Question for the thread: when you were a kid, did you have any weird spice eating habits? I would eat handfuls of garlic and onion powder, along with nutmeg, sugar, etc.
NO SPICES EVER. That I could see, anyway-- I would throw a fit over one (1) speck of black pepper, but would agree something covered in (harder to see, but sharper) white pepper was Delicious. Yellow was apparently also a flavor-- another fit was thrown over babbu's first-ever homemade macncheese because it was made with white cheeses instead of Neon Orange Cheese Derivative and it WASN'T RIGHT. (And promptly solved by stepdad taking it back to the kitchen to "remake"....... by stirring food coloring into it. A+ little me, very discerning.)
I would put cinnamon into milk, and later molasses. (Actually, the second one might make a decent drink if you have a milk frother.) I used to put turmeric into mac and cheese about 7 years ago to make it yellow, and my husband was a bit perturbed but at least I wasn't trying to feed him bluebox.
Not sure if this counts but I used to chew on candied ginger while studying in high school. Good adhd fidget but probably not... great for my teeth, in hindsight. And I did get blisters on my tongue from it pretty often.
ice cubes, frozen peas, Oxo cubes (concentrated beef stock), sometimes a pack of salt or flavouring from those salt'n'shake crisps, sugar cubes, whole spring onions, chives, raw turnip, cinnamon sticks, sometimes used to suck on cloves, and used to eat Creamola Foam (tart, fizzy acidic powder intended to be stirred into water as a drink) straight from the tub, nasturtium leaves, rose petals, honeysuckle blossoms, slices of garlic, used to fish out the lemon and lime slices from drinks and eat those. Probably harder to dissuade me from eating things than it was to get me to try something new. Anyway good foraging childhood eating, would definitely still eat like 90% of the above.
Garlic and onion powder were delightful, as was seasoning salt. I'm still overly fond of salt to the point that I've gotten different types of salt as gifts. Smoked salt is A+.
nothing ever tops granulated instant """tea""" being eaten dry out of the tub in the bus going on a school trip like the true fucking gremlin child you are Lemon flavor >>>> all other flavors
Oh man, apparently my grandma once tried to make “real” mac and cheese for the (all very young) grandkids instead of letting our parents feed us That Fake Stuff, and was quite consternated by the reaction. To this day I have negative interest in any mac and cheese that isn’t Kraft. It’s more about texture for me. I just can’t bring myself to eat sad noodles that drowned in a bog of goopy cheese slop. It’s even worse if the top is crunchy. Then it’s goopy cheese slop meatloaf substitute with distressing fish flake topping.
Incredible I didn't know someone could be so wrong :P Idk what it is but I mean the granulate doesn't even taste like lemon or lemon iced tea or whatever. it tastes like. Granulated Tea Flavor Nonsense Product and thereby like childhood :P The other flavors are just kind of off to me as a result
ahhh fair fair xP plastic strawb is however the only good milk flavor. No wait plastic banana is also good
