omfg REW V is at the tippy top of the rvb section again it legit has a new chapter, the author didn't just redate, but still, still... why why REW V i rue the fifth so fucking much now 'cause the fifth REW doesn't know how not to be like this
Spoiler: nsfw "Whitewashed his walls" is not a hot smut description, author. You've got me thinking about racism, Tom Sawyer and interior decorating, not sex there.
It appears to be a Red vs Blue/RWBY crossover fic with All The Tags, written by someone who is very 12.
it is that (plus one with overwatch and grand theft auto) and it has just updated again and is now at the top again and yes, that does indeed mean that it's updated at least twice in one day the author of REW V needs to go to the Patience Store and buy some damn patience
a bnf in the rvb fandom is taking writing commissions, and then writing gen for commission fics where the commissioner requested a ship and i'm just... why and i'm really glad that i don't ever try commissioning people now like, i would hate it if i paid actual money for temple/biff and got temple & biff gen if you either can't or won't give someone what they asked for, don't take their fucking money i don't care if you're a bnf, that's still fucking shitty of you
Oh goddamn, that's the sort of shitty that would have me blasting the person on social media for it and trying to reverse the transaction. Because if I paid for smut - or even a fluffy ship fic - and you agreed to create something to those specifications, then you had better not try and give me something that isn't what we agreed on. I'd send the food back if I ordered chicken fettucini and they gave me spaghetti with a side of grilled chicken. BNF doesn't get more leeway there than a restaurant does.
Authors being afraid to write something that would, depending on where in the timeline it happens, be self-cest?
yeah that's just straight-up bad commission etiquette like, i'm not exactly THE MOST EXPERIENCED with taking commissions but imo it's absolutely vital you get the commissioner's approval during multiple stages of the commission process. i'm not paying for someone to take my initial description with no further input from me and run with it, and i wouldn't expect someone to pay for something if it was a gamble on whether or not they'd be happy with the finished product
yeah, that's what i figured. the commission wasn't for me, though, it just was someone else's commission that i know was supposed to be shippy 'cause of what the author tagged it on ao3, so i'm not going to jump in there any more than i just did. after all, it is entirely possible - though i don't think it's likely - that i got the wrong impression from what the fic was tagged on ao3 and i don't think the commissioner would appreciate me trying to fight their battles for them. all i really want to do is write the commissioner a free fic for the ship they commissioned a fic from the bnf for, to make up for what the bnf did, but i really don't have enough confidence in my ability to write the ship to actually try that. and the author commissions art from other bnfs sometimes so they should really know better. like, would they like if the art they got from those other bnfs wasn't what they paid for? probably not.
Try FF.N; FMA had a sizable following over there so you might have more luck. (Cons: no filters and also everything else about ff.n)
but that’s the whole point *girds loins, battens hatches, types “fanfiction.net” into browser search bar*
Generally I assume, if the fandom hit its peak during the FF.N/LJ days instead of the AO3 period (let's call that 2010 moving forward; AO3 was established before then, but that's when the mass exodus from FF.N started happening ime) then the majority of the fic is going to be on FF.N Some authors have imported their stuff over to AO3, but not all, so you're more likely to find the Stuff on the older sites. (God forbid the author only posted on LJ though, then you're SOL.)
Scimitarsmile is an FMA-specific archive if you want to check there too, lots of Roy stuff when I hung around (Jesus, six years ago) but you might find some more fic that's not on ao3 or ffn
oh, that's a neat site! Didn't think fandom-specific archives were so much a thing these days. The random(?) fic quotes at the top of the front page are an interesting touch.
