Okay, more thoughts now that I can revisit the episode. Spoiler Let's get this out of the way right now- VERY GAY. I love it. So happy for Ruby and Sapphire. I see I was right about Greg and Ruby comforting each other, that's good. Greg once again proves himself to be a great dad, this time to a small red child instead of the usual one. Still kinda "huh" about Greg not telling Rose about his past. I guess they decided to let the past stay in the past? But I don't like it. Ruby is a strong independent woman who don't need no woman. I'm also glad they brought up how you can't force people to be/stay together just because you think they should be, it's their relationship, it's their choice. We've seen the result of a fusion where it wasn't both partners' choice with Malachite, it was horrible for both of them (even the one who thought it was a good/useful idea). Amethyst why are you being so dramatic with your shapeshifting, this is right up there with Pearl posing and vocalizing while she pulled out that roll of police tape. "I already am lost. That's why I came out here... to find myself." Ruby you literally got this idea from a comic book, you're not that deep. I love seeing Cowboy Ruby, and her little southern accent, she's so adorable. "Ruby Rider" was easily the second best thing in this whole episode, the number one thing being the marriage proposal! As a side note- idk about how other people in this thread feel, but I like how they're keeping little bits of humor in the show even with these serious, emotional episodes. Things like "that's the first and the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me", Amethyst shapeshifting down to the size of her gem, Steven pulling the "extra small" tag off Ruby's outfit- it's good.
Spoiler She really was a cowboy! And aside from loving all the gay and the story in recent episodes... I lov horse Amethyst. I love that her mouth is always the same
two questions have been raised Spoiler One- does this mean we can get a Pearlmethyst Wedding? Two- does this mean Lapis is going to miss the wedding? :(
Spoiler: Ruby! SHE SANG SHE ACTUALLY SANG THAT WAS AWESOME I mean stylistically it was a really fab way to show her Being Her Own Gem - Garnet songs are so rare for budget reasons and getting to hear RUBY sing rather than the vocalizing we usually hear from Sapphire... Omg I love her. I love our Ruby and all the small ways she points out that she is Palm-Ruby-full-designation rather than just one of a set, which I can see she often struggles with. Gems in general have a hard time with individualism, but from what I've seen rubies seem to have it particularly hard? They're small, they're common, they rarely get chances to define themselves beyond their squad... It must be really difficult. I'm glad she got this chance to have some space, even if it means we might not hear from Garnet for a while. I'm so glad.
This fandom... I know that "That's so Gay" isn't an insult anymore but I still have to manually go through reminding myself that it's not the 90's. :P Spoiler: The Question I think it's neat that the Corundums are figuring out that a relationship doesn't mean you're joined (at the hip) every moment. After a while, healthy couples realize that they can each do their own thing alone or with other friends. Almost every time Garnet was separated, it was either forced or a fight. Now Ruby can do wacky Ruby stuff, and Sapphire can sit and think about the world. I would be so cute for Sapphire and Ruby to watch a movie, but Sapphire already knows how it ends so she just watches Ruby's reactions to every new plot twist.
Spoiler: VERY minor spoipers why is no one talking about the fact that steven canonically eats flour (which is definitely amethyst's fault like lbr)
http://madridista-again.tumblr.com/post/175589540274/steven-universe-made-of-honor-full-episode Link to Made Of Honor!
Spoiler considering sugar and flour aren’t the only ingredients in cake, I’m assuming he was being metaphorical. I hope.
Spoiler: Made of Honor Ugh, I hate it when cartoons depict situations where one character screws up enough that they should be hated forever but then suddenly all is forgiven and then they're best buds. (Insert link to Sunset Shimmer singing "The Past is Not Today" or Spoiler just the clip of her sighing about turning into a raging she-demon.)
Spoiler Her reaction at which part? She's afraid of Steven to begin with, and horrified at what looks to her like the imprisonment of all the crystal gems. Then after she sees the monsters, and Steven explains things, she feels... I think tired and not knowing how to deal with this? but not in a fighting mood. and then at the forge later she's just tired and sad and feels like the only friends she have left in the world wouldn't want her around anymore, and then after she talks with Steven again it's more like. still worried, but willing to give it a try, and after that just. still sad, and still working out her feelings, but happy to have the rest of the crystal gems with her and happy to be able to start working on some of this.
Spoiler I think she’s like...”oh, suddenly the fact that she bubbled me and lied about it makes perfect sense.” Remember, Bismuth doesn’t hold Rose on a pedestal anymore—it makes sense to me that she’s thinking about it from a different angle. EDIT: And yeah, also what @KarrinBlue said.
Spoiler Okay, fair enough. Honestly I was expecting more anger. More indignation over having been tricked by a Diamond for so long. Instead, she just screams into lava for a minute and then the anger is gone and she's just sad.
Spoiler for bismuth it's been, what, a day? Two days max since rose originally bubbled her? I'm not surprised by her lack of emotions that's a hell of a lot to go through in such a short time
Spoiler: Same spoilp fuck i laugbed way too hard at that but forgot about it! Steven! You... also eat sugar by itself? Like by the spoonful? Does this also mean that he canonically mixes flour and sugar together and eats it dry??
Spoiler Also like tbh SU puts a lot in their episodes so sometimes they skip a lot to get to the conclusion
