Spoiler: I had feels during the second half I just wanted them to get Blue knocked down enough so that she would listen. Then I got upset because it wasn't happening and who cares how long the battle goes on because they're losing. I don't know what that mental realm thing was, but at least they're not fighting anymore.
Spoiler: I JUST WATCHED REUNITED AND I'M CRYING SO MUCH OH MY G O D THAT WAS GOOD AND THERE WERE SO MANY FEELINGS AND I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS AND WHEN WILL THE NEXT EPISODES COME OUT AND ALSO WILL THE PEARLS SHOW UP ON EARTH NOW AND WHAT WILL BLUE AND YELLOW DIAMOND THINK OF THE WHOLE SITUATION AND WILL THEY FIX CENTI OR ARE THEY GOING TO NEED WHITE BECAUSE SHE WAS INVOLVED IN THE CORRUPTION, OR WILL IT BE THE TWO OF THEM AND STEVEN WHO ARE CAPABLE OF FIXING IT, IS STEVEN GOING TO BE CAPABLE OF FIXING WHATEVER IT IS WHITE CONTRIBUTED TO THE CORRUPTION, ALSO ARE WE FINALLY GOING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT PINK FROM THEIR PERSPECTIVE, WILL BISMUTH MAKE CONNIE A NEW SWORD, BISMUTH LIKES PERIDOT AND I'M SO HAPPY AND LAPIS IS BACK okay screm over I'm just so excited and having so many feelings and I have a lot of questions and I wonder, if Steven's Diamond powers will be able to undo what White did, if that would mean the two of them operate in....similar circles of power? like, if they're both kind of life-connected somehow? that would be kind of interesting, them being of the same type of power but seemingly having totally different outlooks (I mean, I'm assuming, but....it seems like they would at this point). also, are we finally gonna see White Diamond? is she the REAL final boss? and I really hope we see Yellow Pearl and Blue Pearl now, like, bring them into this all, let them mingle with our Pearl please, I want to see a LOT of things and quite a few involve Blue Pearl and Yellow Pearl. also, are we finally gonna get a new opening?? we have to, right? I mean, we've got at LEAST three new CGs--well I guess technically Bismuth isn't NEW-new, so like, more like two new and one returning to the cause--but that totally warrants a new opening, right?? PLEASE????? still holding out hope for a new Peri outfit with stars. maybe Bismuth makes her limb extenders and they've got STARS on them this time. but also like, Peri and Lapis did both just get poofed--maybe Peri will come back with the symbolic star now. I'm so glad Bismuth loves Peridot. I mean I couldn't believe she wouldn't. but I'm so glad she does. also Lapis is amazing. and I kind of love "I'VE FELT WORSE, SO SUCK IT" like. sometimes your depression and PTSD are your strength while fighting a Diamond who tries to make you feel awful, I guess?? god I love Lapis I WANT NEW FUSIONS. I WANT A FUSION WITH BISMUTH. and I really hope we'll see the temple fusion someday. also Steven's response makes so much sense for him and I'm so glad it worked out. I'm so proud of him. I'm so proud of his powers and how he uses them and who he is as a person and everything he did in this episode. and I loved Garnet's formal attire but I really want to know if she's going to get a new permanent look. also it was really neat getting to hear Yellow's thoughts a bit more--she felt like Pink's demise was her fault for not pushing back harder on not giving Pink a colony, which is...interesting. I mean, Blue also felt it was her fault, but her thing seemed to be more "I should've listened more, should've taken this rebellion more seriously, it's my fault that I told Pink to just keep going and everything would be fine and then they killed her"--Yellow's was more "I should've pushed back more to begin with. it is our fault we gave Pink a colony and she couldn't handle it." it's like she's not blaming herself for not taking the rebellion seriously enough but rather somehow overestimating Pink and this causing her death. I mean, not that I think they're right on either count, considering everything....but it was interesting. also, I found it further interesting that....the two Diamonds had their SHIPS FALL ON THEM and they didn't poof. nothing. zero harm. it makes me wonder if like, maybe really the only thing that could poof one of them would be like, another Diamond. like, the two of them are just that strong and enormous that whatever it would take to poof them, the CGs never could've brought it. and now that we know Pink wasn't really ever shattered, I do have to go back to wondering if a Diamond can actually even be shattered--that was a theory for a while, that it was literally impossible to shatter a Diamond, and I find myself wondering if that's true. if White does end up being the real final boss, the Diamonds being like, next-to-impossible or straight-up impossible to shatter and REALLY hard to poof against their will would certainly make things more interesting. ....do you think Yellow's power of poofing Gems would work on her fellow Diamonds? I wonder. just. you know. in case White DOES end up being the final-final boss. I am so ready and not ready for the next episodes and WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR THEM SCREAMS can't believe everyone's been right this whole time about mom being endgame. ANYWAY THIS WAS SO GOOD AND I'M SO PROUD OF EVERYONE
Spoiler: NEW ep so I just realized something, maybe ...I think Stevens powers in the dreamscape, where he goes Full Pink were hinted at waaaay back in ocean gem, when he managed to dissolve lapis' water doubles. That was never really explained but I think it might have been now!
Spoiler Hmm. You know, I did kinda get spoiled re: Lapis and the Diamonds, but that's actually precisely what I expected from the title. It's the Crewniverse, after all. I suspect they won't be able to undo the corruption without White, which is probably going to get interesting. Especially given that Blue and Yellow's ships just got blown up, so they're currently stuck on Earth. I suspect something could end up happening with Pink's ship, if it is indeed the thing we've seen in I think one of the Lion episodes?
