Spoiler: @)-`-,-- Well who knows WHAT I saw during the spring and summer of 2015 and don't remember, I am not going to deny I could've seen that. I was on opioids from March or April of 2015 through at least the middle of 2016. It's hilarious when I think about how much WT world building I did when I was continually stoned. Although I still love Ford as much as ever so.
Spoiler: @)-`-,-- Also I'm really concerned about the inside of Pearl's head, especially the way that all the Pearls inside her behave like a not too healthy system with one of them always in front.
Spoiler: my interp My interp was that it was more like her suppressing her trauma and shoving it into the back of her mind--literally. "Very good at compartmentalizing" indeed.
Spoiler: @)-`-,-- Yeah, I just wonder where the border between compartmentalising and splitting the personality actually is with her. But mostly the wording reminded me of friends I have that are multiple.
hmmmm. Spoiler it is kind of cool af that Pink learned to TURN HER GEM when she shapeshifted???? but that said--how did she become able to retain that form for SO LONG? is it possible for a Gem to change themselves that drastically when they reform, so that it's their new form instead of a shapeshifting thing? is this a Diamond thing? is this a "defective" Diamond thing?? because we still don't have confirmation or denial on whether or not Pink was defective, technically.... also....the preview of an upcoming episode.... "SHE LIED TO US!" my heart. it hurts. Spoiler: response seconded, honestly. like....as a person with DID, that....seemed....OSDD-like. there are facets of Pearl, different Pearls who are also still somewhat the same Pearl--that's a system-type thing. the only difference is that it seemed like the Main Pearl Inside Pearl like, tried to keep the others relegated to their memories, or the moments they would've like, 'formed', so that she could keep things all nice and organized in the top 'layer' of what would be the headspace--which actually reminds me a lot of the way some polyfragmented systems work, people who have SO MUCH TRAUMA that there's like, 'layers' of it, and each layer can be responsible for the formation of multiple different alters. sometimes it's even literal layers, like there are actual spaces within the normal headspace where alters from certain trauma incidences....live, almost. eta: also, for some people with systems, if they can't handle the trauma an alter relates to, they might subconsciously suppress the ALTER, or even consciously attempt to trap the alter somewhere, so they don't have to deal with it. it's a hella dysfunctional way of handling it, and the conscious suppression usually doesn't last long and is, from what I hear, exhausting, but.
Spoiler: huh Looking it up, OSDD seems like a possibility? I mean, I still personally see it as her just burying her trauma as deep down as she can, but it's def a fascinating interp!
Spoiler: aaaaaaa Goddammit I WAS SO ONTO THE FUCKING "ROSE IS PINK DIAMOND" BANDWAGON BUT THEN THE WHOLE "I SAW HER BEING SHATTERED" THING HAPPENED AND GARNET "KNEW" ABOUT IT AND I SAID "OK SO THAT THEORY'S PROBABLY WRONG BUT LET'S KEEP IT IN MIND JUST IN CASE" AND IT WAS RIGHT AND AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Oh wow, I really need to catch up on SU, or else I'm not gonna be able to not open those spoilers eventually.
Spoiler so i was like. thinking (dangerous, really) .... this means pearl wasnt actually like. "free". she was still pink diamond's pearl. technically free from homeworld and the status quo there, still subservient to PD. im not sure how much of that pearl still feels is her duty or like she owes it to rose/PD, or just wants to be helpful, but its. definitely Something
Y'ALL HOLY SHIT I WAS NOT PREPARED Spoiler I remember when "Rose was Pink Diamond" was a pretty popular theory! I was pretty onboard for it too. I'm really impressed by the skill of the misdirection we got here :D also, Pearl's compartmentalization comment and all of her suppressed trauma: ouch. Mega ouch.
Spoiler god, poor steven too the pearl crying on the beach level was hella disturbing. he's clearly not super comfortable with it, because yikes who would be, but he just tucks that away so he can comfort her. like, he walks in on his parent figure (who doesn't even seem to recognize him because she's too fucked up about her own shit) sobbing uncontrollably and wailing about how his birth is going to kill his mom, how she lost everything, and she's so sad and alone. and he just kind of takes a deep breath and sits down and gently comforts her so he can find what he needs. like, he doesn't get to be upset about that, this is just his life! he's, what, 14? 15? he's so used to deeply whack shit. that's not age-appropriate at all and he has no idea ;-;
Slightly calmer now... (slightly) Spoiler: Thoughts Seconding that its super fucked up that in a way Pearl was never free until Steven was born, and all her apparent pride in independence was actually the same pride-in-loyalty that we see from Blue and Yellow Pearl. Hell, and the secrets Rose kept from her hurt even worse, because she thought she was the only one who really knew her for what she really was :/ This has been bouncing around in my head all morning: "Here is the secret that nobody knows - When is a rose not a rose not a rose?" Also, I want to meet the Rose Quartzes bubbled at the Zoo even more now, because I really want to see if they generally follow the normal Quartz design - bright pastel skin and paler hair, you know? Also I bet they're just like other quartzes too, power-wise.
Spoiler: a single pink rose it's kind of funny too because that means that not only was Pearl broken up about Rose's death because the two loved each other, but because she was rose's Pearl. And having the person that you've taken orders from your whole life, as well as someone you love, just disappear, must be even harder.
Spoiler Okay, so. What we know has changed significantly. Rose Quartz was Pink Diamond, in disguise as a quartz. Pearl knew the entire time- even if no one else did (which, implicitly, Ruby and Sapphire did not), and even she was sworn to secrecy. This is how they were able to "shatter" Pink in front of her palanquin- Pink and her Pearl went in, Pink and "Rose" came out, and they faked the fight. This gives them a way out of the "The Gems shattered Pink Diamond" morality issue- it didn't actually happen, so all the Gems are innocent as far as we know. This also explains why Rose/Pink could still be so upset at Bismuth for her Breaking Point and bubble her for it- Rose wasn't being a hypocrite, she lied to begin with. Pearl apparently knew that Rose/Pink would vanish after giving birth to Steven, and was upset about it before the actual birth occurred. Diamonds, or at least Pink Diamond, have the ability to Command other gems to do/not do certain things. This still leaves a lot of things unresolved or unanswered, but it gives more insight into plenty of things that happened in the past.
