear to fucking god, Nic" "That's a bad idea" "Jesus motherfuckshit" "You have got to be kidding me" "I don't trust [pronoun]" "Is guessing the next Mystery Thing to show up two shots or three?"
Spoiler: The end of TBT Hey so i was super excited and pumped for the newest ep of tbt until...i realized that it was the last episode and ended on the vaguest, least exctiting way. way to , uh, completely ruin the story for me folks! as hardcore of a strand/alex shipper as i am, the idea that the show would end with them ~running away together in love~ without any actual wrapping up of...anything? god, what a fucked up bore of an ending
I also was extremely disappointed. Spoiler Like seriously??? Wtf happened to Strand’s whole “I love my wife!!!” thing?? The ending felt like it came out of the blue. This was really irksome to me, especially since I hated Alex’s voice so much, but stayed for the story. Granted the series started losing me halfway through the last season. Just. Why?? Yup, I mad.
did anyone listen to the snippet that TBT uploaded earlier this week? Spoiler looks like it might have been a fake-out ending??? [\spoiler]
Got means to listen to podcasts on my phone, now listening to them to quiet brainfuckage while I get my shit together. This means relistening to/catching up on tbt and tanis. I really want to like Tanis so much. But it just keeps... Meandering on and on. Drawing dots and never connecting them. But the core of it, the actual Tanis stuff, is so good.
I honestly listened to Tanis after a point just to listen to Nick's voice. It meanders pointlessly for so long but like he has a nice voice and a good, steady rhythm that's just...pleasant to zone out to?
yeah i feel the exact same way re: TANIS and am still endlessly frustrated by TBT, could never really get into rabbits or the last movie really
has anyone else listened to rabbits? i just started it (i have a long commute and in a sort of mindless work part of a project, so i am...always podcasting basically) and i'm finding it...fine? I don't find Carly as compelling of a narrator as Nic or Alex, even though she has a stronger motivation. it's difficult for me to get a handle on her personality. part of that, i think, is her totally weird attitude towards sex work. the way she talks in 102 and 103, it's as if she thinks Yumiko possibly getting into sex work is worse than her being dead. which, first, is a bad attitude, and second doesn't fit into Carly's larger characterization as a person at home in counter cultures with a generally progressive attitude. i'm probably going to keep listening, though, because i'm really liking the ARG conceit
