You could see if the Wayback Machine might have any of them archived?

It does theoretically... Except it's an explicit fic, so instead of letting you see the chapter, it takes you to the whole 'if you're okay with adult content, click proceed' page. :( it was a good try from wayback machine, though.

You can also try google's cache, and if that doesn't exist, bing's (I know, I know, who uses bing? But when a fic I liked disappeared recently, bing had a cache of every chapter).

Wait, I’m in the ygo fandom and now I’m kind of worried. Do you remember what the fics were that they deleted?

Okay I'm sorry if I worried you. It was only the author Lasae_Abyss, and they deleted their account. They had a hugely popular fic called Blue Lotus that I found because YEARS after it was completed, a professional illustrator released some art based on it. It's gone now :(

I didn't think to check Bing! Google has two chapters out of 42, but I don't know about Bing. That's a great idea @Rehsepay!

Was it slash? If so, do you have any saved explicit artwork from the same fandom (and perhaps same ship though this isn’t required)? If so, I know we were just ragging on 4chan last page, but /y/ might be able to help. It is full of people who treat transformative works in a curative manner. Someone may have saved the work.

    Standard 4chan warnings apply.

I do! Thank you, I'm scared but I'll definitely ask.

A lot of the language that would be horrifically offensive if used here has entirely different connotations within that subculture. People may speak in a very abrasive fashion but it’s sort of like one huge vent thread. The anonymity by nature means it’s not really intended to be personal. It’s where you go to exorcise thoughts and ideas you’re not allowed to say anywhere else. It can absolutely still be toxic, but I don’t feel like it’s quite the condemnation of humanity that it may seem.

People probably won’t be mean to you about looking for your favorite missing fanfic. You can’t start a thread without an image, hence that. It also serves as a kind of offering.

Ah! Okay, I wasn't sure what I was meant to use the image for :) I don't necessarily take abrasive language personally, I just didn't wanna get spammed with gore pictures.

If that happens on /y/, there’s a little arrow at the top of the post where it lists the username (almost always Anonymous). Clicking it will give you a menu with an option to report the post. I doubt it will be a problem, but if it does happen, absolutely report it.

Guro is against the site rules afaik unless it’s /b/. (Board-specific rules for /y/ additionally prohibit real person images such as photographs (strictly enforced) and obvious depictions of shota (not as strictly enforced unless it also violates the real people ban, since “obvious” can be subjective).)

I don’t spend much time hanging out on /y/ but unless things are wildly different than they used to be, the mods will not stop people from shit talking each other, but they have a very low tolerance for behavior that ignores or disrupts the purpose of the board. That would absolutely include spamming guro to express distaste for op.

so, what i'm getting from this is that temple can be a 4channer without being a terribly bigoted asshole, even though "terribly bigoted asshole" is likely basically what the original person meant when they joked about him going on there?

    huh.

Yeah, there's a lot of difference in culture and behavior between different 4chan boards. Some of them are cesspits and some of them are full of Nazis, but it's not universal.

Amusingly enough, yeah. I spent a fair amount of time on 4chan myself in early college years. I preferred /r9k/ to /b/ because I liked people being able (and technically even required) to post more than a super concise meme in order to participate in a thread before it fell off into oblivion.

Pretty much every other person I knew in a computer-related major also at least idly frequented the site at the time. I remember someone in a crowded dorm elevator announcing to nobody in particular that he heard they liked mudkips, and every single other person reacted with recognizable memes.

I think in part it was a pushback against the rise of identity-centric social media. Sometimes you’re stressed and need a place to say something stupid or weird without worrying that it will haunt you forever.

I think at least some of the offensive chatter was probably people trying to reconcile shifts in acceptable language with the absolute absence of education or even introduction to the existence of the conversation that so many people got from school. There was a sharing of guilty thoughts, as well as the frustration that everyone who seems to know what you can or can’t say also seems to have very little patience for naive beginners. It’s difficult to process your internalized prejudice if you don’t feel like you’re allowed to even articulate it.

It’s really hard to draw a line between what is cathartic and useful to begin a new thought process, and what has become a circle jerk of apologism in which people have stopped commiserating over their shared shame and made it an accepted part of their common identity. I think there was plenty of both.

A lot of people were there because they were lonely, mentally ill, unhappy, and/or isolated and they needed to know that there were other people with the same fears, quirks, interests, and failings.

Okay, I know this isn't the most ideal place to post this, but just in case this was anyone else's gripe, I found a website that converts fics to epub or mobi files (which should be readable on most computers). I'm posting the links under a spoiler. When you go to the site, you want to go to the little link on top that says 'archive' and search there. even if the link is dead, you can still download the epub/mobi files.

terfs are awful but the yourfavhatesterfs tumblr's determination to list every single rvb character is getting annoying

like, "Lavernius Tucker, AKA Tucker, from Red Vs Blue, hates TERFs!" is not actually rvb content

i'm still waiting to see if they'll reach temple, though :P

is he so unloved that even the sj spam blog won't touch him? or will "Mark Temple, AKA Temple, from
Red Vs Blue, hates TERFs!" appear on the rvb tag one day?"

It’s still hilarious to me when people try to make rvb characters Woke with a capital W. Like. We watched the same show, right? I love them all dearly but none of them is exactly the type to have detailed and articulate opinions about queer gender politics. None of the main cast, at least. Maybe some of the side characters. But there does not exist a universe in which Tucker’s first words after someone tells him they’re a lesbian aren’t “can I watch?”.

yep. no one on rvb is Woke. :D:D:D

except maybe doc, he definitely does talk a bit like that about race, religion and environment sometimes. not always but it feels more plausible for him than most of he main characters.

i'd prefer interacting with doc to interacting with an anti any day 'cause at least doc is pretty kind and sincere in beliefs

honestly, i'd prefer interacting with almost any rvb character to interacting with an anti :P

the rvb fandom has moved on from "temple is an incel" to "if you disagree with [headcanon], you're an incel"

and no, not the same headcanon and not about temple

    a facecanon one

jesus rvb fandom, stop using "incel" as one of your go-to insults

incels have actually fucking killed real people, in real life, in my country

    no facecanon has done that
