Spoiler: Made of Honor That's not the direction I thought this episode would go but I love it re Bismuth: I think it's like when you're mad and hate someone and learn about something else they did that fits the pattern you hate them for. It's that "oh well of course they also did this other shitty thing, that fits" It never makes you as angry as what you already hated them for bc you've almost come to expect this so it's just another thing on the pile. Rose lying the first time was a shock and betrayal. Rose having lied even more on top of that is just apparently how she was.
uh. you do realize one of the things you just referenced is literally about the magic of friendship and they've redeemed MOST of the enemies because that's what they do with the whole 'magic of friendship' thing, and that the show you are literally posting in the thread of is ALSO about forgiving people for their mistakes if they seem willing to try again, right?? Spoiler: like... Bismuth was lied to and betrayed and misunderstood the situation the first time and yeah, she fucked up, but my god, the show is literally based on the core concept of forgiving people who've messed up as long as they seem to realize that they were wrong and they're willing to try and change. and Steven seems to understand that she didn't fully grasp what was happening, and she doesn't seem inclined to try to kill him again, she seems to understand that she fucked up ("everything was different and I didn't believe it" sure seems like an admission that she screwed up in staying stuck in how things had been instead of accepting that maybe they have really changed, and that her response to it wasn't acceptable), it seems like she WANTS to try again, which means that of course the show is going to give her a second chance. the show is in large part ABOUT giving second chances. ?????
Spoiler: su spoilers bismuth was awesome this episode! :D:D:D like, i love that she does care about the crystal gems and she does care about steven and she respects steven as leader and she does see the problems with her plan, and that it's pink she's mad at! :D:D:D she has a much more nuanced understanding of the situation than her first episode and the Biscourse lead me to expect, and i'm just thrilled! :D:D:D and like, bismuth is definitely allowed to be mad but 'cause i never saw her backstory onscreen and 'cause, as soon as her first episode aired, awful Kill The Oppressors discourse started, i've always been vaguely resentful of her. but now i'm not 'cause, like, i see now that bismuth is not One Of The Antis That Biscourse. those people are just her fans and they don't speak for her!

Spoiler: kay so, Made of Honor things did anyone else notice Bismuth's outfit change cause someone else made a note of that and I checked and it's true--she lacks straps now, for one thing, but for another, her belt before looked clearly like a star to me (top point, two bottom points, and the belt strap itself was the side point), but now it's like....there's still something that LOOKS like it's part of a star on the belt, but it's not a full star and imo it's not obviously a star. the belt's star outline thing also kind of reminds me of Garnet's current normal outfit, with the like....partial star outlined in other colors? both in terms of 'partial star' and in terms of color, somewhat. which is interesting, to me. but ANYWAY, Acey and I were talking about this, and we think maybe the change from a full star on Bismuth's outfit to like, what looks like a star but you can't really see all of it, might be symbolic of like....what she went through and how the pedestal she had Rose on broke? I do think it's symbolic of SOMETHING relating to Rose and possibly even the CGs, considering how it kind of seems like a similar-ish design to Garnet's chest star. also I AM SO READY FOR PERIDOT AND BISMUTH TO INTERACT and I kind of wonder if Bismuth might make Peri a weapon or something?

Spoiler I still don't understand "if you wanna drink the cow, you gotta put a ring on it." I understand the second half is a Beyonce reference but I don't understand the first half at all.
Spoiler: I think it is maybe a reference to that sexist/shaming thing people say sometimes about "why buy the cow when you get the milk for free". mostly, I suspect this because....cow reference? and then Ruby just screwed it up a lot in her quoting it, I guess.
Spoiler she's conflating a few phrases. "why buy the cow when you get the milk for free" is a saying to... well, basically shame people into not having premarital sex... which Ruby has turned around. "putting a ring on it" was a common phrase long before Beyonce, but Bey definitely popularized that specific phrasing. edit: @chaoticArbiter JINX! :D
