    • Now that Steven knows, Pearl can tell the others everything. Does that mean Steven was able to revoke the command? Or that it's negated just by the fact of his knowing?
    • "You never know what's going on! That's what I'm for!" Dude, harsh. Looking at what Sapphire says to Steven and Pearl later, it seems like she's mad at herself for not realizing the truth about Rose, and I guess she was projecting that onto Ruby somehow? In any case, it was surprising to hear her put Ruby down like that. I imagine it will come back to haunt her.
    • "...making me believe in a better future that I couldn't see because it wasn't real." So, what I'm getting here is that Sapphire/Garnet didn't see any possible futures in which thing ended happily for the rebellion, and Rose persuaded her to fight anyway. Both Rose and Sapphire had learned from experience that Earth is unpredictable and the future is malleable, and we know that Sapphire's future vision became less straightforward after she broke with Homeworld, but still, it seems pretty foolhardy of them to just ignore it. But then, what else could they do? Accept that their cause was doomed? Could they have made a better future possible if they'd significantly changed their approach?
    • The fate of the galaxy, forever altered because Rose was bored! (I think there may be some truth to this on a deeper level than just the initial motivation for her day trip to Earth.)
    • Why didn't anyone question the Pearl just hanging around while Rose was pretending to be a Quartz for the first time? (yeah okay this is a silly question)
    • We have witnessed gems being born! Seems like they just pop out fully verbal and knowing what they're supposed to do.
    • Rose, for all her faults, is adorable. Interesting to see how her personality expressed itself when she was still a loyal(ish) Diamond.
    • So Rose did not, in fact, create the zoo. That's good to know.
    • Rose bought into the Diamond Authority's line that gems can't be anything other than what they're made to be until she witnessed Garnet's fusion. But as we see in the episode where she and Greg babysit, she continued to regard gems as inferior to humans in this respect, and this probably contributed to her eventual decision to die and be reborn as a human.
    • If Rose had told Pearl to stop having her (kinda sweet, kinda tragic) fantasies, would she have actually been compelled to stop? If so, that's creepy. Being able to order her not to think things and have that actually take effect would be on a whole other level than ordering her not to say things.
    • Pearl acknowledging Rose's flaws at the end there seems like a pretty big step for her! (Anyone else notice the gesture she does while she speaks? Like she's about to grab her own throat?)

    1. so....is Pink Diamond the first Rose Quartz, or were there just no Rose Quartzes in the Kindergarten then and Pink just said "fellow Amethysts" because she was too excited to really think about the fact that she wouldn't look like an Amethyst to the others? if the latter, where are the other Rose Quartzes, will we ever see them? if the former, when did the Rose Quartzes get created, and why?
    2. I find it also interesting, still, how even though Pearl belongs to Pink, she has colors of all four Diamonds on her, unlike Blue Pearl or Yellow Pearl. some part of me wonders if Pearl was somehow meant to be a gift from the other three Diamonds TO Pink, and so Pearl has multiple colors on her because even though she'd belong to Pink in this scenario (and so be partially pink), she came, in some way, from the other three Diamonds, rather than being like, custom-ordered by Pink herself or something. maybe Pearl was even meant to be a reminder--"you're the least of the Diamonds right now, and our reminder of that is going to be that your Pearl doesn't even have just your color."
    3. I ALSO found it interesting that Pearl said "I need to be replaced immediately." is that just an our-Pearl thing, or...can Pearls literally turn themselves in if they think they're having bad thoughts, or malfunctioning somehow, or something? are they even possibly EXPECTED to do that? I mean, obviously there are probably circumstances where a Pearl might get discarded without her suggesting it, but I dunno, that line suggests something deeper to me about Pearls--like that they're meant to report when they think they should be replaced. which seems fucked up on a whole new level. that would mean they're literally expected to keep an eye on their own obsolescence and failings and in some instances, straight-up say they should be discarded and replaced with some better, newer model.

poofed and bubbled in the human zoo! in "That Will Be All," Blue and Yellow talk about how the entire line of Rose Quartzes were bubbled because one of them shattered Pink Diamond. (and the gems in those bubbles are basically two of the top faces of Pink's gem sandwiched together, making them shaped a lot like Amethyst's, not the diamond shape that we know Pink's gem actually looked like.) interestingly, Yellow wants to destroy the remaining ones, but Blue wants to keep them... because Pink created them and they're one of the few things left of hers.