Spoiler: hm hey how do y'all think the Off-Colors are going to feel/respond if...they show up to Earth....and the Diamonds are there.
Spoiler One thing I really liked was how badass the diamonds were. As leaders of the Gem Empire, I don’t believe they were made to fight per se. but they’re pretty good at it. Blue opens with her empathic powers at it overwhelms everyone but Connie, who isn’t a gem, Garnet, who is two gems, and Lapis, who has suffered as much as Blue. And she did it in seconds. When that failed, she brought out a laser array. She blocked and broke Connie’s Sword with her bare hand. It took all of the gems and a barn to knock her over. And then Yellow joins the fight. “Hey, Yellow Clod! Remember me!?” “...No.” ZAP. And then she charges in and stomps Steven’s giant shield, and takes out Lapis- the single most offensively powerful gem- as easily as she did Peridot. Contacting them mentally was the only way Steven could’ve ended the fight without losing completely. They couldn’t win a straight up fight.
Spoiler That could kinda be awesome, depending on the timing. Diamonds: We're not going to do anything about you, go hang out with the crystal gems while we retreat to our... ugh, Bismuth, did you really have to use Perido's design for our hovel?

oh my god the episode right after future boy zoltron is one of my favorites ever I hope you enjoy catching up! Season 5 has been so fucking good.
Spoiler: waaaaiiitaminute was Rose's sword being shattered some symbolism for the Crystal Gems not having to rely on her anymore?
Spoiler thats certainly possible, but it could also be symbolic of “using violence to solve this problem won’t work.” The diamonds are overwhelmingly powerful, and Rose’s Sword- the most symbolic weapon the crystal gems had- was as ineffective as anything else.
Spoiler I was actually thinking about Rose's sword earlier. I was trying to look up Bismuth's quote about how it could pop a form easily, but never hurt the actual gem. I got distracted by the transcript of an episode I never saw. (Rose Scabbard) It seems like the sword has been shattered before. Anyway, it was kinda sad that Blue didn't realize the significance. I mean, maybe she knew that it was Rose's sword, but not that it couldn't shatter gems.
I'm overdue for a full rewatch now to catch all the foreshadowing and such so I'll liveblog some of it here I think Spoiler "We're not the Crystal Gems without you" given that Steven doesn't have powers yet and the Crystal Gems were around long before Steven, this line reads as "we're not the Crystal Gems without Rose/Rose's gem" and that's a painful line to drop right in the first episode "If it belonged to my mom, I bet my dad knows where it is!" Steven's right in this case but oh boy he has no idea how much Greg doesn't know re:Rose throwback Thursday to when our first impression of Greg was clueless, deadbeat dad instead of chillest human ever. "You gotta know where [the Light Cannon] is! Like a cave dungeon..." well he's not wrong. iirc there were a bunch of Light Cannons in the cave armory When Steven's falling through the temple for the first time, he briefly passes through Rose's room. God, I forgot how freaked out Greg was by magic stuff early on. The cat fingers episode is still somehow arguably the darkest episode of this show. y'know, counting the war and everything. the piano music during the big car wash scene is just...wtf crewniverse we still don't really know why Pink made Lion do we? just that he was guarding the corrupted Desert Glass which im guessing was a terraforming gem like Lapis but with sand instead of water. So knowing that Garnet was definitely the first different gem fusion, and Rainbow Quartz the second, I want to see the first time Opal and the others formed. It's interesting that they went from a full-time fusion made from love to "We only form Opal when its absolutely necessary" I'm guessing Rose had something to do with Opal forming hence why Garnet sends Steven along. Theory: Pink's life powers were something she only learned on Earth. She was pretty restricted on Homeworld for a diamond and they wouldn't have had a use for plant powers there anyways. So stuff like the wild moss was her experimenting with new powers.
More liveblogging Spoiler Of course the gem who was always given what she wanted by her subordinate but told no by her equals makes a room that gives you whatever you want. "And I want to inspire you. I want to be your rock and when I talk it lights a fire in you." you mean like how you did to Pink during that Earth date, Pearl? Sugilite's just such an interesting fusion to me. She's got Garnet's refusal to split up but none of the teamwork or impulse control. Plus the idea that a fusion can do things that none of the components would actually want. it's almost hilarious how simplified Pearl's explanation of the Gem War in On the Run is also still such a BPD!Amethyst episode Ok so definitely gem tech has advanced since the war. Really it's amazing that the new gem tech is as compatible with the old as it is. Then again, when you're working across planets throughout the galaxy and with projects that take thousands of years to produce results, backwards compatibility probably gets super important. Anyways, I wonder if Homeworld has changed culturally since the war. "I was your mother's sole confidant. For the words she could share with no one else, I was there to listen!" "Why'd she keep so many secrets?" "She had to Stevan! Its the mark of a great leader, knowing just what to keep hidden from everyone you're supposed to protect. Everyone except me" No wonder Pearl was so confident in this statement. She was the only one who knew who Rose truly was and would always be the only one. "Rose kept many things secret. Even from us." "But not from me!" the entirety of Rose's Scabbard hurts now that we know just why Pearl was so shaken by Lion given how single minded Ruby and Sapphire are about finding each other even when Steven's right there, I wonder just how long it'd been since they'd been unfused. everything about Malachite is just fucked up from the first second. also season 1 is really long and im super glad Steven character develops pretty quick;y bc oh my god does early Steven grate on my nerves. he's so loud and childish all the time and yes he's a child and written very well as such but i just don't really like kids. the first time I watched this show I was barely holding on for the gems and im glad they introduced Opal and fusion when they did bc that was interesting enough to keep me watching. The first half of s1 of SU is kinda like Act 1 of Homestuck like that.