"Yellow, she made them! This is all we have left of her: these gems, this place, and the earth."

i don't know if that's implying that she "made them" in the same way that other gems are made "for" a diamond, like how Peridot was made for Yellow and Jasper was made for Pink, or if diamonds can design their own gem lines? the fact that the bubbled Rose Quartz gems look like the top face of Pink's gem makes me think she had more of a direct hand, but honestly we don't know enough about gem reproduction/creation/evolution at this point. but yeah there definitely WERE other Rose Quartzes, but idk if Pink made them before or after she went incognito as one. my assumption was she had made them before, because it's not very undercover to disguise yourself as a completely unique gem.

  5. One thing I wanna say about Pearl.

I don’t think her saying “I need to be replaced immediately” means that Pearls are supposed to turn themselves in, so much as that their owners can and do replace them if they have a problem with them. For one thing, that would mean Pearls would have to tell other gems to do something (get a new Pearl). Idk if that would be allowed in Gem society.

I think it’s more her saying “I realize I’m defective, you’re probably going to replace me and you’re right, that’s what you should do.” Not that it’s her decision to have it happen.

Athol Magarac I prefer reading posts without a lot of topics.

I think it's more that Pearl realizes that she's overstepping her role and has been slipping for quite a while. She might have simply felt that there was something wrong with her, and that she should tell Pink because Pink was too blind to see what needed to be done. Most Pearls probably wouldn't feel comfortable making such a strong suggestion unless they were flawed.

I KNOW where they are NOW--I meant I want to know if we'll ever see them during flashbacks, or learn more about them and how and when they came to be, and if we'll ever see any other Rose Quartzes, because I get that Rose/Pink is....kind of probably the most important one who'd be taken for a Rose Quartz, but the absolute and distinct lack of ANY of them so far is bothering me. I want to see where they are and where they came from.

I’m guessing they were designed by Pink at some point after building the Prime Kindergarten, since that one consisted of Amethysts (and we can assume that actual Rose Quartzes were made in the image of Pearl’s OC)...I wonder if maybe the real Rose Quartzes were made on Homeworld? Like...a “trial run” of sorts for being allowed to create her own Gem type?

@chaoticArbiter ahh ok! yeah i agree it's weird that we've never seen another Rose Quartz in flashbacks, yet they confirmed that a lot of them had existed at one point. i hope we get to learn more!

i love your description of rose quartz as Pearl's OC! :D:D:D

and i love that pearl actually got to date her oc! :D:D:D

and that pink would've made a Gem in the image of something pearl made! :D:D:D like, i bet everyone would've been super scandalized by that, if they knew! a diamond, making her pearl's fantasies into a real Gem! soooo scandalous! :D:D:D

and it would show that, even though pink was super bad at showing that she thought of pearl as an equal and someone she loved and she fucked up super bad in her relationship with pearl, she really was swept off her feet by her and really did think of her as an equal! :D:D:D

like, their relationship was unhealthy, and fucked up by the giant power imbalance and by how their personalities interact with each other, but they both cared a lot for a lot for each other, and i love it! :D:D:D
i'm wondering if never seeing real rose quartzes in flashbacks was part of the crewniverse keeping the pink diamond thing secret. like, if, had we seen an actual rose quartz, it would've became too obvious to us that rose wasn't one. like, there's something about them that would be obvious to us, as fans, that wouldn't be too obvious to the characters.

and i think never seeing other rose quartzes in flashbacks helped keep up rose's mystique too, kept the feeling of her being mysterious and godlike and out of this world going, if that makes any sense.

  17. Thoughts on Amethyst

I am very happy we’re getting more of Amethyst’s thoughts on this subject. Her perspective on Rose was different from the start because her situation was... very unique. She wasn’t around for the rebellion. She didn’t come from Homeworld. She doesn’t have the same past or experiences as the other Gems, she just has their stories. And it’s understandable she’s angry at Rose for lying about who she was- she didn’t know her the way Pearl or Garnet did, and then it turns out a huge part of what she did know was a lie.

It’s interesting seeing her be so uncomfortable with Pearl and Sapphire’s behavior, but then so concerned with how Steven feels and trying to cheer him up and get him to open up about his feelings. Then again, it makes sense- Pearl and Sapphire were Crystal Gems before she was and are older, more experienced, and supposed to be more in control (but also knew Rose better and were hurt more deeply by her actions). Meanwhile, Steven is a kid and also inherited Rose’s gem and everything it stands for- he’s not only less used to this, but has perhaps the deepest emotional investment in the situation even though he never met Rose. Of course she cares about his feelings and wants to help him.

Meanwhile, she’s still hiding her own feelings beside her carefree, reckless facade. She only feels how she wants to feel.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i just love episodes that are entirely about these messy, emotional conversations about what's going on. They're so good and say so much in just 10 minutes and few other shows have episodes like that

    also so much relatable Amethyst!

also I see Pearl and Sapphire and I just remember Crying Breakfast Friends
